Thank you for your lovely review! This song always hits hard, and it should. While she didn't write the song Martina McBride had something very similar happen in her own family, her sister Gina abused her niece Angela Carter after her divorce - the abuse led to Angela's death, Martina dedicated the song to Angela. Another touching, but heart wrenching, song in a similar vein is Alyssa Lies by by John Michael Carroll. While these song can cause anguish they have great meaning and shine a light on a horrible problem that helps bring awareness. Also, Martina has several great songs. She has spent her career calling attention to things that many other artists generally shy away from, even in country.

This song brings back so much bad memories for me. When I was young I was in a foster home for a little while. This song really hits me. In that foster home I was abused. If any school official noticed anything different they did not say or ask me I had a real good friend that was a student that asked me if I was ok. At first I said yes I was ok. But he did not believe me. And he was right Anyway I finally told him the stuff that happened to me at the foster home. Well thank God for him because not long after that they took me out of that foster home. It's been so many years ago around 50 or so. But this song hit me very hard but I love this song.

if you watch it again, please pay attention to the little boy in the window, as she is being beaten, he looks up to heaven as if looking to God to take her away from her pain then at her funeral he disappears through the people into a bright light, and she is there on the other side he was her guardian angel.

This really happens. Me and my two brothers were abused. In july of 1976 we watched our dad beat our middle brother off and on for several hours. He was stripped naked and bloody head to toe. I remember him crying out... "daddy please don't kill me !" and he was only about 11. I can still picture what he was wearing that day.

I genuinely feel your pain. It was terrible in my house. I went to bed many nights, sleeping on my stomach, so my bloody back wouldn't stick to the sheets...and to this day, 60 years later, I wear a t-shirt when I go swimming. I have to, to avoid the horrified stares.
