Hello perhaps you can help - I've not watched Martijn's videos for a few weeks - I'm surprised to see him living in a tent - when I last watched he was residing in one of the dwellings (but not through winter) has anything happened to stop him occupying the dwellings?

Each video for me is a lesson about patience and seeing things through to the end. It's something some of us (including myself) have lost. I think it's why I come back again and again to watch your progress. Once you finish one gable wall, you move on to the next. Steady as she goes. I'm a half-assed knitter, and once I knit one sock, I tell myself I don't have the patience to knit the other one, so I quit. These videos show me the profound value of bringing patience to each task, whether it's polishing boots or setting stones.

Good morning Martijn. It is sort of ironic that the rest of Europe is on the cusp of a horrific energy crisis and shortage this winter. Natural gas and electricity will most likely be rationed, or not available at all for some periods of time. In many cases, energy prices have risen by 400% in some countries since 2020. Yet, you will be fine. By your own efforts, committment, ingenuity, and labor you have built yourself a self-sufficient homestead. You will be warm in your tent with that great Winnerwell stove, and have electricity through your solar. Thanks for letting us all share in your projects.

Yes, i have alot of it were i live, and in the last november a bear distroy one of my beehive. I renovated a 80 years old wooden cabin and live in it for 2 and a half years. I dont bike but I do hiking, bushcraft and canoe trips. Wish you good luck and just know that i was very glad waching your videos. Two more months of working and winter is coming.

The only shop a caravan and I would walk down our Manuka sided driveway for a swim in the icy lake before our breakfast. We had bunks and and an ancient coal range to cook on. The Bush was so beautiful. Now it is a small town with masses of buses bringing tourists to motels. How life changes. I am lucky to still live in the countryside. Tourists have not found us yet. My husband and I commuted to the city. Now he has passed and I bless you for your channel. I love your cycle book.

My parents home is built of stones. We live in the south of the US in Mississippi but the stones are from Chattanooga, Tn. They gave an oversized fireplace that 2 different masonry worked on. It’s interesting the blinding of that fireplace. It covers 1 wall & the lower portion & right side us more unusual larger rounded stone. A section on the left is more layer onto of layer that arches into the other side. It matches yet doesn’t. Truly artists, as you. Each their own style.

Hey Martjin, hope you catch this comment as I think it could be helpful. When cutting firewood for smaller pieces or kindling, grab a couple big bits and wrap them together with a bungie core or tie down strap and then chop. This technique keeps them all upright for you to chop to the size you want and also keeps your hands away from the axe. Love your work, also, I'm very much a fan of your boot care.

Gorgeous Italian Alps cloaked in Autumn 🍂 colors. You have done such a remarkable job of construction over the past year & your projects are always so interesting to observe. Loved the Sunday marketplace with the art, handmade utensils and just the getting together of local people😊 Great video! 🙋🏼‍♀️👍🏻🇺🇸🐄

with most of the content I take in, most are 10- 20+ in length, and I like it that way. but the long form you give every week, I find so enjoyable, the views from your mountain, the sounds of the bells on the cows and sheep, and Thank You so much of showing the town market. as a filmmaker, I see to work you put in just on the video work. Good Job

The cowbells seemed particularly musical this morning, maybe the echo, made me feel as though I were in church. Beautiful potatoes.

On one of the Azerbaijani vlogs they built several different types of outside stoves, including subterranean tandoor pit oven and one like your stone dining table but using a large thinnish slab as a griddle and used it to fry or saute right on the stone with fire under slab…very effective, and then a brick then clay lime render dome italian style pizza or bread oven…all at standing height….ideas

Funny how wet cement makes a sound all of its own when it's being stirred.

If you have birch in your firewood you can take the birchbark and use it as a fire starter. Thats how we do it here in Finland. Awesome videos Martijn!

Poor doormouse! But I had to laugh really hard at the way you threw it off the scaffolding. Martijn 1 : 0 Doormouse Loved the artwork you found at the local market! Would be amazing to hang it in the finished cabin :-) I know a mild winter would be great for your progress, but it really needs to snow a lot this year to prevent a new drough next summer...
