I've started to rebuild the dog shed, which is going to be a utility room. Daan and Thomas are helping out with the last work on the road. I'm visiting Geppo's work shop to deliver the old floor boards to make the window frames and finally, there is an egg.

I have been following you since the beginning of your work in Italy. I eagerly await your weekly video, and I never miss it. I'm not alone; my best friend in Denmark does the same. I appreciate how you speak sparingly, allowing us to hear the sounds around you. I admire your respect for insects, always setting them free by opening the window, and your chickens that sometimes seem to trustingly follow you. Most importantly, I love that you choose classical music and avoid songs. You tell everything without words and on your shoulder, through images. Congratulations! I'm writing to you from Peru.

It's not surprising Geppo & Martijn are friends - they are both building beautiful stone homes, they both appreciate old timber, eating outdoors, both are fastidious in arranging their tools and are happy to feed visitors who roll their sleeves up.

I've been battling depression for the past 8 years. I've been following your journey for almost a year now, and whenever I find it difficult to keep going, I always look forward to your new beautiful videos. Seeing you so motivated and hardworking inspires me to push forward and pursue my dreams. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to afford to move somewhere closer to nature and gradually make it my home; in this aspect, our goals aren't that different, I suppose. You are doing an amazing job both in your work and presenting it in such a cinematic way. I hope you have a beautiful Sunday, Martijn!☮

I just posted the same advice before reading the comments. I buy food grade to make sure it doesn’t have anything else contaminating it. I dust it around the feral cat’s food bowl. They get it on their feet and spread it to the rest of their bodies.

@@sandihandi7831 Hello 🤗Have some fun and experiment! First thing, the quality of your yeast. If you use dry yeast the water should be just a little hotter than your body temp (104 degrees), if it scalds you then it is too hot for yeast. Too room temp and the dry yeast won't activate. Add a tbsp of sugar to the water before the yeast - to give it food to activate. Never put salt in the yeast directly, add the salt to the dry ingredients. Practice your light rolling palm technique to knead the bread. If you are able, acquire a bread pan or cast-iron 6 to 8 qt. Pot with a lid - it will create a nice crust.

Your Dad probably told you, if you break off the tip of the main stem of the tomato plant when it reaches as tall as you want it to be, it will stop getting any taller and concentrate on fruit production. Also, on the tomato's, if you begin removing the "suckers" (a stem that begins right in the "crotch" -- the very center of a "V" between a leaf vine and the main vine-- you can control the density (volume) of the plant. Those "suckers" are literally another main vine so the plant begins to get very "thick" if they are all left in place. Actually, if you let the sucker get to a reasonable size, it will root and become a new plant if you burry its end in dirt. It takes a couple of weeks with lots of water but it works. That flea problem is nasty and can be dangerous since they can carry disease from the animal they were on.

7:25 you have a butterfly at your rooftop looking in on you. 😊 Martijn I don’t know about the fleas you have in Italy, but my experience in US is the fleas would not stay where there is no food source. If your critters are gone and have been gone for a while now from your cabin I wouldn’t think they would still be there with nothing to feed on. I say this just as FYI, could your bites be coming from yard or tent? Be careful with flea bites and working around their feces. You can get diseases, some from bites and some from inhaling their dried feces. You really should wear mask when you are brushing the fine stuff off stones. Protect your lungs! 💚 from Texas

I also live in northern Italy, on the plain, & we have an insect called papataci. Otherwise known as sand fleas. They look more like smaller mosquitoes, bite is really allergenic, & they can carry leishmania. I just bought a 20 kilo bag of diatomaceous earth & it works great! Also, Martijn, be careful of those giant wasps, calibrone. I had a nest in a chimney, had a heck of a time getting someone to put wire netting over it because they’re so dangerous. That said, your videos bring me such pleasure, & joy seeing your progress. Thank you for sharing this journey.

Hello, this may help, growing peppermint around your cottages as a taller ground cover will deter mice, they don't like it. It is a zone 5 perennial. Not sure what growth zone you are sometime snow cover can add a zone if plant is buried. Can start from seed "winter sow" look that up. Can be invasive as it is a mint. Then use the excess for cooking etc. :D Thanks for the videos.

@@priscilla2152 Diatomaceous-Earth is quite effective and its non toxic for humans, animals and plants. But he would need loads of that to entireley cover up the entire floor inside and around the house with that stuff and if the next rain comes and washes it away, he would have to repeat that again and cover the entire area at least till autumn to really eliminate a big part of the flea population. Seriously this or spraying the entire house and area with toxic chemicals are the only way.... unless if he gets a dog or some cats or other animals like some goats and gives them regularly every month flea Spot-Ons. (Only the expensive ones from the vet are strong enough to effectiveley kill fleas and ticks!) the lice would bite the animals, would get poisioned from drinking their blood and die.

My baby daughter was still crawling, so I didn’t want to fumigate as I didn’t want the chance of toxic residue on any surfaces. At the end of video, on that cliff you have around so much elderflowers and you can make juice with them. My grandma use 5 L jar with some flowers , sugar (how much you want) and honey. Add water , close the jar and place it in a cold space for at least 2 days . Amazing beverage !

Brava for the chicken who brought you the first egg! Sometimes I can't believe the sounds in the background of your videos is real. It is so beautiful and idyllic. It was great to see your appreciation for the cheese from the Netherlands. As a cheese lover I really related to that😂. What a thoughtful gift from your visitors. I also enjoyed seeing the workshop of the window guy and his big project home. What a perfect resource. Can't wait for more eggs. Regarding the fleas, you may be allergic. I am and so the reaction to flea bites is more severe with me and lasts a couple of weeks. Misery. The cabin looks so beautiful! So exciting 👏👏👏

Sorry about the bug problem! I would fumigate now and then again later. In other words several times. Insect bites can be a real health hazard that you cannot chance, especially when you don't know for sure what is really attacking you. Love that Dutch cheese!

With your tomato plants, ...you can remove the branches that do not contain flowers. You can easily tell by their shape which ones they are, then the tomatoes will get more sun and it allows the plant to remain light, so you don't have to stake it as much. 😁

I would recommend spraying now with a hand sprayer for the fleas -knock them down so you’re able to work without getting bitten. Fleas carry bad diseases and you don’t want to get sick. Once you get the place sealed, you can fumigate but until then, I think you can fight them off with a topical spray

Great video again! Have you thought about rendering your interior walls and then painting white? Maybe leave one wall as an accent wall that is pointed. It would make much quicker work of sealing your space and also give you a lot more light in a small space.

Those walls are "pointed" with a filler type, then left as stone. To properly finish that type of stone wall requires a minimum of 5 coats of various finishes. It's easier to point, especially if a mix with hemp is used. Hemp helps insulate and regulate moisture when using lime point.

Martijn, as a temporary fix, you may want to try natural scent repellents to help keep fleas at bay. Eucalyptus, peppermint, clove are a few that may work - mix essential oils with water in a spray bottle and then spritz here and there. Cinnamon and hot red pepper flakes keep raccoons away from my hummingbird feeders.
