An additional point i want to add as i had in various internet places. One thing to remember is this book has a lot of content in it (4 warlord traits. 4 techno arcana 3 of which have their own cyberthergy, rules for traitor knights, 4 daemon engines, new krios gun, 3 marine characters.. The difficulty is that they had been giving it away to us for free in the exemplary battles pdfs. So a question is would people prefer to not have the exemplary battle things and save it all for a book release? Or keep getting the PDFs but at some point they might be released in a hardback book with slightly updated rules (only a couple in this case).

They should have included extra new rules when they decided to cut out the rules and put them up for free. For example daemon engines for the other dominions, named characters for the Mech, Skitarii, etc.

Most of my issues with the books aren't with the mechanics, it's about how they seem to have decided what they want to include lore-wise, which units they wanted to include, and didn't really care if the two matched up.
@jensburkhardt40063 ай бұрын
It's even worse with the lack of models: no usarax, no vultarax, no optional weapons for the thanatar, no scyllax, vorax, krios, dormitar, mymidons... Most of these are listed as being out of stock, but some are marked as sold out online which in the past meant: will never be restocked... I just dont get the release of the mechanicum in general with the state of things

Slight correction. The Daemon engines were updated, but not massively. The brass scorpion got a * to indicate that it's attacks on profile included having 2 claws (so in essence it lost 1 attack...) The Kytan and Scorpion got a * to also say despite them being knights, they can't be in a Questoris household. They also changed a section of the Aetheric Dominion rule to no longer restrict you to 1 dominion per detachment by removing that bit of text. So now you can take both slaughterers and decimators together. The last change for them involving one of the cyberthergy as you kind of mentioned. The ones featured in the book are now restricted to the person with a particular Techno Arcana now. While previously you could take it on any dominus, prime, tech priest who are traitor (which could lead to threat range 50" charges on a Kytan before).

All the daemon engines are still available from GW (well, most are out of stock at the moment but…). They show under the Chaos Space Marines for 40K, searching for them seems unreliable for some reason, particularly the blood slaughterers.

While an okay book by the sounds of it, some things about it annoy me. I find it lazy that they haven't updated the missions in it since Siege of Cthonia. What also really annoys me is that they give some rules for traitor Mech, but then don't capitalize on it by giving unique traitor mech datasheets. That there were gonna be Marines in it was unfortunately a given, but even then they give us more loyalists. If you give us Marine characters, do some for the Legions people actually want, like World Earers, Iron Warriors etc. What I will give them props for though, is the Raven Guard datasheet update (and hopefully a model for Rex at some point) as that Legion needs a lot of fleshing out still. (Not Imperial Fists).

Not seen you chaps before, I'm yet to read my copy of TMCW and I enjoyed this summary - thank you! I also wonder just how much support Specialist Games get from GW proper, 'cos this Dark Mech fiasco is just another sign that I suspect that GW management just throw them a bone every now and then while focusing on their darling AOS and the much diminished 10E 40k. Sad really, because I feel that Spec Games are the only creative part of GW who actually care about us older long-term players (because GW have had enough money out of us and are questing for new players, hence pushing more simple rulesets) because Spec Games is where all the old skool long-term GW staff ended up. You have a similar set up to us but you're bold enough to use webcams, haha! When I get time I'll check out the rest of your stuff, keep up the good work! I've used Kirton 'Games for mail order before, they're a good bunch! :D Matt - Grumpy Grognard Gaming

I think this book sucks. Questoris rules were already free Demon engines rules were already free So for the new Dark Mech rules, I’m paying for a new Krios profile, 4 new WLTs and 4 new techno arcana. Are these any good? The only good WLT is scion of Sarum, the rest are too niche case; you’d almost always take A Soul of Cold Iron or Logic of Victory before them (outside of Scion of Sarum). Additionally, none of the Techno Arcana have any synergy with the rest of the army (the biggest letdown being Nekrotek because your Archmagos still can’t join automata, so he can’t join the unit of regenerating robots). IWND 5+ is only good if you’re spamming Thanatars, which nobody does because that’s a dick move. To really add salt to the wound, there’s 3 updated Space Marine profiles with no new Mechanicus character. To even top all of that off, they made a massive lore error (Sigismund has the black sword in the book despite the fact that he didn’t receive it until he returns to Terra later). Hugely HUGELY disappointed with this book.

I mean the rules will freely float around the net or do so already. You mostly pay for the lore, presentation and images - at least that is my experience for what I actually realistically use the books for.

Doing a "WAA WAA WAA" impression to belittle critics before admitting the book is not very good is kind of a perfect encapsulation of the psychological requirement of every GW consumer to treat totally justified negativity as an infantile response, rather than an accurate assessment that "Whoops, company well known for poor practices *does it again*."

Nice stuff if you want the background on the new Astartes characters or like running daemon engines. Otherwise not very good for the average mech player as there is little to nothing for use be it lore or rules. Though I did like seeing Skitarii conclave in action so I hope they get fleshed out in future. Otherwise good mech = red and baddies = black. An oversimplification of things I think. 160ish pages instead of 240 this time with only 1 article about the contents on Warhammer community. GW can certainly do better.

'most people play legions' is the lamest excuse I have ever heard. It is literally the Horus Heresy, legion against legion. If people want to play a subsidiary force? They will. They don't need a f+*&ing Astartes Character to do so.
@FrakMunkie2 ай бұрын
The REASON those characters are in the book is to make Astartes players but something they don't need to have official rules inside a GW establishment. That is all. It is just another scummy 'buy more sh+*' tactic by GW.
