Is Marvel's Avengers IMPOSSIBLE to complete? When tackling a live service game, things can get tricky with Completionist criteria. This Avengers review may be pretty divisive as we walkthrough what went right with this game and what went very wrong. Everyone has a favorite Avenger superhero, and each character makes you feel like a total badass. But how does that stack up to the great whole of making a good game? Let's unpack this as we jump into my Avenger game review.
Let me know what you thought about my Marvel's Avengers review!

This game had the potential to become a great single player, personal story adventure similar to Insomanic Spider-Man. Unfortunately it went the route of a live service style that will never feel accomplished or completed. The story isn't really about the Avengers, but putting the major focus through only one protagonist 'Ms. Marvel' to bring the team together again.

You know, I'm with Jim Sterling on this one: If you want a F2P marketplace, then your game need to be F2P. Any game that requires you to buy it first, so that you can have the privilege of spending more money on microtransactions do not deserve the initial investment at all.

It depends, WoW expansions goes against said logic. It's dependent on what you're paying for and if it's actually worth it, which is subject to the individual. For the most part I'd agree but with content like The Witcher 3s DLC being another example of a good after purchase purchase and an Amiibo being a bad one..seeing as it's usually $10+ for on disc/cart content that even the shoddiest companies would sell for $0.99. (And for the lols, Jim Sterling has praised and defended Amiibos in the past...but cried when Capcom did the same thing just without selling you a toy, the guy's not the best example to use when talking additional charges in games...or just games in general, given his ludicrous take on the UE5 demo, something along the lines of because Square can't do it then Epic can't, he's a hodge podge of what's wrong with biased media)

@@sdewey4152 Expansions and DLC are different from microtransactions. I see microtransactions like spending quarters on an arcade machine. The game is there for free, you pay to use it. Since local arcades are no longer the hot spot like it used to be in the 80s to 00s, they shifted their consumers from hot new arcade to cool free app that lure you into spending money. From that point of view, expansions and DLC are extra products on their own. You can and should judge them by what they are providing you, and if the extras are worthy the money. But that's no different than buying a new game.
@sdewey4152
@sdewey4152 3 жыл бұрын
@Paul Johnson And the fact it's essentially a physical (limited by production) key that unlocks content that's already in the game files is okay? Or if the files are added by update that makes it so they've manufactured DLC into a physical entity.

I don’t necessarily agree with the whole “i did it so you don’t have to” mentality. Having the ability to recognise predatory MTA’s and discouraging them to your audience would have been a more powerful message to the developers, than caving and buying them only to discourage them afterward. From reading other comment, one thing I'd say is that people seem to have been really shocked that he bought all the cosmetic items in the game (in its current state) and how much that cost him (around $480 I believe). On top of that, he played 225 hours of this game. I think those figures will have an impact on people who may think "well just one MTA" and help them think of the slope they may go down if they try to complete it. That being said, I wouldn't spend the money even if I had it because I wouldn't want to fuel this type of predatory nature in video games, but those numbers certainly helped me realise this game isn't worth my time or money.

The business practices on display here are so appalling that I wouldn't buy this game if it cost a quarter. You can get it for like 4 bucks on Humble Bundle -great graphics even for a mid 2010's game -Accessible and easy to share and enjoy with friends and family -No microtransactions -DLC adds a lot of content on top of the massive base replayability -Spider-man DLC is free and not exclusive to one platform -Unlocking stuff gets easier and easier when you get stuff like stud multipliers -There's a Stan Lee cameo in EVERY SINGLE LEVEL and he's cute and funny -Has obscure and interesting characters like Lou Ferrigno (OG Hulk actor) and Fing Fang Foom -Enemies aren't damage sponges, you can play as Hulk and FEEL his unga bunga power -Super polished, doesn't have 1000+ bugs at launch -Has heart and personality and isn't trying to steal your wallet when you're not looking -Kinda grindy but it's fun and relaxing to grind, "turn off your brain" kinda grind -No battle pass/multiple currencies, you just look up what you want to unlock and go get it -Simple, straight forward menus -Will make you and your friends and family happier and better people -No rotating Fortnite store, you don't even have a store. You unlock stuff by just playing -You don't have to stick to a single character and grind with them to unlock stuff like skins, you can actually change characters and you don't feel like you're wasting experience -Lots of unlockables like concept art and fun cheat codes to mess around with -You can play it online nowadays with Parsec! -YOU CAN ACTUALLY COMPLETE IT JIRARD

This is exactly why I have no excitement for next gen at all because there will undoubtedly be more live service crap like this and publishers will come up with even greater schemes to con us out of our money. Why the fuck should I look forward to or be excited by that? There’s still some developers who make awesome games absolutely, but the AAA industry is corrupt as hell, has no integrity, and cares about nothing more than money. That’s why Indie developers have been kicking their asses. Remember Dead Cells? Guess what, Motion Twin is merely an indie studio, and yet they created such a brilliant game that never stops getting content. Also on a slightly unrelated note, you want a kick ass Marvel game and a hidden gem? The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction on PS2, Xbox, & GameCube. Best damn Hulk game you’ll ever play, fully completable, and an absolute blast from beginning to end.

I get why you had an intro explaining how some of your feelings here might feel contradictory, but I personally feel like you perfectly explained your complex feelings about everything surrounding this game. I loved seeing you get into the nitty gritty and really break down everything in this game and how it all came together and made you feel. And I really appreciate you acknowledged the predatory nature of the live service aspect. This is easily on of my favorite videos from you to date, and I've seen most of them. I really loved hearing you be so honest about how conflicted this game made you feel. Love your stuff. Keep up the amazing work, but please don't work yourself too hard. They are giving out way more for free and literally asking the people who have money to burn to support the game and buy a costume. Woo wee. They don't level up faster, get better gear, they just get a shiny armor. While I don't have to pay a dime and still get cool shit. If it effected any progress I'd see your point, but considering dlc usually costs 30-90 dollars depending on the amount, I'm cool with them asking for money for costumes (ones that I can unlock and they have made the challenge cards much easier to complete) without having to worry how much the next story or character costs and having only spent 60 for the game.

I used to aim for Platinum Trophies myself back during the PS3 gen of gaming and I used to have a lot of fun. Games usually had like 1 or 2 grindy ones and usually 1-3 difficult and/or BS ones, that usually took awhile. I noticed lately that I just don't have as much fun going for em, sure they're pointless & superfluous, but was a fun thing to strive for....except so many games now have extra grindy ones, or games I play single player only or have game modes I dont like, have trophies thrown in that make the journey a chore. Not to mention the possibility of games being buggy and not giving the Trophy you worked for...Ill never forget accomplishing a very slow "Kill 1000 of this enemy type" have it shown in stats I killed OVER 1000 aaand the game not giving the Trophy. nowadays I jus go for easier ones that have little to no grind and jus play the game as you normally would instead of artificially extending it. Personally, I miss the game design of just...games being games, have in-game unlockables for doing or discovering certain things. Some fun extras, costume/character unlocks and just have a more positive & natural experience with said games.

I've struggled with completing games too, especially those that require multiplayer and DLC achievements (for various reasons). While I don't always 100 percent games, I do think that at the very least, you should go for the achievements you really want. Even if you do want to get all of the achievements, go for the ones you want the most first if possible. Alternatively, you could do what I do, and fully complete games you KNOW you can 100 percent, like me with Streets of Rage 4.

Most of it was just dashing down the road wrecking everything in sight and laughing myself silly, but once you get further in you get some wicked combat moves and upgrades and the game just gets even better and better. Personally I’ll never get tired of coming back to this game, it’s just that good.

Tony is actually smarter than all of them, Reed said it best when he explained that they all can do amazing when they focus on one thing one sole project, Tony works at the same level intelligence wise, but he can focus on multiple projects at once, essentially being a Batman, having a plan before or even during a event because he can focus on all the problems at once.

out of that list, i'd say doom and reed are smarter than tony. reed is just the all around genius who has some insane shit to his name, like discovering and exploring of the negative zone, creating belts that give people flash levels of speed, creating psycho-history (look up issac asimov's foundation series for that one) and making it so that no one can mess with the personal timelines of him and his family. not to mention the fact that he is one of the few beings in the universe who can understand galactus' tech. and doom is just as smart as he is, what with creating a time machine that ignores the established laws of marvel time travel. the only earthlings smarter than them is valeria richards, reed's daughter and doom's goddaughter, and the high evolutionary.

@@UltimateGamerCC I didn't see Insomniac having to do this. They gave away a dozen skins FOR FREE. No microtransactions at all. Just a great single player game with a huge Marvel IP. Even more, it was an exclusive which means they only got sales from PlayStation players. Unlike Avengers that can get sales from every platform. This wasn't because the IP was expensive. This was a publisher demanding record profits from their developer. You can almost see the game they wanted to make buried in this piece of crap broken Destiny rip off.

@@ChaseSchleich no, tbh they didnt have to, but it sure feels like Marvel charges too much for licensing, so i wouldnt be surprised if that is why they did this. still it doesnt matter because it doesnt justify it in the least, they made a "Free To Play" game that had Microtransactions to cover up the impossible level of RNG behind these drops. i bet World of Warcraft mounts drop at better rates than Infinity Grind does.

So many comments actually defending microtransactions/boring grinding. Just why? It's not good practices for games to either make you spend extra money or make you waste your time for piddly equipment or skins. Wonder if I'll get some hate for this comment.

Not from me. This live service and microtransactions bullshit has plagued the game industry for TOO long and too many people are apathetic about it. So it just continues to be the norm as majority of gamers can't ever say no to a product of it's a franchise/property they love

Because a lot of people in the gaming community are just that stupid and ignorant, that’s why. I grew up playing video games before any of this crap existed and it has ruined my favorite hobby, which makes me mad as hell and when people defend greed because they’re too fucking stupid to see they’re being played, it makes that much more angry and then I start becoming incredibly hostile to those same morons.
@RokushoTheRavager

@Ethan Roberts, Yea but see that’s what you’re not understanding here. The game is a boring grind, BECAUSE they want you to spend money, it’s intentionally designed that way to make you wanna pay to skip the grind and get the stuff you want. Problem is people have tried to explain this to those like you thousands of times by now and none of you ever wanna listen, which is why a lot of us have just stopped bothering altogether. If you don’t get it by now then you most likely never will. Regardless if the game wasn’t so greedy and it was as good as you seem to believe it is, it wouldn’t have fallen below 1000 concurrent players, just sayin.

Want to hear a hint? Buy video games without microtransactions
@Slightly_Decent
@Slightly_Decent 3 жыл бұрын
@@jonahabenhaim1223 Did I ever say I bought games loaded with microtransactions? The only game that I currently play that does have them is black ops cold war, but that's all cosmetic stuff that I can happily live without. None of it is necessary for completion of the game. For this game it is absolutely necessary to either waste hours of your time or spend a ton of money to get minimal effect items if you want to go for Jirard's standard of completion. I personally think that trophies/achievements should be what defines completion rather than collecting meaningless items.
