Suite No. 1 (or Fantaisie-Tableaux for two pianos), Op. 5, is a composition for two pianos by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Composed in 1893, this suite illustrates four extracts of poems, written by Mikhail Lermontov, Lord Byron, Fyodor Tyutchev and Aleksey Khomyakov.
This work was first performed on November 30, 1893, by Rachmaninoff and Pavel Pabst in Moscow, and is dedicated to Tchaikovsky.
The four movements are:
I. Barcarolle. Allegretto, in G minor.
II. La nuit... L'amour... Adagio sostenuto, in D major. (The night...the love...)
III. Les Larmes. Largo di molto, in G minor. (The Tears)
IV. Pâques. Allegro maestoso, in G minor. (Easter)

Once in my life I had the chance to be with them in a concert. Never ever I will forget that. This Suite and these Déesses make us believe in miracles. Thank you for the chance to watch their hands so near and side by side! Wonderful video!

I wish Rachmaninoff gave us some more passages like 6:21 ... But thankfully I can just rewind and replay forever

Nobody, but NOBODY could write a barcarolle like Rachmaninoff. Fortunately, we have three...count 'em...THREE stunning barcarolles from which to choose: the duo from his Suite for 2 pianos Op 5, or the piano solo Op 10 No. 3 or the duet for 1 piano, 4 hands from Op 11. Or simply enjoy all three; they are all masterpieces...balm to sooth your soul when it is pining for something....or someone

I have long been a fan of Martha Argerich but this is the first time I've seen her relying on the manuscript. First time I've heard this music or the other lady, looking forward to the other 3 movements!

Gonna be honest, I didn't really care for these until I heard these brilliant women play it! I don't know Zilberstein, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised coming from Argerich.

My apologies, but the #2 here to Martha's lead guitar or whatever you pros call it is not even REMOTELY as magical/enchanting, gorgeous/touching, or true/perfect as what INBAR ROTHSCHILD can do. I have lost all reason to sugarcoat the truth. I just want Martha and Inbar to give us a version of this together, for posterity.

Does anyone have further information on the poems that influenced Rachmaninov? I’d love to read them

Here's a good place to start. www.andersonroe.com/rachmaninoff-suite-1 The excerpts in Russian can be found in the score. I haven't found all poems in their entirety yet, though. It's probably easier if you speak and read Russian.

What are they looking for in the scores ??? How much information can they get from the score , playing at such a speed ??? If sb knows , let me know please .
@varisahaydarpashic
@varisahaydarpashic 5 жыл бұрын
Often they are not looking at the notes specifically, but phrases or markings for tempo and any notes they left for themselves. Usually, the speed stops being of much importance when the piece is learnt properly, it becomes phrases, colours and emotions. You don't necessarily think about every single note, you thought about all of them individually and together when you were learning the piece. What we see here is how they have "slept on the piece" or intertwined it with their own emotions and stories. So the sheets often just serve as a visual reminder of the progression of the piece.
