@@thomasjohn32 സത്യം. കുംബനട്ടുകാർ തികഞ്ഞ വിദ്യാസമ്പന്നർ. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ അവർ ലോകത്തിൻ്റെ നാനാ ഭാഗത്തും പോയി ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്നു. അന്തസ്സായി ജീവിക്കുന്നു. അപ്പൻ അമ്മമാരെ സ്നേഹത്തോടെ നോക്കുന്നു. അമേരിക്കയിൽ നിന്ന് വീട് അണയാൻ 21/2 ദിവസം മതി. എന്താണിത്ര വലിയ കാര്യം.? സമാധാനത്തിൽ ജീവിക്കുന്ന നല്ല മനുഷ്യർ പലരും സുഹൃത്തുക്കളാണ് എനിക്ക്. ഭൂരിപക്ഷം ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾ ആണ്. മാർത്തോമ ഓർത്തോഡോക്സ്, വിഭാഗങ്ങളും. മാധ്യമ ധർമക്കാരുടെ മറ്റൊരു വൈകൃതമാണ് ഈ വാർത്ത.

ദൈവാനുഗ്രഹമുള്ള കേരളത്തിലെ ഏക സ്ഥലം കുമ്പനാടാണെന്നു അഭിമാനത്തൊടെ പറയാം... ആ നാട്ടിലെ ജനങ്ങൾ മനുഷ്യത്വവും സംസ്കാരവും സ്നേഹവും കാരുണ്യവും നിറഞ്ഞ ജനങ്ങളാണു ... ഇതിന്റെ പിന്നിൽ തീർച്ചയായും എന്തോ ഗൂഢ ലക്ഷ്യമുണ്ട്.

ചേട്ടൻ പറഞ്ഞത് ശരിയാ.university of kumbanadu നിന്നും ബിരുദം നേടി പോയവരുടെ മൂന്നാം തലമുറ ഇപ്പൊൾ ഓസ്ട്രേലിയ യിലും യുഎസ് ലും ഒക്കെ യാണ്. പിന്നെ ആ അവസ്ഥ കുമ്പനാട് മാത്രം അല്ല. മധ്യ കേരളത്തിലെ മിക്കവാറും പ്രദേശത്തിൻറെ അവസ്ഥ ഇതൊക്കെ ആണ്. എല്ലാവരും ഇങ്ങിനെ അസ്വസ്ഥത കാണിക്കേണ്ട . ആൾ താമസമില്ലാത്ത എത്ര ശതമാനം വീടുകൾ ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഒന്നു പറയുമോ?

Ghost town എന്നത് ആളോഴിഞ്ഞു കിടക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലെ കോമൺ പ്രയോഗം ആണ്. അതിന് പ്രേതങ്ങളുടെ നാട് എന്നൊരു അർത്ഥം ഇല്ല.

ബിബിസി കൊടുത്ത വാർത്തയിൽ കുറച്ചു ശെരിയുണ്ട്. മറ്റു പ്രദേശങ്ങളെ അപേക്ഷിച്ചു അടഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്ന വീടുകൾ കൂടുതലായി ഉണ്ട് കുമ്പനാട്, ഇരവിപേരൂർ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ. UK പോലുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങളിക്ക് കുടിയേറ്റം ഇപ്പൊൾ കൂടുതൽ ആയതുകൊണ്ടും, രാഷ്ട്രീയപാർട്ടികളുടെ ജനവിരുദ്ധപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ടും, ഇന്ത്യരാജ്യം വിട്ടുപോകുന്നവരുടെ എണ്ണം കൂടിവരുന്നു.അതിനാൽ അടഞ്ഞുപോകുന്ന വീടുകളുടെ എണ്ണം കൂടിവരാനാണ് സാധ്യത. പ്രേതാലയങ്ങൾ എന്ന പ്രയോഗം കുറച്ചു കൂടിപ്പോയി. പക്ഷെ ബിബിസി യുടെ ഈ വാർത്ത ഒരു വലിയ മുന്നറിയിപ്പാണ്.

Do not bullshit. People from this place, are highly educated and all of them got high placements plus remuneration from abroad. Naturally they might have migrated. That shows the highest standard of the place and it’s people. How can a sensible person could call such a place as ghost town? That’s outrageous and highly defamatory.

People are overreacting to the article. This town is probably one of the wealthiest in kerala for its size with little to no crime. I'm from there and most people native to these towns mentioned are aboard. It's a nice place to live without most of the crime found in kerala. No political fights most importantly. There are plenty of house with no one living there..

Ghost town is only an idiomatic expression to refer to a place which is scantily occupied,creating an eerie feeling all around. The documentary meant it only in a harmless manner... creating a raucous over it is unnecessary, natives of kumbanad!!

BBC . പറഞ്ഞതിന്റെ അർത്ഥം മനസ്സിലാക്കൻ ശ്രീ മിക്കണം. ഞാൻ അതിനെ പൂർണ്ണമായും അങ്ങികരിക്കുന്നു. പിന്നെ മലയാളിക്ക് പണം മാത്രം മതി. മറ്റ് ഒരു ഹുമൻ റൈറ്റും മലയാളി അഗികരിക്കുകയില്ല.

BBC ബോംബെയിലെ slums എടുത്തു ഇട്ടു ആക്ഷേപിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഈ കേരളക്കാരർക്കു എന്തൊരു സന്തോഷം ആയിരുന്നു. സ്വന്തം തടിയിൽ കൊണ്ടപ്പോൾ bbc എന്തു എന്ന് ചോദിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി.

1980 -85 വരെ കേരളത്തിൽ നല്ല പട്ടിണിയായിരുന്നു... കേരളത്തിലെ 95% ജനങ്ങൾക്കും മൂന്ന് നേരം വയറ് നിറച്ച് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കാൻ ഉള്ള സ്ഥിതി അന്ന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല... കഞ്ഞി ചമ്മന്തി ഉണക്കമീൻ ചുട്ടത് ചക്കക്കുരുവും മുരിങ്ങക്കയും കപ്ലങ്ങ കപ്പ കാച്ചില് ചേന ചക്കപ്പുഴുക്ക് കപ്പ പുഴുക്ക്.. ഇതൊക്കെയായിരുന്നു അന്നത്തെ മെയിൻ ഭക്ഷണങ്ങൾ... കഞ്ഞി പോലും വയറ് നിറച്ച് കിട്ടില്ല... എന്തിനേറെ വാഴപ്പിണ്ടിയും വാഴക്കന്നും വരെ വിശപ്പിന് തിന്നിരുന്ന കാലമായിരുന്നു അത്.. 1950 മുതൽ കേരളീയർ പുറത്തേക്ക് പോയിത്തുടങ്ങി.. ആദ്യം തമിഴ്നാട്.. പിന്നെ കൽക്കട്ട.. ബോംബെ ദില്ലി ഗുജറാത്ത് ഹരിയാന.. കച്ചവടവും തൊഴിലുമായി അങ്ങനെ കേരളീയർ മെച്ചപ്പെട്ട ജീവിത സാഹചര്യം തേടി രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലേക്ക് യാത്ര തുടർന്നു... മൂന്നും നാലും ദിവസം യാത്ര ചെയ്ത് നേഴ്‌സുമാർ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ ജോലിക്ക് പോയിത്തുടങ്ങി... ഈ പലായനം കേരളീയരുടെ പട്ടിണിക്കും തൊഴിലില്ലായ്മക്കും ജീവിത നിലവാരത്തിനും കുറച്ചൊക്കെ ആശ്വാസമായി എന്ന് പറയാം... 1985 ഓടെ ഗൾഫ് കുടിയേറ്റം ശക്തി പ്രാവിച്ചു... പിന്നീട് നാം കാണുന്നത് കേരളത്തിന്റെയും കേരളീയരുടെയും മാറുന്ന ഒരു മുഖം തന്നെയാണ്.. ഒരു ഉയർച്ചതന്നെയാണ്.... മുഴുപ്പട്ടിണി മാറി... ഓലപ്പുരകളും ഓടിട്ട പുരകളും അപ്രത്യക്ഷമായി... പേക്കോലം മാറി... കേരളം തുടുത്തു... ഗൾഫ് പണം സർക്കാരിനും നേട്ടമായി.. കേരളത്തിന്റെ മുഖച്ഛായതന്നെ മാറി... രണ്ടായിരത്തോടെ യൂറോപ്യൻ കുടിയേറ്റവും ശക്തി പ്രാവിച്ചു... ആരോഗ്യ പ്രവർത്തകർ കൂട്ടത്തോടെ കേരളം വിട്ടു... ഓരോ വീടുകളിലും അതിന്റെ മാറ്റങ്ങൾ പ്രകടമായി... അതുവഴി ഓരോ മനുഷ്യരിലും നാട്ടിലും ഉയർച്ചയുണ്ടായി.... ഒരുകാലത്ത് മദ്രാസി എന്ന വിളി കേൾക്കാത്ത പ്രവാസിയുണ്ടാകില്ല... കേരളം ഇവിടംവരെയെത്തിയത് ചുരുക്കി നാല് വാക്കിൽ പറഞ്ഞതാണ്... പറഞ്ഞുവന്നത് ഇതാണ്.. ഓരോ മലയാളിയും നാട് വിട്ട് തെണ്ടിത്തിരിഞ്ഞ് കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് വിയർപ്പൊഴുക്കി പടുത്തുയർത്തിയതാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ കേരളം.... നല്ല നാളെ" എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് ഒരു രാഷ്ട്രീയ തൊഴിലാളിയും തളികയിൽ വെച്ച് നമ്മുക്ക് തന്നതല്ല ഇന്നത്തെ കേരളം... നമ്മൾ സല്യൂട്ട് ചെയ്യേണ്ടത് നമ്മളെ തന്നെയാണ്....

The BBC report is almost correct. The report was not degrading/defamatory/disrespecting kumbanad or it's inhabitants. Most of the respondents, I suppose, have not read or evaluated the correct meaning of the BBC article. They have just answered marunadan channels reporters question. I request all of you to read the original BBC report and avoid sentimental remarks. (Please note that ghost town doesn't mean a town where ghosts are the inhabitants.)

Iam also from the same district, it's not a new thing, more than 50% of the houses are vacant in my locality, in that around 30% of homes are old aged people. Most of the Nri houses they built it and had a grand house warming ceremony, after that it's vacant for years, even they hesitate to let out because it's all their dream homes

BBC report ശരിയാണെന്ന് ഇവർ ആവർത്തിച്ച് പറയുന്നത് പോലെ തോന്നി. Ghost town എന്നതിൻ്റെ അർത്ഥം മനസ്സിലാക്കാതെയാണ് ഈ സംസാരിക്കുന്നത്. പണ്ട് ശശി തരൂർ cattle class എന്ന വാക്ക് പറഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ചിലർ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ബഹളം ഓർമ്മവരുന്നു.

ചില യാഥാർത്ഥ്യങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്. അത് ബിബിസി പറഞ്ഞതല്ല. കൂടുതൽ പേർ വിദേശതനെങ്കിൽ അതിൻ്റെ ഒരു കാരണം കേരള രാഷ്ട്രീയം ആണ്. ഇവിടെ progress നുള്ള ഒരു കാരണവും കാണുന്നില്ല. ജോലി സാധ്യത തീരെ ഇല്ല. ജോലിക്ക് ശരിയായ വേതന വ്യവസ്ഥ ഇല്ല. തൊഴിലുറപ്പ് , നോക്കുകൂലി, സമരം, കൈക്കൂലി, വെട്ടിനിരതൽ, etc തുടങ്ങിയ കലാപരിപാടികൾ മുടക്കമില്ലാതെ നടക്കുന്നു. എനിക്ക് BBC report nodu പൂർണ യോജിപ്പു ആണ്. എന്റെ വീട് തന്നെ എടുക്കാം. അച്ഛൻ അമ്മ മൂന്ന് പെൺകുട്ടികൾ. മൂന്ന് പെരും വിദേശത്ത് settled ആയി. അച്ഛൻ അമ്മ കൂടെ വിളിച്ചിട്ട് വരുന്നില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ടു അവർക്കു വേണ്ട help and support നു trained ആയ caregiver നെ വച്ചു. എന്റെ അറിവിൽ ഇതുപോലെ ഒരുപാടു വീടുണ്ട്. ആളില്ലാത്ത വീട്. മുൻപ് SGK യും ഇതുപോലെ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്. പിന്നെ ghost town എന്ന് വച്ചാൽ ആൾതാമസം കുറഞ്ഞ ഇടം എന്നെ അർത്ഥം ഉള്ളു. സത്യം പറയുമ്പോൾ എന്തിനാ വെറുതെ BBC ന്റെ നെഞ്ചത്തോട്ടു കയറുന്നതു.

Most of them including these Malayalam news readers that reacted to the term "Ghost Town " used in the BBC article, got it miserably wrong. So much for all that claim to be educated. Ok let me help you here - the term "Ghost-town" simply is an English language usage to indicate a place that has fewer inhabitants, or with a diminishing population. And has nothing to do with "praetham" or ghost as crudely translated. So may I suggest that those who reacted be aware of the language and application in context. A literal translation will all too often lose the context or intended meaning. Now what do you say?. Do you want to offer a redaction? -For your misunderstood flareup?

കുമ്പനാട്ടുകാർ ഉണർന്ന് പ്രവർത്തിക്കാൻ സമയമായതിന്റെ സൂചനയാണിത്. കേരളത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ കൈയ്യടി പ്രാർത്ഥ നടക്കുന്നത് അവിടെയാണെന്ന് പറയാം. ഒരു വീട്ടിൽത്തന്നെ പല സഭക്കാർ അവിടെ കൂടുതലാണെന്ന് കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. അവിടുത്തെ സഭകൾ ഐക്യപ്പെട്ട് പ്രവർത്തിക്കാൻ തയ്യാറായാൽ ലോകം കുമ്പനാടിനെ ഉറ്റുനോക്കും എന്നതിൽ സംശയമില്ല.
