Hallelujah.... Thank you Martin Lewis. At last someone has called out Rachel Reeves for saying pensioners will get a £470 rise in April, and Starmer says that too. The majority are on the old pension and will get £360. I wish someone would say it to her face.

Stamp duty, no warning given, it was implemented the next day=I withdrew my offer on a property. From £7200 stamp duty went up to £12k on a £240k property.

They are killing the property market, so they want to obliterate landlords and flood the market, they then assume this will drive property prices down therefore claiming additional stamp duty tax, which is tax on money we have already paid tax on. Basically they are robbing money from the seller.

So that's £7200 of tax revenue the government isn't collecting in your individual case. I can see which way this is going and it isn't pretty.

Sick of people moaning about farmers. They are allowed to hand down £2,000,000 tax free and they want working class people to feel sorry for them? If a nurse works hard they couldnt dream of getting that sort of money and certainly couldnt give it all to their kids tax free. If a poor farmer has got over 2 million in assets, theyre richer than 99.9% of the population they should do what other people do if they are living outside of their means- sell styff

@rosso2017
@rosso2017 Ай бұрын
@@ilikelampshades6with respect you are ill-informed. A farm is not a personal asset, yet for inheritance tax purposes is being increasingly treated as one. That’s the reason the exemptions have always existed- to encourage farmer families to continue farming through generations. If children have to pay an inheritance charge to inherit the farmland, more and more farmers will be lost. Since we’re already losing farmers every day, where are you going to get your food? Not rocket science is it- you’ll be here complaining that the food prices inevitably go up when we have less farmers, probably moaning about some BS about greedy farmers
@ilikelampshades6
@ilikelampshades6 Ай бұрын
@rosso2017 Thanks for the explanation someone else also commented on another comment section explaining this. In the past, I've viewed a farm as a house and huge garden rather than a business. So it makes sense now. Are most farms owned via private limited company? Because I'm sure you would have to pay tax if you tried to pass down a public limited company or sole-trader company. Also, if a farmer had to sell off a chunk of his farm due to inheritance tax, would this not give another aspiring farmer the opportunity to purchase the land, thus generating opportunity? I hate the tax system in this country, the employed people on PAYE are getting absolutely fleeced left, right and centre with taxes and low wages. We never get any tax breaks, investments, incentives, cannot write things off against our tax bill etc etc. It's been agony under the Tories, losing huge amounts of our salaries whilst working harder than ever. It does need a massive re-balance and I can't help but think it is the businesses that need to bare the brunt for the next 20 years as its been those on PAYE who have suffered so much since the 70s. Personally, this is the best budget I've seen in my lifetime but that's very much because I'm PAYE.

It should also be considered that you don’t get warm home discount even on low benefits if your home isn’t scored the way they deem that it meets the criteria. So it’s not just about pensioners, it’s about those on disability under pension age too

@@overthemoon34 It is my first home, I just happened to be able to cobble together enough cash to buy a house that came on the market I really wanted, so had to bid quickly. Left me totally skint until I sell my first home. Had hoped to do some work (that is really needed) before I moved in but with this overnight stamp duty rise will have to move in and do the work around me when I move and after I sell. I will be able to claim the stamp duty back after I sell my first home but really needed that cash that has been taken by the overnight rise. I thought the changes would have been from the beginning of the next tax year, but no, an overnight rise.

If inflation is 5%, and your income/pension increase is 5%, but Personal Tax Allowance does not change, you get 4% net - so you CANNOT cover the cost of your previous normal spend. If inflation on basic essentials is more than 5%, then it is worse still for low earners and pensioners - the Personal Allowance has been static for the past 4 years, so the poor have become even poorer, year by year - and they know it !

BUT INCOME TAX PAYMENTS ARE ALSO GOING UP FOR EVERYONE !!! As the Personal Allowance for 2025-26 is being kept the same as 2024-25 at £12,570 .(has not increased since 2021) So if there is an annual "inflational", incremental or promotional increase in your pension or worked income, then you will pay MORE tax (either at 20% or 40% dependant on your new income level) on ALL of the increase.

Well Martin Lewis, what is the contradiction here is that inspite of all Reeves's promises, they've increased employers' NI which is a tax on working people if you bother to think this through properly, and, where the heck is the growth element in this budget. Can't see it? That's because there is none. And by the way, I've paid in all 35 years's worth of my NI contributions and this lot still won't pay even three quarters of the full state pension, so you're not telling people the truth either .... thanks for nothing.
