Washing hands is so important. This video is a great example of how unseen germs are passed. This shows how something that seems so little can cause such big issues.

What has always amazed me is those people who wash their hands very carefully in public restrooms and then open the restroom door with their bare hands on their way out. I always use a paper towel to do it after I've washed and dried my hands.

As someone who studied pathophysiology and epidemiology, our books never mentioned this although you learn from common sense that the most dangerous places to get sick are as follows 1 - Public schools and kids play school areas. Young kids sometimes often do not understand the importance of handwashing and may transmit a lot of diseases around these areas. If you live near or see a relative that is a kid attending them keep in mind they will probably be sick at some point in time and spread it to others in the household 2 - Public transportation - buses, trains and especially airlines often do not have openable windows (as the last cannot at the altitude due to temperature/oxygen levels. The buses and trains often have windows that are not or only partially openable windows and only get ventilated mildly when passengers go in and out and the door opens to allow for this. Sick people travelling on them may easily transmit these around and they may be a concentrated area for all sorts of germs. Passengers often have to buy airline tickets months before they ever knew they would get sick before travelling. Since they cannot change the schedule, they may have no option other than to go aboard the flight and some may be on medications yet still not completely well 3 - Public picnic tables. Spores and all sorts of organisms thrive near these. If you are out at one, avoid as much contact with a picnic table as possible when eating and wash hands after at a washroom if there is one or a bottle of soapwater you carry with you 4 - Hospitals and also doctors clinics areas and waiting rooms - these are where many sick people go to get checked and treated, spreading the bacteria, virus or germs to others in the area. Always wash hands after being in these places. I have worked in one so am perhaps more immune than some 5 - Biolabs, in institutions and other places or even in your own work area - have lots of germs due to the content of the things in them. Proper glove ware, removing gloves when exiting a lab to go to elevators, discarding used gloves, and handwashing after visiting or studying/working in these places should be done. If you habitually are a frequent traveller or work in hospitals or such places, you may be already more immune. If not, you may be less so and may get sick more easily when you visit these places on occasion you may be more at risk. Especially if you do not frequent these places or study or work in one and are in contact with others who do. Also toughening up to germs emotionally works - avoiding places due to fear of getting sick may actually make one more, not less vulnerable

Washing your hands is very important for your safety and the safety of others around you. To stop the spread of bacteria using antibacterial soap with warm water is key to kill germs. This video is a very educational demonstration to see germs that we cannot see with the human eye on its own.

@maartendeleeuw24866 жыл бұрын
Hospitals are different in that perspective ;) Besides the people doctors and nurses like myself meet have a decreased resistance and are more likely to get sick. Besides a typical flu could kill a person with a serious lung disease.

I have a friend that's 70 years old and doesn't believe in washing his hands if he pees. i don't know him personally but i tried and tried to convince him to start washing his hands. Now he pings on his penis being cleaned and perhaps mine is dirty. No, I don't have a dirty penis I tell him, I was just taught from an early age to ALWAYS wash your hands. I am amazed while traveling, especially in a rest room, how many men don't wash their hands. So I get a paper towel and touch everything especially the handle as I leave. Am I a germaphobe? I'm 62 and rarely get sick, so I must be doing something right.

That doctor would likely have washed his hands after examining the patient. If patient came in saying he had a virus or possibly onset, the doc would have taken precautions. This is somewhat exaggerated, but also realistic. lol!!

Sure, good advice. But how about start by showing up to your patient without the lab coat and instead use short sleeve scrubs? It allows for easier sanitizing of hands and arms, so bacteria do not stick to clothing. Also in informational videos such as this, it is wise to point out things like jewelery, (where bacteria can adhere, and is not as easy to clean), or a simple thing as not having your stethoscope around your neck.
This is a way over simplification! How to wash hands so as to not recontaminate them at the end? If the bathroom door opens inward and you don't use a dry paper towel to open it, you and dirty again. Not all hand washers are health care professionals. Please put out easy to understand instructions so ordinary folks get it. If they don't use a paper towel to turn off the faucet AND to open an inward opening door, they might as well not bother washing their hands at all.: A nurse who knows
