When my grandmother had to introduce new chickens into a coop where there were already others, she would put the same perfume on all of them, just a few drops. This way, the chickens would think they were all from the same group because of the shared scent.

If the greenhouse is orientated E-W along the ridge beam, then the north side will see little or no sun. So windows on the north side could be replaced with a wall, to act as a heat sink and keep the greenhouse warm at night. A single pitch roof would make it easier to catch rainwater and if the north side is shaded it will allow more light in from the south. Just a thought.....
@dottiebaker6623
@dottiebaker6623 6 ай бұрын
I thought about orientation to the sun, too, but I'm sure Martijn has as well. He's watched Johannes' greenhouse for several years, so I'm sure he's aware of how it affects the plants. It looks like his whole property faces north, so he won't get southern sun until later in the morning, no matter what. I also think Martijn is a man who considers aesthetics as well as function. We'll see how he balances the two.....

The greenhouse looks to be something that will withstand stormy weather. I'm sure you know ventilation is one of the more important things. Some put ventilation in the rafters, others close to the base. You've got some decent wood to make basic raised beds not as deep as the first one. Your growing season is very short but with the greenhouse you add 2-4 weeks to the season.

Crone who has watched your progress for a few years on your homestead. This part of Europe, the Italian Alps, was my mother's favorite when we would visit living in Bayern. Both the beauty and its people. My sister still makes the trip when she visits Germany. I have had chickens since I was five years old in Appalachia, and at seventy, my neighbor has taken care of mine still. We called it, "The Egg Laying Song." When I retired from my farm they allow hens but not roosters. However, eight hens laying and singing is noisier than a rooster. All the neighborhood hears them. Thank you for your videos and your hard work ethic and doing things as they should be done. God Go With You and Yours.

Agreed. I was worried when he initially was going to put it in the newly cleared forest with the trees so dense on several sides. Hopefully he'll align the greenhouse to get the most southern exposure so he can grow both early and late in the mountain seasons. I would have built it still further out and away from the shade of the forest behind it.

I agree! Most KZbin channels use the most annoying music. Martijn uses tasteful, appropriate music, and he uses it sparingly. It seems everything he does is well thought out, and carefully planned. I appreciate that because most of my projects are spur-of-the-moment, and slapped together!

I am glad you changed your flowers in the flower box. They are doing well in my sandy soil by the sea in South Africa. ❤

The old beech is pretty amazing. What a peaceful place it could be to enjoy the view, unwind after a day of hard work and take in all nature has to offer. Clearing it did make such a difference.

Martijn so excited to watch you and Ollie start the footings for the green house. With the original stone roof etc and glass will be beautiful in the bush that you have uncleared. Growing up learning horticulture from your father, a Qualified Horticulturist the greenhouse will be exciting to build.

The peace & the deep appreciation of even the tiniest living creature - loved those adorable field mice in the wood pile ! Funny I always forget about this video until almost midday Sunday here in NJ - busy doing other things, then it suddenly hits me - whoops - didn't see what's going on in the Italian mountains this week ! Always a big treat & sets the pace for the rest of the day ! Knowing what matters is the secret of happiness ! Thank you to Martijn for giving that to all of us !

Perhaps you don't notice all of those folks who step in and out of watching your presentation of your newly developed life. I'm one of them, that has watched, and supported your efforts from the begining of your shared broadcast. My life is stepping up, therefore I watch your progress once in awhile, instead of all of the time. I guess, I'm confessing guilty to you, for not watch like I once did so long ago. EXCELLENT EFFORT,!!!*** My good friend, GOD Bless you in all of your endeavors, Remember, B-Strong, B n CHRIST. Love Brthrn Jeff B.

Remember greenhouse placement is paramount. Full sun only. I guess that big tree won't shade too muck. Nice work Martin.

There are a lot of very happy birds singing in the trees and probably eating a lot of your bugs! It's such a great time of year, the berries are all in bloom and sending up next year's new shoots, flowers are starting to bloom, trees and shrubs all leafed out... I love it! We are getting rain, too, for the next couple of days. I am still working outside, but it does send me indoors a little more than usual. It's lovely to see your progress and visitors.
