Well, this is a good version to play, and a well made and to-the-point tutorial as always from Marty. I will say though, if you want to play it just like Johnny Ramone, there are three key details. - All downstrokes, no upstrokes. Strumming pattern varied through the years. - Johnny Ramone fretted a full 6 string barre in all the chords, he didn't mute out the low E string or avoid strumming it in the A shapes. - That B chord at the 2nd fret is B minor. You can hear it in the isolated guitar track or see it in live footage. I'll tab it out below; 2 (barre) 2 (barre) 4 (ring finger) 4 (pinky) 3 (middle finger) 2 (barre) Strum however many strings sounds right to your ear, but you can genuinely hit all 6 throughout the song if your technique/tone is close enough to Johnny's. Not really trying to self advertise, but I do have a guitar cover up with tabs in the description if you want to see/hear a real example of all this. The downstrokes are important though, because they naturally emphasize the sound of the bottom strings. Upstrokes create too much twang on the top strings. I do encourage anyone to play the guitar however they like (that's punk), but I thought I'd share the extra details for any Ramones fans who want to do it the original way.

Damn, first song I ever learned on guitar. Still my favorite band in the world. And I gotta say, playing Ramones' songs ain't that easy. Constant downstrokes and bar chords and the speed.

greatest way to build "playing endurance" - first get it down to where you can play it once COMPLETELY (in time, no mistakes - very hard in beginning) then play it a handful of times at end of practice when you THINK you are already fatigued... build endurance quick - and great way to get back in, "playing shape" after time off getting old sucks

For the record, Johnny Ramone, a super limited player, was nevertheless very precise and disciplined. 100% of the time he played: a) Downstrokes only. b) In a precise precise rhythmic pattern. He didn't "mix it up". c) Barre chords. Never power chords. I'm all for people playing things their own way, but if anyone is specifically interested in Johnny's technique, try these two channels: woodyamsterdam, and Hardley Ramone.

@LetsGoMetsGo333 жыл бұрын
@@rackaid14 Oh wow, mind blown, just watched some old video and see that you're right. I've been playing the chord on the E for decades assuming that was Johnny's way... I guess b/c I learned the principle of moving between those two chord shapes in a way that minimized jumping around the fretboard from him. Thanks for the correction. I edited that assertion out of my OP- no need for me to give out false info.
