It was a lone Raven Guard legionary who was being trained as a techmarine at the time the heresy started. Can’t remember the name of it, but it was a short story rather than a full novel. Got evacuated off Mars and then Malcador sent him back to try and destroy one of the stations on the poles that produces Mars’ electromagnetic field releasing the atmosphere and killing anything organic while leaving all industry intact.

One of the problems with this edition of the Horus Heresy is that it is poorly compartmentalized. The decision to make separate rulebooks for the factions seemed good to me at the time, but looking back I think the format of history, faction lore, campaign rules and army rules is one of the things that made the Black Books special. The Martian Civil War and the Liber Mechanicum should be united in the same volume, or given the importance of the events on Mars, in two volumes: the first one dedicated to the standard Taghmata and other Martian factions (Knights, Titans, maybe Skitarii allies) and the second one containing rules to represent the desperate measures taken by each side (DAoT Archeotech, daemon engines, repurposed xenos artifacts, etc). Also, making two volumes would allow for more special characters, like Koriel Zeth, the Kaban Machine, Kelbor-Hal, etc.
@doomguy90493 ай бұрын
Well said, I couldn't agree more and your idea about a two volume set for the Mechanicum+Martian Civil War sounds much better than how GW chose to handle things.

gw has been fumbling campaign books for years going back till probably 5th ed if not earlier: - the fall of cadia book of gathering storm really should have had relics and rules coming out it's seams for every army that had troops there, it should have included rules for formally apoc book units that required conversion building like the leviathan command vehicles (which were on cadia in both hands - vigilus campaign: needed a lot more rules for forces in it especially the sisters of battle who despite having a solid presence on the world got ignored by the rules team (like every other book they were in till the 2020 codex and a following campaign book) - psychic awakening faith and fury mentioned the sisters of battle but gave them nothing despite them being one of the two most faithful factions in the game (other being wordbearers) - i would mention newer examples but honestly campaign books cost money and mine is eaten up buying models and parts for converting models that gw would make a campaign book that should be about a different faction be about the marines really doesn't surprise me at all

Is it really that hard to believe when other people say the game has problems but the overall state of it is enjoyable to them, that's their sincere opinion? And the reason they're happy is they're not bothered by all the same things you are or at least not to the same degree? I agree that non-marine and legion specific rules are seriously in need of a rework, and it's overdue. Focus also needs to be given to unsupported ranges to bring them up to a certain baseline. Those are the two biggest issues facing the game right now. On the whole, though, I think it's pretty fun.

Your statement and answer is to address the fact that the game now has glaring issues and the solution to these issues is to be apathetic to them. @@cornchaptermasterofcarmine5902 See, that's the thing that bothers me, that assumption that it *must* be apathy, ignorance, or shilling if other people are more positive on the state of the game. I watch Outer Circle for a different perspective to chalange my thinking in the first place, so that's fine, but It's mildly annoying to see more moderate views being dismissed as ingenious or simping for GW. I think the health of the game is better than it's given credit for here, despite some of the flaws I agree need to be addressed. Many things the channel brings up I don't agree are actual problems, or are issues but their impact is overstated. That doesn't make me apathetic, it's jsut a difference of opinion. Of course, I also think some of what's said here is dead on, too.
