I heard Marty play a sweet beautiful snare-like mandolin chop all evening long ago when he was part of Lester Flatt and the Nashville Grass, back when I was maybe 11. Lester didnt feel well and sat the whole show but sounded great. Around 2 hours in, he introduced young Marty and said they had to get him back to school by Monday morning and drew a laugh. Then, he asked Marty to pick for the folks, and I mean he let it fly and cut it hard and high like Bill Monroe did when he was young. Held the Mandolin up even with his hat into the vocal mic and just burned it down. He is one of the most tasteful and gifted musicians we have ever had❤
