I am really digging the mini plexi amp a lot aka Studio vintage- since I already have a monster high gain amp for modern metal in my Peavey 6505, this would be a good counterbalance I think for me to play classic rock, blues and old school metal (with a boost/gain pedal).
@JedNadin3 жыл бұрын
3:28 1987x 6:56 SV20 Both playing the same riff, pushed with the YJM Fender OD. It’s a VERY similar tone. But the extra watts definitely gives more bottom end and thump. The low A (A flat) note is more present and dynamic as he plays it between the chord stabs
@GutyRodrigues4 жыл бұрын
More wattage = more low end and less mid range. I like 100w amps because of the low end and the headroom for effects live, 50w sounds amazing for leads. 20w is good for recording, but sounds so tiny, I still prefer de 50w/100w amps.

I'm thinking this way....The 1987x will always be better than the SV20 when cranked to nearly full volume. However, NO-ONE in a gigging situation is running a 1987 on 10 without attenuation, and most are running them on about 4, with a dirt pedal to add the sustain and gain that you'd have if you could crank it. So.....if the SV20 can give you a decent version of even an attentuated 1987x, then it's the no-brainer? UNLESS...the 20w isn't enough backline to be heard over a John Bonham style drummer..

My SV20 head + cab (1x12) and Boss Tube Amp Expander arrived yesterday. Tried it out today but now they're going back in their boxes until Christmas. I only played it fairly quietly, so I wasn't really getting the full effect. The amp sounded good, but I could tell the speaker was begging for more volume. Looking forward to giving it a proper workout. Should also be fun to try out the cab simulation and some IRs for silent practise/recording.

@napalmhardcore4 жыл бұрын
@@rezakhan8290 and @sako Sorry I haven't updated, I've been rather busy recently. I have had a little time to play it purely as an attenuator (plus using the onboard reverb) and in that role it performs really well (though I feel the speaker is begging for more volume than I can give it at home). I haven't had a chance to hook it up to a computer and experiment with IRs, but I'll try to remember to update once I've had more time with it. Happy new year.

They sound 99% the same! The difference between the 100 Watt 1959 SLP and the 50 Watt 1987x is in the power section. Besides the wattage there is a difference in the rectification section, the current coming from the power transformer is half rectified in the 1987x giving a distinct sound with a little more "sag" compared to the 1959 SLP. But surely the 20 watt version has the plexi sound!

@MarkKiddGuitar For a start the 'Rich mod' is just a PPIMV, and I've tried pretty much every option, the PPIMV is amongst the worst as it interrupts the global negative feedback loop which means it sounds anemic unless the volume reduction is very slight. PEC pots are a false economy as well, being sealed they are un-serviceable. Great in the desert, awful in pretty much any other application. There are matched dual gang pots from Bourns and others that are much longer lasting. Try slaving an amp with a PPIMV (cranked) and compare it to without slaving and with the PPIMV turned down. The difference is night and day. A PPIMV also doesn't allow for clean use of effects like delay and reverb whilst slaving (or JCM800 type masters) do.

Hot playing, wax melted out of pickups......................Seriously though, great playing. As for which I prefer, I figure if your going to be a bear, be a Grizzly (go big). The 50W 1987x offers a little more headroom over the smaller version, of which most people (myself included) can't/won't be able to take advantage of. Amplifiers like this are an expensive investment, especially when you add cost of a speaker enclosure. However, for the lower price, yeah this makes sense for a person who doesn't want or can't spend the extra cash for the bigger more powerful 1987x. I would like to add, when your in a music store that has amplifiers piled up to the roof it is really startling when you get one of these home and see how big they are! Either amp with the speaker enclosure it's like putting a washing machine or oven in a room. For married men, these amplifiers don't really match any carpeting or furniture, so there is that part of the equation to consider (I'm just saying). I have a 1987x and unless I''m a good 20 feet away (6.096 Meters) most anything will take off with feedback when using an Overdrive. Playing a Marshall dimed is not for the faint of heart, thank you for enduring this punishment for our enlightenment/entertainment. I would like to also add, I've heard people praise the quiet operation of humbucking pickups for decades but never though the minor hum of single coil pickups was an issue or a problem. It wasn't until I purchased a proper Marshall and started playing it loud, really, really loud that it became painfully apparent why humbucker pickups are such a big deal. Yeah, the noise of single coil pickups can get crazy out of control. Great video, again thank you. BTW, my Son gave me a set of Erasers earplugs (www.earasers.net/) for Christmas this year, I highly recommend them.

Dude. This is not a good demo. Nobody cares about your chops. Demo the amp.
