@martinbuilt Just got the timing cover off. Your video was a great help! Especially showing what bolts to leave water pump on. I was surprised by how much coolant came pouring out. Be sure to have a large tray & a pan. I tried removing engine block drain bolt but wouldn't turn. Was afraid of it breaking. Though there is no place for gaskets that I can see on my Jeep 2005. 4.7L. Just seeing some old brittle remains of gasket material along inside edges.

@@martinbuilt I bought the gasket but ended up using the silicone because the gasket didn’t allow the cover to sit tightly up to the centering dowels and against the engine block. I was also concerned that the thickness of the gasket would set the cover further out and since the accessories all mount to the cover I was concerned the serpentine belt wouldn’t be in line with the crankshaft pulley. Anyway it’s all back together and back to the customer.

I know this is an older vid, but it's new to me. I recently bought an 04 Jeep Liberty Sport w/ 3.7L VIN K for the wife. I'm going to have to do and engine swap on it. So before I drop the new-ish motor in I figured it would be be best if I changed out some of the hard to reach parts and gaskets before I put it in. Does this video apply to my particular application? Also, the "new to me" motor has about 105K miles on it. Would you recommend changing all the timing chains, guides, tensioners, idlers, ect.? I do remember reading somewhere that those items are "supposed" to be good for the "life" of the vehicle/motor. If these are just plain old dumb*ss questions, I do apologize for my ignorance on the topic of this specific make and engine. This is the first Jeep/Chrysler product I've owned. It's also the first time I've worked on this particular engine. All of my experience is with Chevrolet and Ford, aside from normal maintenance and brake jobs, alternators, ect. Thank You Sir for your time and effort. I appreciate it more than you know!! Hope everyone that reads this is or has a great day. More importantly, Y'all be safe out there!! Never forget rule number one, as far as working in a shop goes. The goal for today is to NOT die and leave with the same number of digits we showed up with.

I would replace the hydraulic tensioner. It could be clogged.

hey man, thanks for the videos, watching a lot of them, awesome job!. similar paths, 02 dokota, 89 Xj, but you have me on the grand. I need to change the head gasket on the dakota. 70k miles. should i do all the timing chains, gears and tensioners? see a lot of videos with them broken. If I do, the timing chain cover will have to come off, if not wondering if I can change the gasket without removing the chain cover. Maybe hold the chain up when remove head? maybe? thoughts? dont see any head removal videos from you. thanks

The torque specs for the 3.7 should be identical to the 4.7. The only real difference between the 2 engines is that the 3.7 has a balanced shaft.
