It would be really cool if they independently weighed them. I know some brands (Motegi and Rotiform for example) list their shipping weight (full packaging in box) rather than the weight of the wheel itself. I'd like to see what some of these actually weigh.

This was a tricky one to talk about but we truly want to build a place that's honest, fair, and still kickass to buy car parts from. I hope ya'll enjoy it! PS. This is also a friendly reminder that replica design does NOT mean poorly made. The same way an ORIGINAL design does not mean it was made well. Construction matters as well which is why we have filters for both! Love ya'll, let me know what we should talk about next!

So your happy to pay TE37 price's for Chinga Knock off's??? Rep to my understanding is CHINGA... 2 different countries of origin. 2 different standard of build quality. That's like selling a product made from India and stamping it made in USA. Why not just get the American 100$ bills... copy it and use it like they're real? They're reps, should be same same. Copy Casino chips and use it... Apples and Orange look and taste the same. Even a better example, People is the states Buying a R34 Gts-t, mocking it up to look like a R34 GTR, putting all GTR badges on it and rolling around calling it a R34 GTR. Now you explain that. Genuine vs Rep (Reproduction as you call it)

Really appreciate the emphasis on “construction”. When I’m looking for wheels, that’s the first thing I wanna know! I think to myself “hey, these look good for the money… but how’s it made?” Then comes the Google research and bam, there goes half an hour of my day lol. A+ video!
@atevalve5 ай бұрын
I mean look at Watanabes, Minilites, and Panasports, all pretty much the same design. This is ancient and some are actually super reputable and even legendary at this point. And it's not like every original design is good or quality, sometimes copying a tried and tested formula is better than reinventing the wheel, pardon the pun.
@christopherlowery8555 ай бұрын
Sidenote: I always found the expression "no need to reinvent the wheel" to be amusing. There's been so much wheel innovation over the last century from wagon wheels to solid tires to air tires to spoke wheels, to radials, to even the tweel, in recent history. If anything, history has shown a continued NEED to "reinvent the wheel". I find the notion of it not being necessary as a complete joke. The only thing they all have in common is that they're round. Like anything else that rotates in place. Just a bit of irony to brighten everyone's day. Cheers.

You guys should add how much concavity a wheel has or what “face” it has, its very rare to find a site that shows them.
@58rr5 ай бұрын
I agree 100% with everything in this video. I will add though, if you find yourself wanting to swap in and out of different wheels often and IF you can afford the “real” wheels comfortably. Get the real wheels. They’ll retain value if kept in good condition much better when you go to sell them. Also you can save money by just buying the cast version of a wheel. Volk & Gram Lights are both made by Rays. Volk is forged and Gram Lights are cast saving you tons of money. GL often have an equivalent design to their forged cousins.

The most important aspect for a rep wheel is: -what plans do you have for the car? -what is you real budget considering montly bills and income. Whats the damn purpose of $2k and more wheels just to have the car stanced? Or to not even touge the mountains you locally have around tour city? If you car is just to show why bother spending money on wheels like you are about to go race it in the next season? 🤣🤣🤣

Any opinions on Rota wheels. Thinking out getting a set because they come in sizes that work better for my car
@tristantuyn87035 ай бұрын
Go for it, they aren't bad wheels, great price point and they look good. Just don't act like it's the real stuff (like putting center caps or stickers on it from the brand what the real wheel is.) However, I'd also consider finding a second hand set of real wheels for the same price. Because imo second hand real wheels get a lot more respect from me then new reps. For example : I just sold a new set of rota wheels and bought a set of real bbs'es that needed some work. Because I value having real wheels more than having a nice set of reps

Hello from the Philippines. My E36 316i (s52 swapped supercharged) had rep M3 E46 wheels, then I bought real Volk RE30s 18x8 which is the best wheel ever. I felt bored then bought Fifteen52 turbomacs 17x8 as a spare wheel setup, loved those too but it was very heavy and sold it. As I got older I recently bought Work Wheels S1 Meisters 3pc 18x8.5 and this is my end game. I still kept my RE30s. For me, wheels depends if you can afford it, reps are not so bad. Buy what makes you happy as long you are not in debt.

Alright Alex, you finally earned yourself a sub. This was so very well said. It covered pretty much every angle of this topic. It was fair and to the point. Everything said here was spot on. It was about as objective of an assessment as possible. Completely agree, build your car for you. Well done. That being said, I'd really like to see a fitment video. One that shows how to measure/determine fitment. A video that covers measurements and tackling things like the mysterious offset figure. Like you said, wheels are a big investment for most. It's good to have confidence in the product purchased, rather than making the fitment right with things like spacers/shims, wide body kits, etc. What convinced me I didn't need to spend $4k on forged wheeles, and could instead settle on flow forged, was Donut and their failure to do any significant damage to the flow forged wheel they tried to destroy. So yeah, ~$1500 will do most of us right unless we're running over floorjacks in the middle of the highway at 70mph. At that point, I don't even think forged wheels will save you. Great vid, love to see it. Will be checking out the website if I need wheels in the future. (Which I will). Cheers.

For myself I wouldn’t mind buying a replica wheel, because I personally don’t make the kind of money to buy some real original wheels that cost $2k+ for a set if it’s a 1-piece design. It would take me at least 2 or 3 income tax returns!! As long as I do my research before buying on that particular company brand I’m okay with that. I 100% agree that you should build your build for yourself and what you want. Stop building cars for others or to be a social media build. Because those people aren’t driving your car, paying for your gas, your insurance, etc. etc. who cares what others think about your car build.. I mean if you’re a KZbin’r or have a big channel and that’s how you make your money then you do whatever you want boo boo. That’s just my personal opinion. Keep up the great videos and work for us martiniWorks

Ran a total of three different aftermarket wheels for my old 350Z. First being the XXR 530 at 18x9.75 +20 (bought used from original owner of T-Pain Pickle Rick 240) and had it from 2019 till I sold t his year. Second set was Cosmis XT006-R in staggered (18x9.5 +10 18x11 +8 on 255/40F 275/40R) and loved the wheel design and at the price I paid for them ($300) and done wheel repaired and painted them myself before trading them for a set of ESR CS11 (19x10.5 +22 squared on 275/35r19). To this day, I'd run any of these brands of wheels again in my current lineup of cars (searching for my Z32 2+2 NA-T).

Imagine sending $4k in a wheels set up and brag about it, then curb rash them while getting out of a car meet after where you bragged. Use common sense, get something mid-tier and spend the rest of the money in others areas. Best place to spend the extra cash is in "seat time" at your local track
