@ my wife doesn't hate guitars... she just fundamentally disagrees with me on how many guitars is a sensible number of guitars to own!
@trailryder58134 жыл бұрын
@@SteveMallam There is no sensible number of guitars that is a fallacy propagated by people who don't understand. But simple question for the women in your life when they say you don't need another guitar. Just ask them what is a sensible number of shoes to own? Then they try to point out the cost of shoe's compared to your guitars but by then you can already be on reverb bidding on your next guitar and invoking the husband hearing.
@SteveMallam4 жыл бұрын
Trailryder my definition of “sensible” is always “one more than I have now”, but I agree in principle. That said, I’m also a runner so I probably have more shoes than her too 🤣

So the gear is important until it's not. Then the technique is essential until you realize how many dopes bombed out of their heads wrote simple riffs that caught on. Then songwriting becomes everything until everything sounds the same. The path to guitar god winds up behind a drum kit these days. Drummers have the best girlfriends. Bassists have the best stories. Banjo players have the most fun. Fiddlers have the best tunes. Piano players know the most theory. Guitarists have the most competition. It's music. It's magic. It's emotion of the mind in sensory form.

This brings back memories of my first semester at Berklee College of Music. And by the way, the male to female student ratio was 17 to 1. I heard Keith Richards in an interview say you should start with just the guitar, no effects, no fancy gear. That helped me enormously. Also Eddie Van Halen said that his playing style is originally based in the fact that he couldn’t afford pedals and such, so he developed other ways to make the guitar sound and perform as he wanted.
