I have a very shallow pitcher pump for washing water and haul my drinking water from a spring about a mile away. No lakes close by and so no other people either

"what do you do all day?" thee number one question I get since moving up to my cabin in Upstate NY. I respond with , "what do you do all day?" and it seems to make them ponder a bit and realize it's not such a great question. Another favorite answer of mine is, "anything I want", and that shuts them up.lol

Hello Mihalis, This cabin in in northern Minnesota. Private parcels like this are hard to find in the more remote places. Most of the land is state or federal as years ago much of it was tax forfeited by the early homesteaders.

Martin, do you ever burn those brush piles?

No I never burn except in the cabin yard where I know it is all sand under the fire. The peat is close to the surface in many areas and it is possible to start it burning. If I make a small fire for a brat roast extra care is taken to make sure it is out cold. In a year where the water table is at the surface I will burn as the fire can't go down at all.
