I randomly watch TOTP just to give me a smile and remember when music was inclusive and enlightened me to the worldwide struggles of innocent people. Music then brought different people together. I was reared on black music artists, and those white musicians who supported and emulated them. Blues, Jazz, soul, disco, ska, reggae was what brought us together. I too had issues and i'm not a celiac and with the rising levels of mental health issues, i think he has a point that this is bad as it also lowers vitamin absorption and that's a bad thing. EXACTLY. Read the lyrics, but substitute the word Love with the name of Jesus - who IS Love - and it All is Still true and makes perfect sense. She was a bit ahead of her time. She came on the scene right after Tiffany and Debbie Gibson had dominated the charts. And although Martika was vastly more talented than the other two, her music was almost too serious, complex and advanced for the demographic. She was still incredibly young and fell between the bubble gum pop listeners and adults. Granted she's said that it was her choice to disappear from the industry but I would have liked to have seen her stay around for a lot longer than she did.

This song will be in my life forever. My girlfriend a ng time ago had bulimia, a psychological sickness, pretty mean & hard. I did, everything to help her out from this world, always were very active to bring her on other thoughts to win over this dark world, went to shrink with her, studied the sickness and always brought her to laugh even if I were down or head with sorrows. I wrote to our local radio station a huge letter, explained where we are going true & asked if they could maybe play, this song for her (it is "our song" :) ). One evening they interrupted the radio program, said that they were so touched from my letter, and read there, what I wrote for, her, and this song, were, for her.. since then her mom calls me her son :) we won over the sickness.. this is now 17 years ago and I still have, a swarm of butterflies in my belly :D

andy fish Thank you, very kind. Most people can even imagine how hard that was and are those sicknesses. Everybody told me to get out of that relationship, even her psychologist told me better to, run away, but i refused. :) Love is the biggest power...

Beautiful, beautiful song. A forgotten gem from the early 90s which would bring a tear to a glass eye. Martika is best known for Toy Soldiers, another great song, but this is arguably better. Such a shame her career did not last longer as she clearly had talent. "Make me strive for the glorious and divine" one of my all time favourite lyrics.

peepingtom20101 to be fair, Martika walked away from the spotlight for a while after releasing her 2nd album, basically stating that she needed to away from the music scene for a while As she'd stated in an an episode of the VH1 series "Where are they now" " I'd had things done for me pretty much all the time and I needed to be able to do things for myself, things like doing my own laundry and such" (I was kinda paraphrasing that, but she'd said something to that effect)

I’m still listening in 2022! Martika + Prince’s composition of the music = BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!! Omg, what a legendary song. I can’t imagine what it would be like to read Martina’s prayer & imagine up the music to make it FABULOUS. Prince has his version on KZbin to the EXACT SAME music track minus 1 instrumental moment in the song. I imagine it was his demo to her in how he imagined it to be sung. It’s the EXACT SAME music track - just Prince singing it as she did to the letter. That 1 instrument that lacked at first did enhance it. I remain in awe. I have the CD from Martika & the 45rpm of this song.
