Nice job Marty! I had a 66 Ford Galaxie 500 two years out of high school back in 1975. I bought the car from a high school kid who made some modifications. He added mag tires used back then, dual thrust hush exhaust and did the car in blue metal flake paint. Oh and jacked up just a little in the back . That car was the bomb! We went everywhere in it. Those were the days. Nice job Marty!

I bought one at the local drug store that carried Matchbox cars. I still have it. And 60 or so others. Like a lot of people, I wish I would have kept the boxes. I do have a few. But when you're 9 years old, who cared about the box ? I also have several engines and other emergency vehicles. I went on to a 20 year career with the Fire Dept. and retired as Captain. Peace to all of you and yours out there from America, and THANK YOU MARTY for the great videos. :)

when i was a kid (40 years ago) I was dropping off some garbage with mum at the local tip and someone had thrown out about 300 empty matchboxes. I should have grabbed them. i DID go through them and found one that was not empty (forklift).

I had the 2 door version of this for real. Loved cruising around in that car. Thanks for bringing back the memories. The "bump" on the driver's side of the grill is the factory emblem you'd see on the real Galaxie 500 XL cars. That's a really nicely detailed die-cast car.

Marty....needless to say, this is on point as usual. One of my fav castings too. It is the first *custom* I ever made back in 1976. I used a pen knife to scratch the britework areas of paint. My first car as luck would have it was a 1965 Galaxie 500. I paid $700 for it. I called her The Beast. 352 Windsor V8 with a Rochester 4 BBL carb. That bump on the front grill was simply badging Lesney saw fit to include on the grill. Just a logo for the car.

One little tip for you mate. When replacing parts that are an awkward shape like the ¼ window and roof was, use a thin, but stiff cardboard to do the outline, even drawing it on the cardboard, rather than trying to cut it. Once you have the shape perfect, you can transfer the shape to the plastic, and cut the shape from the template you just made, and it will be a perfect fit. It's a lot easier to make this way. Also, when darkening red in the future, use a brown instead of a black, and it will tone in mutch better, without altering the hue as much. Adding black should always be reserved for darkening white only. If you want to darken a colour, you should always look on the opposite side of a colour wheel, and add that. To change the tone if a colour, add one of its pyramid colours e.g. imagine the colour you are using is the top of a pyramid, and the two colours at the bottom points are it's light and dark hues. To change the hue, add whatever colour is next to it on a colour wheel. You can get colour wheels anywhere for a couple of bucks. Just a little mess with a cheap watercolour set from the $1 store and it becomes self explanatory. Hope this helps mate.

Aloha from Maui. That little bump on the front grill on the 1965 Ford Galaxy was a identity badge. Some of the badges were "Galaxy 500XL " Badge Ornaments and with the larger engines and more plush interiors there was a "Ford LTD" Badge Ornament. Many of the police vehicles by way of the large displacement engines had the "Ford LTD" Badge.. Aloha

Hi, Marty. Thank you for your amazing videos. Just subscribed after watching them all weekend. I clean and repair a lot of vintage toys and have a suggestion that might come in handy. If I have plastic bits, like the interior of the car here, I will soak them in a glass of water with a denture cleaning & whitening tablet (or two)... It cleans in the grooves and can even remove some of the yellowing. Then I will give the plastic a quick wipe with a car dash protectant wipe and the plastic looks shiny & new. Give it a try sometime. I hope it helps when its need! Cheers!

To straighten the plastic I like to fix the piece of plastic in a glass plate with magnets and then to immerse in hot water. The trick is to let the water cool slowly.

NICE! Yes, the grill badge is supposed to be there, offset. I believe I've also seen them declare the engine size in cubic inches. As for the suspension, you have to work quicker and more aggressively. Exaggerate your bends, and you have to do it within a second of coming out of the hot water. Still a success, better than it was. This model is plentiful and cheap. Endless possibilities. It would look killer in yellow as a Fire Chief car, was also available as #55 Police car, and would also make a cool taxi.

I love how clean and organized your work area is, especially given how mush mess is generated by what you're doing. Even the jar of rivets was clean! I wonder if this is just the way you're wired. For example, is your house the same way, everything clean and in its place? I wish I could be like that, but what a great trait to have in your line of work. The cars you makeover show your meticulous attention to detail, just phenomenal.
