He had such a good deadpan sense of humor. He always said that when he was joining a sitcom, it usually meant they were either ending soon or would be cancelled. He is missed.

As a teenager, I made sure I stayed up to see Martin on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He'd bring out an easy chair, talk, play music, and sing like this - with the end result of making you laugh He was a natural entertainer making it look so easy and so innovative. His jokes never went in the direction you thought they might - which made them all the more funny. He made this world a better place, for damn sure.

There are so many levels of emotion watching this, not only because of Martin's passing, but in this movie, which was about the history of National Lampoon, Mull was playing an older (never was) version of Lampoon co-creator Doug Kenney. (Kenney having died young in 1980 after falling off a cliff in Hawaii.) It was as if Kenney's ghost had come down, at the age he would be been had he lived, to let everyone know he was OK (especially when many still think Doug may have committed suicide due to the initial underperformance of Caddyshack in theaters.) Rest in Piece to Martin Mull and Doug "What the hell we supposed to do, ya moron!" Kenney.

I'm very saddend I've always admired Martin's film and TV roles, a wonderful actor! A man of many talents; musican and artist. As a kid in the UK in the 90s and 00s his comic timing was perfect and he was hilarious as Mr. Kraft in STTW! His paintings are beautiful too! What a sad loss to the world, which is now a less wonderful place without him! A perfect gentlemen Rest in eternal peace Sir! Fly high!

OMG...thanks for posting...also THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS MOVIE. i grew up a kid who discovered National Lampoon magazine when id find it at garage sales and like so many kids of the late 70s/early 80s fell in love with the movies. also i had a fondness for Bored of the Rings which it wasnt till years later that i connected. Doug Kenney was always on my radar but it wasnt until your movie and recent docs that i got to really learn about him, Henry, and the crew. Martin Mull was PERFECT in it (as usual). Thanks for posting and RIP to the man.

…in the 1970s my friend Roy and i, fans of Fernwood and Sex & Violins, drove the 3 1/2 hours to Toronto, without tickets, and bullshitted our way into Massey Hall, to stand by an entrance door to the left of the stage and watched Colleen Peterson open for Martin and his Fabulous Furniture, and then turned around and drove the 3 1/2 hours back home in pure elation…

Went to see him in '74 or '75...he was opening for some other act...Springstein, Springstoon...something...anyway, my friend and I were there for Marty. He had his fabulous furniture and everything on stage. The crowd wasn't into him at first...by the end he had everyone tapping their quarters on their armrests to the tune "Flexible". It was a tough crowd, but he won them over! Then that other guy came on..."The Foreman" or whatever. He was okay. My friend and I left after a few songs...we came to see Marty. Wonder what ever happened to that other guy?
