@@snowblind5020 It's not Torino, Torino is much larger and it's hidden by the mountains on the left, as it is north of Val Pellice. I guess those are some smaller towns of the Po Valley at the base of the Alps, such as Bibiana or Cavour (in some daily footage you could actually see the "Rocca di Cavour", a very peculiar hill in the middle of the plain: it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocca_di_Cavour, only in Italian, sorry)

It’s getting cold here in Canada, and I can’t imagine not feeling well and living in a tent in this weather. No such thing as just hunkering down in bed and resting in the warmth. You have to go out in the cold to meet every need. You’ve been working so hard, Martin, and we sit in our recliners and cheer you on. But maybe once the roof is on, you need to go back to the Netherlands for a month or more, and give yourself a break. Rest. You deserve it. The work will still be there when you return. From an Oma who cares!

Even though cats hunt, they need the nutrition that comes from food we supply them. Eating nothing but protein supplied by mice/rats, their lives are shorter if they don't get their food supplemented. With winter coming it would be a good idea for you to feed the cat. They come for the food and help to keep the mouse population down. So please supplement the cat's food and maybe a warm blanket out of the the weather to be warm, especially during storms.

The combination of your edits, shot angles layered with the aural richness of some of your scenes sometimes catch me off guard and remind me of how masterfully you present these videos. The overhead of your working on the gables and the shot from behind as you go see the cows especially with its the musical underlay I mention as examples. Real happy to know you have a local stone roofer to advise, you’ll only have one shot to get it right for the next 100 years.

Good news getting a tradesman for advice and on site. Your methodical approach and getting advice is helping you move along nicely. The more advice you can get from local tradesman the better, they know the conditions, the materials and the regulations, and most importantly, do this work everyday, for years. One thing I have learned as a tradesman myself, is that each trade has a VAST depth of knowledge required, and unlike yourself, those without these skills usually have no idea or respect for what is required. We have a saying in Australia about “weekend warriors” and how the purchase of a circular saw instantly turns a city accountant into a master builder who knows more than the tradesmen who come to fix his mistakes. Keep up the good work mate!

A feral cat maybe? I tamed one as a kitten. It had a broken leg that hadn't set properly and at first it spat and growled, but I kept leaving it food. It was 6 weeks before I could touch it but now it is a real treasure, very affectionate. Sleeps outside, keeps the property rodent and stoat-free and also helps keep rabbit numbers down during baby rabbit season.

I cannot thank you enough for the deep pleasure your videos bring, Martijn 😊 Only sorry that you are not quite 100% at the moment, especially with the need to finish the walling before winter makes roofing too difficult. It’s so interesting to see how you are constantly working out better, more efficient ways of working without loosing the rustic simplicity of your project. So glad you’ll be having some company and extra help shortly. My family lived in a remote valley in the West Country some years ago. After Christmas people would sometimes drop off their unwanted cats, who had grown beyond the cute kitten stage, at the end of the valley. It took my husband several days of wiley temptations to encourage Tomas, a big but battered Tom cat to let him help. Finally he gave in…moved in…. and lived happily ever after. Every time of the day or night Tomas could be heard purring steadily as he curled up in the corner with our two cairn terriers. Quiet company can be comforting. Thank you so very much for the joy you bring to us all, no matter where in the world we live or whatever language we speak. Your beautiful work speaks directly through our minds into our hearts. That is a treasure behind measure. 😊

You need to purchase another load of wood. It doesn’t appear that you have enough to heat your tent for the winter. Always have more than you need. You could use the sheet metal from your building that you no longer need to build an open sided shed to store all of your wood under to keep it dry. Build it larger than you think you will need. You can store your wheel barrow and other tools under it to protect from the winter, even your trailer.

As a remote audience, watching vicariously, we can only imagine the effort, dedication and discomfort you endure to restore those two old buildings and present your journey to us. As an aircraft/avionics engineer living in New Zealand I've enjoyed the research you've done to prepare the way and resolve problems to fine tune your vision. Martijn, thanks so much for the video. "Beautifully exposed" was so apt to describe the chapel! The lights in the valley at night was worth this video. Thanks for the inspiration, industry, and love of life you illustrate for us all. Love these!

Hello from my corner in urban Canada. I so look forward to seeing your video and drone shots that take me away to a beautiful vista I can only dream about. You are so inspiring with your work ethic and positive attitude. You are amazing! I hope you get your health attended to as you have some challenging months ahead and shouldn't be away from help in the winter. Keep up your work and your spirits and I look forward to seeing the extended video you are working on. Stay well!

Very well said! I don't think Martijn realizes the impact he has on his viewers. In this day and time to have him show his meekness, patience, and reward for hard work is wonderful! I hope many young people tune in and soak up the goodness Martijn has to offer. 💚

I've always loved the 'looking rock' as i named it 😂 but on a small screen i never realised there was a city below! Now on a big screen and the night shot, i see it and its beautiful too.

Look after yourself Martijn and maybe have a wee break. You will need to be on your best game to complete the roof. Really looking forward to seeing it completed and the smoke coming out of the chimney. I love watching your journey in the Winter, its so beautiful (all seasons are beautiful) .

Aww, what a gorgeous video Martijn, hope you feel better soon. Nice to have a cat around. One found me last year, she was starving, and became my good friend. We adopted her eventually.

Wonderful films you make Martijn! I loved the drone shot where you walked past the gap in the trees. Also the moon and the lit tent scene is just magic. Cheers from Bristol, UK.

Hey Martijn, love it. But you shouldn't rip off these mushrooms with roots, just cut them next time (like every other). They will grow again in the same place. Cheers from Tenerife.

And not good to turn mushrooms upside down as dirt falls into gills. Cut to harvest and leave roots in the ground 👍😁

Even though you're definitely not feeling your best, you are getting very close to ensuring that cabin/house will last for decades which must be very satisfying. Improvising the splitter for tinder should help keep you occupied splitting the tinder without causing harm to fingers and arms. The roof expansion was certainly needed, and no matter how hot the shower water could have been, showering in snow isn't pleasant. As for the cat, see if you can find some way to give it shelter too. It will need water and food supplement and in return your own food will be safer. Tradeoff for both of you..

The stones in the lower floor were placed vertically to compensate for frost heaving, as well as making the floor stable for the weight of the animals. The arches on that very old building were made by building an archway support using wood, then you may notice that, again, the stones were placed vertically, providing both support against each one as well as maintaining the strength of the arch itself. Both techniques are extremely old.
