Just a few things I love about your videos, Martijn: They're weekly, and all nearly an hour long. That they're beautifully edited, aesthetically shot, and that music is used minimally and tastefully. They don't contain paid promotions. ...That's huge. There's plenty of room for the viewer to observe, to take in the breadth of what you're digging/building/eating/seeing, etc. ...Quite meditative, actually. And that the work being done -naturally- is so thoroughly considered, yet not overly explained. I forget now if I discovered your work through Two Years on a Bike, or if I stumbled on this project first. Alas, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you keep posting these beautiful videos, and we all get to join you on this challenging, backbreaking, beautiful journey. And whenever this journey has ended (cursed be the day), I look forward to walking back to cabin post #1 and watching it all over again. Keep up the fabulous work. ...And greetings from Norway.

You said well, what I was thinking, every bit ... the editing, the drone, the working together and breaking bread, a beer together ... an all-important part to bring life back to your beautiful new/ old homestead that has stood the test of time. All of the above and it's all coming together. Nice work Martijn and those helping him preserve the history of the area. Nice work, indeed!

I love how as a visionary you stay true to the picture in your own head! Nobody stands behind a Painter and says nah, do it the other way, or "wrong color"! They simply walk around the art gallery and don't touch a thing and just appreciate the artists journey, there is no going back and repainting the Mona Lisas accurate smirk.

Hello martijn. This is kathryn .You are stunning as usual. I wish you would consider wearing a mask when you are drilling the stones. Perhaps an [ N95] paper mask or even a bandana when it is excessively humid. The bag mortar dust can be problematic as well. An interesting comment from a viewer re buildings looking happy . It has been my experience having been in the trades. ,that buildings or projects talk to you. Sometimes they will fight you tooth and nail and other times things will go smoothly. Yes I believe there is a spirit that you can feel or see esp w older builds. As far as your design ideas ,which have always been "tops" , sometimes - less is more - remember what originally attracted you to your particular mountain. Thanks for showing the world that peace and grace are a good way to be when the rest of the world is screaming static. As always ks from the u.s. ❣️

You were a great inspiration for my own little project I finished about two weeks ago. Not stone but wood, not in the alps but in the apennine...but what matters is the spirit: I "copied" from you the calm and the patience with myself, doing things step by step, enjoying the process without rushing. Organizing, thinking, building, cleaning up AND doing a household whilst being alone is quite challenging. cheers!

For future reference...food grade diatomaceous earth would've gotten rid of the fleas and eggs without poison. Plus, it never spoils, and any that would've gotten into cracks and crevices would have continued to keep insects from thriving. I used it on my home 10 years ago and haven't had any fleas at all since. 😊

**** A tip on the new step built this week below. You accomplished a lot this week Martijn. Your utility room looks so nice with the arched door. I like your idea to keep the original look. When you talked about this, my mind went to the renditions you showed us a few weeks back. I thought they added too much of a contemporary look, making the cabins look unnatural in their settings. The step the guys built…..I had one just like that….mice/rats built a nest under it and drew in a snake. I filled it with small rocks and concrete, no more critters. You might want to think about that. Your hens have really taken to you! I smiled when you picked the white one up. She is so comfortable with you. You continue to amaze me with the time you take to film. Very nice job of filming and editing! Thank you Martijn. See you next week. 💚from Texas

I grow Tumbling Tom bush tomatoes which are far easier to handle. It's not required to pinch off any side shoots. Beautiful cherry tomatoes in abundance, though we could do with some warm weather here in central England. June had below average temperatures and July was even cooler. Now it's August and we're getting rain showers constantly. Not much sign of summer yet!

Merci ❤

This video went by so quickly! The arch looks fantastically beautiful, the chickens are happy, the stones are fitting together like they were made for that space. I loved the small lizard cameo, the perfect spacing of your nails pounded in, and I hope the fleas are history. Bravo, Martijn! Thank you for sharing your hard work and delightful world with all of us.

Martijn, Look into diatomaceous earth. We use it here in the states and I'm sure it's used all over the globe. It's much safer than insecticide and made of millions of diatoms, ground into a powder that you can poof into all the cracks and as long as it stays dry it will kill the fleas and any other insects that have exoskeletons. If it gets moist or wet, just reapply it. The silica cuts their exoskeleton and they literally dry up. You can also ad it to the chicken's dust bath and it will kill any mites or insects that may get on them and the great thing is that is will not harm them or you. You can also poof it on your garden veggies and where ever you see harmful insects.Just wear a dust mask when poofing as it can "scratch" your lungs, because of the silica. Here we use a device called a Pest Pistol to apply it. I don't know if you have this device in Italy. They cost about $10-12 dollars here, there?? I live in an apt. complex in SW Florida and we have lots of bugs and this stuff works great. I hope this helps. Your home is so awesome and beautiful. Many prayers for your continued success in whatever you may do. Sent with love and blessings, C.

God, what a satisfying project, to hunt, plan, struggle, and toil away, often alone, in beautiful surroundings to rehab/build the traditional/rustic yet simultaneously fab/modern home of your dreams....

When loading the wheel barrow, if bulk of weight is on the front slope, over the wheel, it helps greatly with momentum. Well done Martijn, as a global cycle tourer, self builder myself, now retired in southern Greece, I love this 😊
