Thank you - it was a lifetime ambition to ride the L and it was great. Even managed to secure a hotel room overlooking the tracks!

Rafsan Ahmed yea but the only difference is that the cta has 8 lines and the NYC Mta has 22 lines plus they operate 24/7.

Idk, to be honest I think MTA is much cleaner. But maybe it's just because I usually take green and red line.
@bmendez3782

SSS sss ok first that's not true because I'm from New York myself and you have subway stations that smell like garbage and shit due the sewers braking sometimes not to mention the homeless people stinking up parts of the subway trains due to them using it ass their homes and beds during the day and night smh.

But really I live in Chicago and I can tell you that the CTA trains use velvet padded chairs (most of their train is, except the brown line i think). You can't see if there are anything dirty on it, and you can't tell if its wet. Lots of people pissed on the train too, you can constantly smell it. Lived in NYC (Queens) last winter. I am pretty happy with the MTA there. Large cars clean seats, quieter than CTA too.

SSS sss then in that case im guessing you must've lived here for a short time and still not yet know anything about the subway system because ive been here all my life and been riding the subway system all my life so i know about it way more than you do and for you to tell me that that subway system is clean when it isnt its just stupid.

it must be loud in the houses also, this train line seemsreally slow, and why are the stations this near to each other?
@MartinMiller1
@MartinMiller1 9 жыл бұрын
+Bracci It is a delight to hear and the stations are close to serve the various areas in the centre of Chicago. Very sharp curves have an effect on speed I would think together with the close spacing of trains. To someone from England the "L" is the eighth wonder of the World!

The L system was built in the 1890-1900s. To compete for riders against street cars(trams) they built stations every 2 blocks since the streetcars stopped at every block. It may be loud but you get used to it. A little inconvenience is the price to pay for cheap public transit.

The loop itself is slow, outside of there it gets much faster.

Is there a regional rail in the U.S that uses Indian gauge tracks?

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to that one

Almost all rail and transit in the US uses standard gauge, 4' 8 1/2". Only the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART) uses 5' 6", like much of India. The streetcars of San Francisco run on standard gauge tracks, except for the cable cars, which use 3' 6" gauge. That was a common gauge on cable systems in the West, found in Seattle, Denver, Los Angeles, and other cities. When these cities electrified their lines, the trolleys usually continued running on this narrow gauge. In Philadelphia, the streetcars and the Broad Street subway use Pennsylvania gauge, 5' 2 1/4", so-called because many street railways in the state were required to use a gauge not compatible with steam railroads. The Market-Frankfort subway/elevated, however, uses standard gauge. In New Orleans, the streetcars run on a track gauged at 5' 2 1/2", only a quarter inch wider than Philadelphia's. Many streetcar lines in the Southern United States ran on 5' gauge, which was the common railroad gauge in the South prior to 1886, when they were converted to standard gauge to facilitate interchange with the rest of the rail network.

Although I think this elevated railway is a nice idea, and it should not be removed. It seems that it has about the same journey time as a tram and is more difficult for people to travel on. (Lots of stairs) So trams kind of make it obsolete. Also the noise must be horrific, I can put up with a regular train line, but these make twice the amount of noise because they are raised, and the trains run every two minutes...

Tanki Divide I guess so... but in my opinion the noise didn’t bother me. Probably because I lived by one of the lines so I’m used to it
@packr72
@packr72 5 жыл бұрын
Tanki Divide The L exists because the trams Chicago had in the 1890s weren’t good enough to relieve congestion. Trams get stuck in traffic, the L doesn’t. Trams are gone in Chicago while the L is still here.

CTA uses shorter trains on the weekends to save money on operations costs. Red and Blue are pretty much 8 cars 24/7.
