Youthanasia is indeed underrated! I pimp this album as an intro to Megadeth for the uninitiated. You are right, awesome riffs and harmonies. Plus Family Tree is a super sad and creepy song and lyrically the album feels one of the most honest/introspective of their catalog. This solo is well beyond my current skill level, but Ima gonna try a lick or two. Thanks Benjamin!

Youthanasia was most definitely a great follow up to Countdown (my personal favorite) and most definitely under rated. Fun fact from a Megageek: the original pressing of the album in 1994 was, in fact, entirely a perfect half step down. Only on the 2004 reissue did some of the tunings get wonky.

The official youthanasia tab book had the album in the weird 1/4 step tuning
@PhantomLord1145 жыл бұрын
Andy M A word of caution on tablature books. They’re not always 100% accurate, whether it be in notation or album details. Off the top of my head, Elysian Fields, The Killing Road, and Blood of Heroes were the three songs affected on the reissue. You ought to be able to find the original versions here on YT
@kommissar.murphy5 жыл бұрын
How did that happen? Was it played a half step down, or was it lowered in the mastering phase?
@PhantomLord1145 жыл бұрын
@@kommissar.murphy I can only guess, but there's some really cool footage from the making of the Youthanasia album that can also be found here on KZbin. Any shots from the studio itself has the guitars tuned a half step down, and it also seems to me that they recorded the album to tape rather than digitally. It's possible that the tape could've been sped up in the remastering process, which could explain the tuning issues.
@brandenrobinson94115 жыл бұрын
I know you were up against a (self-imposed?) length limit on this video, but I for one always appreciate hearing harmonic analysis, both with respect to the phrases in the part being played and with the underlying accompaniment. We got some of that in this video, but I wouldn't mind seeing MOAR. Theory ain't just for jazz heads and people who liked the "What a Fool Believes" and Steely Dan videos! :D

@haveagoodone58304 жыл бұрын
Tuning seems to be set at reference pitch A=444 Hz. If you use your Kemper tuner you'll see notes are approximately 15 cents flat of the usual tuning, but when I change the pitch to 444 Hz, the Kemper says it's in tune or about 1 cent flat, which is perfect.
