I got a little carried away with this one and just sort of jammed out for a while, but hopefully I was able to show that you can do Hendrix tones very easily with this amp.
I used the SV20H at 16 ohms with the stock EL34s this time to give it more headroom. Run into the Fryette Power Station and for the first time in my life I used an impulse response, specifically the #getgooddrums zilla edition. Also used the Sunset Sound Studio Reverb from IK Multimedia for some slight reverb.
Pedals were the
#Vox V847A
#Dunlop Octavio and Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face
#Fulltone Deja-Vibe Mini
Backing track was stolen from • Jimi Hendrix- Machine ...

@@anthonyjwilkerson Ok I need advice. Im buying an amp at the end of the month. Would you recommend the SV20H for Hendrix tones and can I play it at bedroom levels ? Does is require an attenuator and how does this amp compare to the PRS HDRX 20 (Hendrix inspired amp) ? Wish me luck. Im getting back into by guitar playing. Hopefully I will be as good as you !
@anthonyjwilkerson
@anthonyjwilkerson 9 ай бұрын
@user-jz8fv8du8p you definitely need an attenuator. It's very loud. This is a great amp for Hendrix tones but personally if you want something that will do Hendrix tones and be more affordable and easier to control the volume on, the Vox AC15C1 is the answer. You could buy two of them for the price of this amp.
@anthonyjwilkerson
@anthonyjwilkerson 9 ай бұрын
@user-jz8fv8du8p also the HDRX isn't worth the money in my opinion. Honestly would go with the Vox. I'll do a demo of one of those soon, but if you check my Tru-Fi demo on my channel that's with a Vox. If money is not an object obviously the SV20 and the Fryette Powerstation.

@anthonyjwilkerson
@anthonyjwilkerson 10 ай бұрын
So in this case and for most of this era of Hendrix I turn the fuzz on just when you hear it basically. Basically just the lead work. It's just the nature of this particular type of fuzz, which is the Band Of Gypsys Fuzz Face. When I use a regular Fuzz Face for the older Hendrix material I will sometimes leave it on with the guitar volume down. As for how I learned to play like this, I'm not really sure. I kind of felt like I didn't really play that well but people seem to really dig it. I would say my main "Jimi" inspirations would be Randy Hansen, a KZbinr called The Vibratory, Robin Trower, Eric Gales, and Uli Jon Roth. I appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment.

Hi, congrats on your great tone! I have a SV20 and a Deja Vibe Mini but cannot get any closer of that wobble. Did you have changed some of the sets in the internal trimpots of the fulltone deja vibe or its the standard settings and just tweaking the knobs?

I haven't changed the trim pots at all. Do you have a few pedals after the vibe?
@fmatzembacher
@fmatzembacher 6 ай бұрын
@@anthonyjwilkerson yes, my signal chain is guitar > vibe > fuzz > delay > amp
@anthonyjwilkerson
@anthonyjwilkerson 6 ай бұрын
@fmatzembacher so the secret to the Jimi thing is that he always used fuzz before the vibe. Vibe was the last thing in his chain. My vibe loses a lot of that swirl if there are too many tone sucking pedals behind it. So let me explain a bit further. If you run the Vibe>Distortion/Fuzz typically that's always gonna sound good, it's when you turn the distortion off that you run in to the seeming "lack of vibe". I've done a lot of experimenting with this. So my long winded suggestion is either minimize the pedals and run it the Jimi way, last, or get a good buffer to stick at the end of your chain and it will help give that swirl back. If you have like a boss pedal laying around stick it at the end of your chain just to use as a buffer and see if that helps. Sometimes tone can be like describing a color. Not as easy as you think lol
@fmatzembacher
@fmatzembacher 6 ай бұрын
@@anthonyjwilkerson Tks so much. I do have a boss pedal (BD-2) after the vibe so that’s probably what’s making the swirl gonna away. I’ll try your suggestion and see the difference. Cheers!
@anthonyjwilkerson
@anthonyjwilkerson 6 ай бұрын
@fmatzembacher actually that should help it since it's buffered. I know when I comes to my vibe, it was a lot more subtle than I originally thought it would be. Try setting the rate a bit higher. Also I always set the volume at 3 o clock and the intensity at max

I think all the controls were on 3 O' Clock except the high treble volume which was on 9 O' Clock. Jumper the channels from High 2 to Low 1 and plug into High 1. Or do the reverse of that if you want a little bit more low end.

Sounds incredible! Would love to know if you have any experience with some of the cheaper attenuators out there. I'm seriously tempted to get an sv20h but cant justify it when the fryette power station more than doubles the total...
@anthonyjwilkerson
@anthonyjwilkerson Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Sorry I haven’t ever really used anything else. I tried a passive attenuator in the loop but it just doesn’t work correctly. The Fryette is the only thing I’ve found that really does the job for this kind of amp. It’s hard to justify but when you think about the ability to play just about any amp at any volume with it on any can, plus run IR from it or even use it as a power amp for a preamp pedal, it really is hard to beat. It’s very pricy though. To me it’s worth the extra money. I use it for almost all of my amps now.
@josephmurphy1944
@josephmurphy1944 Жыл бұрын
@@anthonyjwilkerson thanks for the response! Have to agree, it seems the Fryette is definitely the best tool for the job. However I don't really see myself ever needing most of the extra features, just the attenuation. I've seen some positive reviews for the Ironman 2 mini, it might do the trick at a cheaper price, although I'm not sure if it will "preserve" the tone anywhere near as well as the Fryette when the attenuation is significant. By the way the playing in these videos is fantastic, really enjoyed this and would love to hear more from you on this amp!

Would you elect for the tru-fi fuzz or this one? Is this the mini? Sounds great!
@anthonyjwilkerson
@anthonyjwilkerson Жыл бұрын
Well they are both very different pedals. The Dunlop BOG Fuzz Face is not an actual fuzz face circuit. It's just what Dunlop calls it. It's allegedly an Octavio circuit with the octave removed. It was inspired and or copied from the red fuzz face with white knobs Hendrix used later in his career (1970). The Tru-Fi Two Face is more of a traditional Fuzz Face circuit with some added features. It has an input gain control pot which helps alleviate some of the oscillation caused by putting a wah in front of it. It also houses both Silicon (BC108) and Germanium (AC128) transistors in the same housing, allowing for different eras of the fuzz face circuit in one pedal. Also there is a bias knob which shapes the tonal character of the fuzz on the Germanium side. The one used in this video is indeed the Dunlop Mini BOG. Personally I really like the Dunlop Minis and I have them all. The Tru-Fi is awesome too, if just for the convenience of having Germanium/Silicon on a switch. You could probably get two Mini Dunlops for the price of one Tru-Fi, but the BOG version is it's own thing. I apologize for the length of my answer but I'm pretty passionate about Fuzz Faces lol Perhaps my next video should be a Face Face shootout?
