I’ve noticed if you have your trap all the way to the back of the slots you’ll end up with more hip caught animals. Nice area though and good times with friends. 👍

Northern Trapper I’ve found the sauvageau kills very well from the chest through to the head. Even if they get in further than that, then the second jaw hits the head. Probably more trap than is needed for marten as it can be damaging to pelt but extremely effective for humane kills. I’ve trapped with vertical boxes open to top and or from bottom as well as horizontal mount. Dynamics and variables involved for all situations. Even Vertical mount with trap opening at bottom poses challenges with leg caught marten remaining alive. I try to keep learning from every individual set / example. Thanks for the comments.

Looks like fun and work . Which works best. Snow machines or the four tracks ?

I run in a mountainous area where I start with tires on the quad, then with tracks and very often have a month or more with snowmobile. Very Rocky and chinook, windy weather dictates this. Pretty wild.

That's some beautiful country, where about is your trapline located? Them darn bears. Do the wolves bother with your marten in the traps? We have them bother sometimes but not very often. Our trapline is around the Slave lake area. Do you get a lot of fisher? Good luck trapping.

Trapline05 close to Mcbride. Wolverine raid marten the most.

Guy Worsnop they are very good in that they are a necessity. Just enough snow and ice that tires aren’t enough. Small grip tires and chains can work for me also but not always. Problem I have is I may see all different conditions / scenarios of weather and snow and thus the tracks are needed. Having said that, they have limitations and many moving parts and have to be handled with care. I trap alone lots and am not interested in leaving a broke down machine is the bush.
