That method for baking the apples prior to the puff pastry part, is ideal. I could just bake like that and enjoy. I would need restraint so I can get to the 2nd half of the recipe

I actually have a better recipe than Martha’s. I’m not bragging. But it doesn’t make any sense to bake the apples first then cool them and then wrap them in the dough. I have a recipe where you caught the apple all the way through, you put it on a square of piecrust, you put a mixture of sugar and spices down the core, put a pat of butter on top and then wrap the Square of pie crust around the apple folding it so it makes a pretty pattern. You placed them in a baking dish and take the remaining sugar flour and spice mixture (I usually use Trader Joe’s pumpkin pie spice mix), add a cup or two of water to it, stir it up and pour it in the bottom of the pan. You let it bake for an hour and it makes its own syrup.
