This band was a true force of nature in their day!! I bought a ticket for $3 on a friend’s recommendation, headed over to Pensacola FL with him and never looked back! Doug Gray’s amazing voice, the Caldwell brothers, George on rhythm, Paul holding down the beat and the great Jerry Eubanks on sax and flute! So damn good!! Long live “chicken pickin’”!!

The amazing part of that guitar work is that Toy always used his thumb instead of a pick. His brother Tommy on the bass also played with his thumb. Both were self taught.

The Marshall Tucker Band was one of the absolutely best bands of their day…Toy Caldwell and his brother Tommy thumb picked…I was fortunate enough to have been on stage with them when this train called 24 Hours at a time got rollin’ and when she left the station there wasn’t a person in the arena still seated…I mean shit boy howdy was this ever an amazing tune listen to it and them daily.. story about their history if ya wanna hear it!

I have to agree. Born and raised in St Louis, my dad was a southern rock/blues man. MTB, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, OMD, CDB, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. To this day MTB is my favorite band and music of all time. I was lucky enough to see MTB and CDB in concert, even though I was only 13 years old. LOL. All of these bands loved coming here and had a large intense following and enjoyed much airplay on KSHE radio.

OMG this such a great, great tune. All the stars lined up for MTB on this live recording. I used this song as a soundtrack for any long highway trip I had to take back in the late 70s & early 80s.

I saw MTB 5 times in 3states between 74 and 77 and they always killed it. The best concert was when Wet Willie was the opening act followed by the Charlie Daniels Band and the Tucker boys closed. All 3 bands had members sit in on the others sets. The high lights were Toy Caldwell playing pedal steel guitar with the other bands and Charlie Daniels playing fiddle. And yeah Charlie sat in on 24 Hours At A Time. You can see this live version on a 1976(?) Volunteer Jam concert.

Well,shit! You DID play the long version,THANK YOU! I am so happy you got to hear this,I was on the stage about 20 feet from them 3 shows at B.B's.This was always their encore. That was Charlie( Funky Chunky) Daniel's on fiddle & if not mistaken also Dickie Betts (Allman Brothers) on the second guitar solo.Teally,thanks for the audio treat! Great song. Great band. The studio version of that song is from my favorite MTB album, A New Life. You would enjoy some of the early Charlie Daniels Band music. Charlie is more famous for his fiddle playing, but he's a an even better guitarist. The whole band is super talented. #nicknlexrequest Check out one of these tunes by them if you ever get a chance. Saddle Tramp from the Saddle Tramp album and/or the song No Place to Go from the Fire On the Mountain album. Enjoyed your reaction as always 👋👍👍

I love the original Marshall Tucker lead singer that sang the song Can't You See. When he started out he was so young and vibrant, but before he died I think the drugs took a toll on him

Just an incredible band! I was so lucky to see them live in Tulsa in 1974! This live version was pretty much like the one I saw as Toy Caldwell was tearing it up again on this song, but without Charlie Daniels playing along!

@@bluesman3232 they played there in OKC on 10-18-75 at the civic center and ironically they played in Tulsa on 10-17-74! I had to check mine out too as I knew I saw them my second year in College which was ‘74! We had two car loads of guys who drove from Tahlequah, OK (college town) to OKC in 1975 to see the Yes concert!

I was actually at the show (Milwaukee, WI - 11 July 1974) where the live sections of this album were recorded at. Charlie Daniels showing up as a “special surprise guest” was the worst kept secret in the city, but it was still cool that he showed up and played.

True Trivia. Bassist and lead guitar are brothers taught to play by only using their thumbs. Tommy (bass) was the band leader and his brother Toy (guitar) wrote all the songs. Charlie Daniels played fiddle at this show and on this song. All members of the band on this are now dead except Doug Gray. Lead vox. Any tour for decades features none of these guys for the most part.
