Wow, Just now seeing this. I saw you play at the musician's hall in Peoria, IL probably late 70s early 80s. I had the pleasure of knowing Bill Barker and took a few lessons from him. He was a great teacher.

Great stories. I chased the perfect instrument for me my whole life. After a few custom builds a couple came close but still lacked something. I thought I would never experience the thrill of owning a guitar perfect for me. I was wrong. Enter Matt Eich of Mule Resophonic Guitars. He built a tricone steel body for me that feels like an extension of me. Sold all the other instruments, and my Mule will one day be passed on as a family heirloom for many decades.

MARTIN TAYLOR ?

Thank you for showing us around Martin, from one guitar player to another. Ok we love guitars. Problem, few incl. wives understand, plus the ever present guilt factor. 'Extravagance' etc. etc... How about this? Does an artist paint with just one brush? Heard that or got another for us? Ps. I love the Masterpiece Guitars CD. Also love to know what other instruments you have too? I once thought that the more guitars one has, the lesser the player. Now not so sure! Peace and Love.

Thank you for sharing. I am a hobbyist luthier. It would be interesting to know the weights of the archtops. In the literature there is much difference in weights from 4.6lbs to 8.2lbs for archtop guitars. Based on the demonstration and published size + weight of an instrument, one can make decent guesses on how the instrument is built (bracing, thickness of top and back etc). Weight details would be great information for those of us who like to make archtop guitars.

I think all of us could scream over guitars lost, but I, too, had a Barker, at the recommendation of Mary Osborne who I got to hang out with. Want to scream every time I think of having to let it go because of money. All is true-like a nice pair of comfortable shoes, the minute you play it, you feel 'at home'...Darn it...

Dear Fred, truer words have been never said. One day the wife said `choose one and sell it'. Then a few more times and now there's nothing left- like dead friends. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't get married!

Hi Martin, you inserted a key to your room and opened a door, but you forgot to take that key from the key hole, didn't you? Just felt a bit strange by leaving your key in key hole.. I guess it is a fault of director or producer of this clip, isn't it? :)

You story about Val Doonican reminded me of hanging out in Johnnie Smiths music store on Saturday afternoons. Johnnie was always behind the counter noodling around on his D'Angelico, smoking his pipe and telling stories about his career. He eventually sold the D'Angelico and used the proceeds to buy an airplane. He claimed he never received an penny in royalties for his recording of Moonlight in Vermont blaming unscrupulous mangers and record companies.
