Why are so many people say this sounds bad, this is how a plexi sounds without a band behind it, that’s why it cuts through and sounds like a beautiful layer of high mids when in the mix. It’s not about playing solo, good solo sounds are crap in a mix.

pickledblues ...I couldn't agree more! I've owned a 71 super lead, a 78 JMP 2203 and a Bray modded JTM45 reissue, and my Origin 50 gets classic old school Marshall tones....high gain...nope. But the 50 is a great platform for pedals.

Great demo of the Origin. I took a chance on the Origin 50C. It exceeded my expectations, so I also have the Origin 50H full stack (Origin 4x12 cabs). It can get the JTM 45/100 and the Plex Super Lead 100 tones I want, for a great price. I usually just go straight into the amp or use a GEQ pedal as a boost
@vin9976 Жыл бұрын
How’s that 50combo still doing? I was about to buy a used one and perhaps mod with a Headfirst style setup. Are you getting those legit Hendrix cleans and also the gnarly organic breakup distortion too? That’s a pretty high bar for stock Origin!
@zoomzoom3950 Жыл бұрын
@@vin9976 I still dig the Origin 50C; I get Hendrix tones that sound good to me; I have a Hendrix patch in my HX Effects with Fuzz Face, Vox Wah, Octavia, Univibe and reverse delay. Start with the Crunch 2 settings on the Marshall website's Origin 50H page sound examples; it's more SRV but you can adjust from there. I mostly go guitar into Origin, sometimes use a Source Audio EQ2 for a lead boost/shaping. Early to mid-70s rock/hard rock sounds (Humble Pie, Kiss, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, AC/DC, BTO,...) Cheers!
@vin9976 Жыл бұрын
@@zoomzoom3950 I just played the 50w Combo. Damn it sounds pretty good even with that odd light-weight speaker in there! Worked great for distorted home tunes on the 5w setting and was badass cranked at 50w! Those tubes just take over. So...how much am I missing out by using the combo tone wise? (love it's size and weight!!). I can't go full 4x12 but maybe I could find a used 2x12 cab but its gets expensive vs just the combo on a steal used. How much am I missing tone wise by skipping the 2x12 you think?
@zoomzoom3950 Жыл бұрын
@@vin9976 I like the combo, not sure what you'd be missing with it besides a wider sound dispersion of larger cabs with more speakers. I use the combo more than the full stack, in fact I'm using the Origin 2 x 4x12 cabs with my JVM410H. Unlike a few of the Studio series combos, the Origin 50C has a 12" speaker that sounds good, loud and compact. You can also run external cabs with the Origin 50C if you wanted more, e.g., add a 1x12 extension cab, there's your 2x12 rig?
@vin9976 Жыл бұрын
Good to hear! That’s high praise for that little combo. I was really surprised by how decent that stock speaker was lol. Are you running it still or did you swap for something else? Also, did you ever compare a 20h to the 50? I’m typically not a fan of the little 20w transformers but I’ve never tested them side by side
@jorgiewtf5 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, great video! I was hoping you could do a comparison between the new Studio Vintage and these awesome Origins. And please make a 20 watt to 20 watt comparison. The few I’ve found always compare a 50 watt to a 20. That’s a huge difference. Thank you and cheers!

I went with the DSL100HR a few months ago and I'm so glad I did. The origin would be fun to play around on but I want, scratch that, NEED versatility. Still glad they made the origin so there's a 50w classic style amp on the market but so far I don't think I'll own one. They do sound good at what they are going for so maybe if I ever find one at a good price.

DSL is a fizzmonster.
@michaelinglis85166 жыл бұрын
robritoboy Have you owned a 100HR model? Obviously not as that's the last thing anyone would say after trying it. Did you even own the 100H or are you just regurgitating what you've heard? The whole idea behind the HR is a voicing/eq improvement which most people agree was a success. That or your using shit pedals or shit power. Even with my passive single coils distorted the "fizz" is hardly there. Youd have to be playing it all alone in a small room to notice. The 100HR is for real musicians that gig or at least jam in live situations. Anyways your entitled to your opinion but I'm pretty certain your full of shit. If your talking about a 100H you'd have more legitimacy but we weren't talking about a 100H now were we? Even if we were I guess you know more than Joe Bonnamesa about how to get good tone from an amp? Now.....if you meant "fizzmonster" in a good way.....im not following?
@robritoboy6 жыл бұрын
I had a DSL40C, I absolutely hated it. I tried every mod in the book, but just couldn't get rid of that Fizz. I agree it reduced when played very loud, and cabs help, but it was always there. I almost became obsessive about it in the end. I sold it about 2 weeks back, going to buy an Origin. You will be using a Cab, so will be different for you, but I just couldn't stand it any longer. Not sure I agree with your statement the voicing was a success. The new DSL40CR has gone a long way to precisely reduce that Fizz (even though it's still there). There are many, many pages of forums discussing and trying to get around this.
@michaelinglis85166 жыл бұрын
robritoboy Combos are never going to sound as good, it's well known that the speakers provided sound like shit. But I'm mainly talking about the 100HR anyways with two orange ppc112's (v30's real ones not the marshall imitations). Every single peice of your signal chain effects tone so I can be reasonable enough to say I'm sure some setups are not good with dsl's. But I never buy combos, it's a moneygrab option. They give you a dirt cheap speaker that is a pain in the ass to change out compared to just switching cabs and charge way to much more for it compared to the head. It's like buying a Lamborghini and having the dealer put 7 eleven plastic rims on it that are permenently attached. Just my opinion. Not just any speaker will please everyone, I think they should be selected on a personal level. Anyways point is I respect that you found it fizzy but there's a reason lots of people love them other than a great price tag. I know several guys with amps worth 5x what DSL is bit they all got excited when the HR came out enough so to buy their own.
@robritoboy6 жыл бұрын
I changed speakers a few times, but the fizz was always there, and to my ears it's still in the new DSL/Rs. Each to their own, not everyone likes the same thing. I'm sure you love your setup, I actually love my Fender Princeton Reverb, but I'm trying to find a good classic Marshall sound that I like. But the DSL was not for me. I was thinking of replacing with a JVM instead, but now the Origins are out, I'm going to try some out in person and go from there. Ideally I'd like one of everything. You have to love your sound and want to play it. The DSL wasn't that for me. As I said that fizz was almost obsessive for me in the end, I couldn't stand it. It probably sounds derogatory to you, but it's the way I hear it. Glad you love your sound, it's okay to love your own baby.

Yet another load of high gain rubbish recorded on a potato. I have the Origin 20 with an Orange PPC112. It sounds nothing like this. Keep gain low, push the power amp and believe me, this is amp is a beauty. Avoid combo’s, looks like Marshall spent as much time choosing the speaker as they did on their in-house demo’s of the Origin series. Very confused. I have owned several Marshalls over the years and the Origin 20 through a decent weighty cab sounds the best to me for AC/DC type tone. Agreed, if you want more gain and two channels in a Marshall, the DSL is the one for you.
