I like the idea behind this video, I’ve been seeing a lot of these “McFarlane vs Hasbro” videos lately. But respectfully you’re comparison (and many others) is skewed/selective. I could easily compare a Marvel Legends Thor & Destroyer 2 pack which retailed for $60 vs that Ultraman & Superman 2 pack which retailed for $40. Ultraman & Supes: - are both reuse - come with 3 additional sets of hands total - that plastic base Versus the Thor & Destroyer 2 pack that has: - additional set of hands for both figures - additional Thor head sculpt - Mjolnir - Destroyer is a brand new body mold AND is a deluxe figure which is utilizing pinless tech I like these comparisons and look forward to more! However there’s always a way for folks to skew it one direction vs the other. But I appreciate you trying to stay neutral on this. I agree we should keep them more accountable as this year we’ve gotten the most repaint and reuse out of any year in the DC Multiverse line. This would be a good topic for the DC Multiverse Society podcast 🤔

You’re not wrong. I guess this wasn’t intended to be a comprehensive look at the overall lines. It’s really an excuse to “review” The Blob figure but in the context of recently released similar-sized figures by McFarlane. If I was reviewing the Thor 2-Pack, I’d review it in the context of McFarlane 2-packs and like you suggest, my conclusion may be different! If you have any suggestion for how I can make my intention clearer then let me know! And hell yes, Multiverse Society when?

While I agree that different KZbinrs scew to legends or multiverse and can often give unfair reviews I think Michael's is really fair. He's not picking out the worst mega figure from Hasbro. He's choosing one of the most modern and loved by reviews and normal collectors. Then he's comparing it to several DC multiverse mega figures. While he didn't compare the worst of the MacFarlane mega figures (like the build a figure bain) to the marvel legend I don't think that really matters. We or at least I think most collectors want to see the best each company has to offer as well as what there typical quality is. Michels multiverses (which is a great new btw ) is not an artificial comparison. MacFarlane does mega figures more often at far cheaper prices then Hasbro. Because they are MacFarlanes they are full of incredible sculpt work and (desent) paint. The articulation on them can rang from the same level as Hasbro or a good bit better. I am thinking about the avatar mech suit and the dark lights metal bat suit. And beyond all of that MacFarlane doesn't just do big characters. He does huminoid mechs he does more animal like mechs he does monsters like the kimora and the standout avatar banshees who frankly deserve more recognition on figure of the year list because they are awesome .

I think both dc multiverse and ML are great their own way, but they are issues in both lines, even though I don’t collect ML figures, yes they do a lot of reuse, the prices are out of control, they are some good ones out there though. I been collecting dc multiverse for a minute now and I have my gripes about this line for real, one is scaling, idk you heard but, she is the same scale as Knightfall Batman, if that’s a case then I’m just done at this point with mcfarlane toys though.

@@DCMultiCollector yes very true, but i meant to add in like Batman hush or three jokers bats that Wonder Woman that should be around those scales, not to long ago we gotten Donna Troy and she’s tall, and it’s disappointing for them for not being the same scale at this point, I really wish she was the same scale as superwoman because she tall ofc but she was basically somewhat our Wonder Woman scale for our JL.

Hasbro has been dropping the ball so so so so SOOOO much the past few years. When they try with new sculpes with smooth pinless articulation that gets good rang and lots of swap out exesories especially heads it's always amazing. But it's like one in every 6 figures that does that. What's worse they do good for the most random figures. They will give us cheap lazy reprints for key characters like ant man spiderman hulk ect but someone like frog man gets new tooling??? And they are as you said way over priced.

Yeah it’s why Hasbro is tearing the waters with outsourcing to McFarlane. Imagine if mcfarlane made any marvel stuff would be legendary. 😅💚🤮

Good video. Indeed the price point between DC and Marvel figures is stark, but there are other factors at play. Its not so much what Hasbro is willing to charge, but how much Marvel collectors are willing to pay. Also, that Blob is an updated version of an older build-a-figure. It has a better sculpt, paint apps and articulation. There are collectors who will pay more for upgraded versions of older figures. For people who aren't Evil Mutants fans this won't matter, but for X-Men collectors it does.

OoOoO! Shots fired! Edit: I have that Blob and had to pay $60USD to get him. I love him, and I totally agree that he's great, but he's also a further reminder that we're all allowing Hasbro to extort us because of their "we're the largest toy manufacturer so we know you'll buy our stuff, you know you will biiiiiiiiiiitch!" attitude. Especially now in what I call the discount era of Marvel Legends where we're getting re-released figures that were released a few years ago, but these new ones have less sculpting and worse paint. Ironic that they're the "discount" version in quality, but certainly by no means in price. This is getting swindled and tricked by a business. People who maybe have McFarlane as their number one or two priority figures to collect but also get Legends, NECA Ultimates, Mezcos, S.H. Figuarts, and Transformers know that McFarlane gives the best value per dollar, bar none!
@DCMultiCollector
@DCMultiCollector Жыл бұрын
McFarlane has had some missteps (Collector Edition pricing, etc) but 9/10 times you get more plastic per dollar out of McFarlane and the sculpt / paint is definitely comparable if not superior.

I wish Marvel would come down to the $20 price point. I love some of the X-men and Spider-man figures but for the price I just can’t pick up any. The value isn’t there. I’ve been getting the NECA Gargoyles and Ninja Turtles so I’ll pay if they have the value.

Hasbro is definitely too expensive! They are thinking of paying the ceo and stock holders since they are publicly traded corporation and are not a private company like McFarlane. Hasbro is going to McFarlane to make page punchers for them which goes to show the difference! That’s like the two rival sports teams with the bigger one asking the smaller one for help!

Hasbro has gotten to the point where some of their Legends are so expensive they've committed the ultimate dumb move and priced their customers out. And one way that's happened is making people feel like they ought to just pay the difference and get the S.H. Figuarts instead. Far better figure (most of the time), usually comes with more stuff, much more premium build quality, articulation, and paint.

I think a big reason for hasbro’s pricing along with what you get for your money goes into the size of hasbro vs McFarlane. Hasbro has a lot more overhead cost than a smaller company like McFarlane. Not making excuses for hasbro at all but I definitely think it’s a major factor to consider

Yep everything you say about the price for the hasbro fig is spot on But I have to remind myself that hasbro is in business to make $ and if they can charge more for less. I recently got the darth malgus Star Wars black series and it was a bigger box and almost double the price of a regular figure but he’s just normal sized and came with 1 accessory. I definitely felt ripped off even though the fig was good. And people rip on McFarlane for the stand but I get marvel legends and I’m like why is there no stand? And I got the iron man with the flight affects but no flight stand

I think this comparison is a watermark for your channel. Overall if either of these companies go further with engineering the midsection, by using different materials. Beyond methods both companies need to constantly be reminded to look back at their idiotic engineering on past releases and crappy quality of materials to be reminded how the market has been evolved by the collective collector base 😂
