I have to say, all the hate in these comments is hilarious. All these snobby amp guys are ridiculous. spending 3 granf on a decent amp isnt necessary. Its just not. Ive played on a lot of amps. I have the 50 watt head. I crank the gain(with a medium gain pickup) with all my dirt pedals + eq out front and time based effects in the effects loop. It takes each pedal astonishingly well. it's honestly blown away my expectations as far as it sounds. Well see how it holds up over time.

Just for the record. Pickups have absolutely nothing to do with gain. So saying you are using a medium gain pickup let's everybody know you have more to learn when it comes to guitar gear.
@Torquemonster440
@Torquemonster440 11 ай бұрын
Your pickup output or... "gain" has everything to do with how your overall sound is produced. There are many varieties of pickups with varying levels of output... "gain" which is just another term for volume. Educate yourself before admonishing others in true internet Troll fashion.
@sebastiandunbar8766
@sebastiandunbar8766 11 ай бұрын
Actually the pick up output is more how it’s going to react with the gain . So you’re also wrong . So you might want to take your own advice . The gain on the amp remains the same regardless of the pick up . Its all how it interacts with each other
@Torquemonster440
@Torquemonster440 11 ай бұрын
@@sebastiandunbar8766 Yes, I agree. You have articulated my point better than I could. I just wanted to illustrate that the phrase "pickups have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with gain" is incorrect. When in actuality it comes down to " it's all how it interacts with eachother". Your last quote illustrates that pickups do indeed effect gain.

I got one of these, and a 2x12 slant origin cab. I'm quite happy with it, especially at the price. It does feel a little cheap in the materials(knobs/switches, handle, etc) but they look great and work well. It took me a while to find some pleasant tones, other than clean. The low setting is still quite loud too. I also have a Marshall Custom shop JCM-1 watt mini stack, and it will give a much nicer sound at almost any setting but lacks clean headroom at louder than bedroom levels. It took me a while to even realize it had the pull out gain knob. I also turn the treble to 1-2, and that helps alot.

These more recent amps are ending up on the benches of electrical engineers more and more, not happy about PCB MOUNTED VALVES AND POTS which are soldered to the PCB board in much the same way as the Marshall MG amps, my 79 Marshall mk 2 master vol 2 x12 combos are still gigging to this day with only the occasional change of valves and no problems throughout, these more recent Marshall amps are put together in as cheaper way that they can make them, dont look for longevity as you may need to start paying out for electrical engineers fees.

It’s a great amp. I have a 20 myself and I’m really happy with the tone I get out of it. It has a fantastic clean Marshall sound and takes pedals REALLY well. If I relied on amp distortion then I would probably be disappointed, but I don’t and pedals seem to really sing with the amp.

Hmmm. No. Well. Prefer my amp to be clean. So I usually decided on the clean tone. But I’ve always been a pedal player. I like a clean pedal platform amp set to just before the edge of break up and I go from there. Similar to how Gilmour does things. I grew up with Fender amps and I’ve never been a fan of their amp distortion so that probably has something to do with it. I tend to cover a lot of sonic ground and need a lot of options for distortion. So it works for me.

And if you use an ab box you can run into Marshall and and uad and then use the foot switch to run it like a two channel or two amp system - very cool - combo size also a great gigger … nice demo Bro and just had a quick Listen to your single 😉

Like how you get differences in sound from the power choices so it gives more flexibility in recording when you want a slightly different response. The Master is pre PI so I don't see how you could have it be "the only knob you touch" as it radically can affect your saturation when you turn it up.

The fact that you are happy with this amp is great and all that really matters. I have however, being an old sod, have grown up with JTM45 and 100watt Plexi amps. There is little comparison honestly. I purchased one of these and found it one dimensional in terms of how one ideally uses a Marshall in the old school sense. Meaning major adjustment to volume and tone done from the guitar to dynamically arrive a palette of sounds. Perhaps ultimately the point is stage conditions being what they are today old school is next to impossible. I tried working with this extensively to get a Plexi like sound and behavior and resorted to a Kemper with legit sounding JTM45 profiles. Great that it works for you and your enthusiasm is really all that matters

this amp behaves NOTHING like my JTM45 but it def has its place. are you not playing w your knobs on your gtr anyway tho? or do you just set it and forget it? 10 or nothing? thats also very cool and fun to do, but as far as delivering classic marshall sounds, i feel the origin 20 gets much closer than the kemper. roll that treble knob OFF and use the tilt knob to dial in the angus tone!!!!! \m/ \m/
@slimturnpike
@slimturnpike Жыл бұрын
I will respectfully disagree. I've been playing since the late 60s, and have owned a couple of 1959 Superleads as well as a JTM45 combo. The Origin gets very close to my ears, for a lot less money and weight. The 20C is my main gigging amp now. Nothing else comes this close other than the originals and I sold them long ago in favor of smaller amps.
@michaelshields6585
@michaelshields6585 Жыл бұрын
@@jonwanrocks - actually my main beef with the Origin is precisely the inability to roll off the volume and tone on a Les Paul and achieve the same behaviour as a JTM45. I can by contrast accomplish that with a Kemper. I can run my HW Bluesbreaker and the Kemper side by side and get remarkably close. In the case of the Origin 20C I have even replaced the speaker with a 12” and while I can achieve reasonably good tone with the amp, it is not dynamic in the same way as the JTM45.

@@slimturnpike - Great that you are happy with it. Obviously it’s a much more convenient choice if it works for you. While I am ok with it to a limited extent, I can’t compare it to my Bluesbreaker. Inspite of it being much heavier and a pain to move around comparatively, I would still use it with a Fryette to manage the volume as the clean headroom and dynamic range is noticeably far better. Again that you are happy with the 20C and are able to get what you need out of it is great.

Glad you're happy. It's ok. It's not all that. You will be even more happy when you play a DSL-20. Or a Plexi. Or a JCM-800. Side by side there's no comparison. The build quality alone makes them better. Although it's a great "beater" for the road to save wear and tear on prized/more expensive amps or if you are the player, the roadie, the driver, family man, etc., not making 6 or 7 figures a year and can't justify a more costly amp like many of us. Used to be a strictly Plexi guy but the DSL's cover that and all the way to JTM800 & 900 tones. The most versatile I think. The DSL-40 combo is the de facto rock workhorse for a club musician imho. I do favor a 20watt DSL head and 1x12" or two 1x12" orange cabs depending on venue size.

I found it to have a fairly nice clean tone but the drive channels were extremely lacking, terrible gain stage and The effects loop on this head also produced a terrible tone, unlike any of the other Marshall’s I own.

Wait til you have to put it in the shop for repairs. All modern Marshalls are made poorly just like modern Fenders. Take it from an amp tech.

My amp tech fixes these with ease and reasonable You probably just work on hand wired stuff Agreed the build quality is for assembly speed and profit margin But average 70's jmp and the like are approaching 3500.00 And lose extensive value with replacement tranny's these are pretty consistent tonewise and I am quite positive in a blind test you could not tell which amp is original vintage or the 50 origin Quite positive!!

@@stevencancel1727 I played through an Origin recently and it actually sounded awful. I couldn’t get a good tone out of it. Even the guys at Guitar Center commented that it sounded like shit.

@@Earlvis that is not good, not sure what the problem was, maybe it's just not for you I have had excellent results, with both my favorite boost pedal and vintage speakers, it's an absolute winner that origin 50!!

No, it's not. But it's a damn good damn and for the price, it really is hard to beat. I was torn between this and the DSL, but the DSL doesn't do a clean or blues tone as well as the Origin.

The origin is an awful amp. I got rid of it. Nothing like a plexi. Thin harsh, horrible . The sv20 h is a totally different kettle of fish.

It's not meant to sound like a plexi. It's designed to sound like earlier circuits, hence the name. Much better cleans than the 1959 Superlead I owned and many times more giggable.
