It's worth noting that as good as these amps are they are still very loud so need attenuating for home use (for most people that is) and incidentally Angus and Malcolm had master volumes put into their 100 watt plexi heads, which effectively turned them into JMP Master volume and JCM800 2203 models 😜 Great tone and video! 🤟🏻🎸😎

Well to be fair, the original studio recordings were lower gain than in the video, but Angus often used similar to this gain playing live. My stock 71 1987 does Angus 75-80 studio tone by about 5 on the Volume
@yearginclarke3 ай бұрын
@@zachariahwade8482 Yeah the 70's albums were pretty low gain. But they definitely have that distinctive Marshall midrange bark, which I think is one of the most important parts of that tone, not just the gain/overdrive aspect. Those plexi amps are voiced to sound like that. And of course the Young brothers really knew how to get the most out that sound. When I first played a plexi I was astounded how crunchy and perfect it sounded for AC/DC style chords, yet it was only cranked up to 3.5 to 4. It's because of that midrange/treble response that's voiced brilliantly with those amps. If you try to emulate that with a lesser quality amp on a low gain setting, it simply won't come across the same way.

It all depends on what AC/DC tone you want. High Voltage was very clean, Let there be rock was much more distorted etc. Also do you want the album tone or one of their live tones? There isn’t one “AC/DC tone”. Some of them are very clean and some are quite distorted. This video was just an all rounder live tone. More distorted than the albums but pretty close to a live tone. This was also with the guitar volume on 10 the whole time. If you back the guitar volume down to 7 (like angus does live) for the rhythm playing it would be closer.
@HerrSchnabelewopski4 жыл бұрын
@@jamesseyed You are right, there is not one AC/DC tone. Try playing Live Wire first and then Walk All Over You. Completely different tones. The live tones from Doninigton etc. are also completely different. I think if you just play a Marshall without to much distortion, play with your volume knob and with some groove. Then you'd get a good AC/DC tone, I think.

@jamesseyed4 жыл бұрын
If you wanted an AC/DC album rhythm tone (which is a lot cleaner than their live tone) setting the volume around 5-7 would probably be the sweet spot. This clip is more of an all rounder live tone. If you are plugging straight into the amp (no boosts) you need the volume up higher to get that sustain. Having the volume up higher also bypasses the bright cap more which fattens up the sound.

I know I typically play my amps around 70-80 measuring db from about 12 feet away So I wonder if I could get this typa tone at that same level essentially . The burgera is an attenuator I’m assuming?
