The comedy of the duality of this game right now is hilarious to me. people complaining about the fact that people are complaining about not having role queue and getting all "duelists" but then also complaining that by far the most efficient strategy is definitely to go 3 healers and 3 tanks and just roll over the objectives.

The way the game is currently is made. I would say role queue is a bad idea. Not having role queue is one of the things that makes rivals different from Overwatch.

Cool video but I gotta disagree here, so here's the counter arguments: 2:00 Long queue times will happen mostly for the popular role Damage. Those who like playing the other roles will not be affected as much. But I admit the number of playable Damage characters is way too high compared to other roles, I don't know why they make so many. 4:21 Struggling to get your rank, sure. However, I want to struggle versus the enemy team, not with my own team, arguing with each other to swap roles. Role queue will let us focus on the gameplay instead of the social aspects. Every game being a social exercise is not something I would call an 'enjoyable struggle'. 4:37 Expecting everyone to learn every role is way over the top. People have the playstyles that they enjoy, let them play the way they want to have fun. Its a game, not a job. 6:40 Comparing pro play to normal ranked is not a valid comparison. Pro play are jobs. When they lose, they get less money. Ranked is a place where people spend their spare time to enjoy the competitive matchmaking and environment. Pro players need to struggle because their JOBS depend on it. The competitive environment *is what makes ranked fun*. Knowing both teams are trying their best to win, and watching that rank slowly go up. Its a video game, the main purpose is literally to have fun. I think you have a serious misconception here believing every person in ranked wants to be pro. Most people just want the better game quality, and role queue will increase that quality by keeping games more consistent and reducing the reasons people have to flame each other.

Not having any restriction will kill the pro scene (which Idk if it will exist tbh) once high level players figure out a crazy yet monotone comp(such as 3tanks/3healers and dive comp) that always works in ranked/pro games, but makes a boring watch experience. And just to be clear, I'm not disagreeing here, just pointing out the obvious parallels between this game and overwatch.

@@maidoxd2306 I did not play in the beta, but from what I heard 3 tanks 3 healers became meta for a while, then people used the flying heroes and AoE to counter it, I'd much prefer a system where the power to come up with weird stuff, and then countering said weirdness, is in the hands of the players. And I know you're not specifically advocating it, but the "pro scene" is in my opinion not something game developers should even consider for a second, they should focus on making a fun game to play, the "sport" comes naturally if people grow to love the game.

I think the whole “ranked is supposed to be difficult and feel bad” doesn’t make sense. It’s a game, we play them for fun. I do agree, however, role queue incentivises sticking to a single role rather than playing all at least a little bit. I am a tank main in most games and it was gonna be the same for this but because I always needed a healer in my games, I switched and now I main Loki. Playing the other roles also makes my main better as I understand the magik flanking will need a quick top up in between me healing the tank and other dps. I know that venom diving in means I need to place my clones somewhere they can still heal him. It helps overall gameplay and role queue takes that away.

The "you are not supposed to win every game" is a bit of a weird argument. No one is saying that anyone should win every game. But reducing player friction is not about yelling at each other for losing, but for some people feeling forced to play support or tank despite not wanting to do so. It creates the situation of people yelling at each other for a DPS insta lock not performing super well. For the solo tank to be accused of not tanking properly. For the solo support not being able to keep up their whole team. "I want everyone to learn every role" ... that's a nice sentiment to have, but it will never happen. People who insta lock DPS don't think about learning Vanguard or Strategist. "Ranking up should be a struggle" - I mean, it will be a struggle regardless. Having a decent team comp on both sides doesn't mean you will win more matches, it just takes the frustration out of the equation for Vanguard and Strategist players. I really don't understand your sentiment of "oh, it's part of ranked to have games that feel awful from the moment you step out of spawn." You will have good and bad games with or without role queue. You will have your high highs and low lows with or without role queue. This sentiment that role queue makes the game super easy and every game perfect is so weird and does hold true for any other game with role queue. I main support. I am flexing on tank about 3/10 matches and if I do, I am often solo tanking. I am not having fun on tank, yet I feel forced to. This doesn't make me think "oh yeah, what a great game where I am forced to play a hero I didn't want to play" it makes me not want to play the game anymore. Not to mention, when I AM in the mood to play DPS, I can't, cause we already have 3-4 on our team

Yeah, much better to have the instalock dps's just being allowed to be selfish forever and forcing everyone to lose games with them because they were reasonable and picked flex roles - utterly stupid solution that is guaranteed to ruin any potential fun or agency players have in the game. Maybe the DPS players should get a thicker skin if they don't like getting yelled at for picking dps and never swapping despite getting no kills, sometimes people yelling at you is actually just, y'know, you need to stop doing that stupid thing? Like people yelling at you to not walk in traffic; are those people bad? Nah, sometimes the yelling is an actual warning you should heed.

Me: screw role queue, do we need RANKED?!? Is it bad to have a hero shooter that’s just about having fun. I hope characters get wonkier and weaker characters get buffs instead of nerfs and role queues. Sometimes chaotic fun without everything being tied to an arbitrary ranking and not worrying about balancing is healthy. Maybe I’m just in the minority on that one. I prefer Smash Bros with items on. 😂😂😂

Overwatch 2 isn’t fun because it’s 5v5 not 6v6. That took away innovation for the tank role completely. Also I don’t think we need to have a 2-2-2. But a minimum of 1 tank and 2 supports. Because even if you say “you aren’t supposed to win all games” if you have 5 dps and 1 support. That 1 support player doesn’t have an option and needs their team to swap. Even if you lost the game it would be better to lose because the enemy team was better and not because your team had 5 dps and just wouldn’t swap. Also to reduce queue times implement something do a primary and secondary role. That would also let other players learn other roles like you were saying. Also you can’t really compare valorant to marvel rivals. The only thing they have in common is that it’s a hero shooter. But marvel rivals have tanks and supports. In valorant you can win the game by just having better aim than the other team. With a game like Overwatch and Marvel Rivals you need to have a front line, dps, support. It’s a structure. Essentially I think we need a minimum of 1 tank, and 2 supports. Overwatch needed role queue and it made the game WAAAAY better. The reason the game is in an awful state is because they swapped the game from a 6v6 to a 5v5. When all of Overwatch 1 characters were MADE for a 6v6 format. Then they tried to switch all the characters to a 5v5 format. Along with the awful balance changes they are adding you just have a recipe for disaster. If you want to have a discussion I’m definitely down!

Ya know, I used to be hard set on role queue, due to playing around 20 ish matches of ranked and either not having enough tanks to heal-sustain nor having enough healers to sustain me. But now, after watching this video. I am not too sure. I don't think there is a sure fire method to making people learn other roles or stop clip chasing, because I don't see any other reason on why you would rather lose a match due to poor class variety. And in the end, I blame the Iron Fist menace.

Until I got a game where I was a tank, I had my duo be a support and 4 damage dealers that couldn't damage the 2 tanks and healers of the enemy team.

Ranked shouldnt be perfect competive enviroment but when you are the only healer getting yelled at by 5 dps for heals Its annoying, Role que doesnt make it easy,It means that teams are balanced and soon ppl will realise in the current system the best set up for any team is 3 tanks 3 healers and anyone who played ow will tell you this sucks! Comapring valorant to marvel rivials is also wrong, Valorant is closer to rainbow six siege where you peek angles not overwatch nor this at least imo Now the issues of having role que? slowe times yes can happen but will it slow down more or make games less fun than when the solo healer is getting yelled at by thier random team mate beacuse they arent getting healed? Your arguement about people filling roles is... flawed, No one wants to swap from thier favorite hero, only times you will find it happening is in premades

Role Queue means you're pidgeonholed into one section for the entire match, meaning you're guaranteed to win a match where you have two crap DPS and a braindead tank and you know if you swapped from support to something else you could win because your SKILL on a hero would outclass the enemy team - it literally removed your ability to have any skill expression. I don't know why anyone likes it, it seems so childish to say that you need to force a 2-2-2 comp just so that it's 'balanced' - you're forcing everyone into so many more unwinnable games just for this imaginary 'balance' - the tanks, dps and supports in this game are all so different there would be no balancing the game by forcing 2-2-2 - and it literally obliterated Overwatch's player base. How many more times do you need to learn this lesson guys? Role queue sucks ass.

People want to play the big flashy heros the ones thats make the kills the ones that are impactful they dont want to be the ones that push in make space for others or heal, and god forbid you get someone who is healer in the team? most times they get flamed and called out for not doing enough, I had a game today where some ironfist player demanded that i focus all healing on him , he was diving into the backline of the other team and i couldnt follow as i was the only healer, I got so much abuse not just off him but the rest of the team beacuse i couldnt keep up, This was ranked, NO one swapped, So lets say that no role que, How are you making people want to play tank and healer? how are you protecting them from the people that insult them and flame them just beacuse they arent where that person wants? Role que wont fix toxic players i know, But there has to be something once again to make people want to play these roles not just sit on dps

They need role queue like a bullet to the head - it literally ruined Overwatch for me and many others, the only people who enjoyed it were jerks that liked queueing for DPS only and not getting flack for it in chat because they wouldn't swap despite getting no kills. Role Queue just benefits selfish players and hurts the flexible players, because if you're reasonable and willing to flex congrats, you're now playing a tank or support 100% of the time because there are so many selfish solo DPS and one tricks that literally will never flex no matter what. I'd much rather have the game actually be fun and let me swap to anything mid-match because we clearly need X or Y and have a chance at winning rather than just being stuck in the support or tank role while the DPS do nothing. Hard pass.

As someone who one-tricks a single DPS-character, I see what you mean. People like me are going to play what we want regardless of anything, so maybe it's better that the other people on the team can flex for me if they want to! Makes no difference to me, but it does help them.
