Technically, this must be one of the most challenging pieces to play. It requires such endurance and independence on the thumb and pinkie. I have never seen anybody play this movement with such accuracy and speed as Argerich.

A real treasure, thank you for making this available! I learned this sonata and performed it when I was 15, listening to a Slviatislov Richter recording...wish I had also heard this one!

quite funny : the commentary at the beginning of this video says that Martha Argerich isn't as expressive as usual with Schumann (her favourite composer with Beethoven) and that her interpretation is fast and somehow weak (?). As I understood this is a east-Germany broadcast from the seventies.

She said in an interview that Schumann touches her more deeply than any other composer...

@katbullar I totally agree with you! His comment is total bullsh*t! I think, he is Joachim Kaiser, a music critique with worldwide reputation, but I am not quite sure. He is pretty young there, but he sure sounds like Kaiser! The reputation or the fame truly has nothing to do with how good someone is at his job... as Maestro Celibidache once said when asked about why he doesn't like Karajan - one of the most respected and well-known conductors: Coca Cola is also famous.

This playing reminds of Marc-Andre, the Canadian piano player.. because of the mechanical ability.... no offense intended...

She recorded this for Deutsche Grammophone. Incredible playing all the way through and way more than just technique. This recording is very good but not quite as good.
