The A-Day prologue seriously feels like the beginning of a different game, even down to a couple of plot points that never come back (why is Cap referred to as "The Shepherd"?). It's like they were making a standard action-adventure superhero game, then some snot-nosed nepo baby barged in and demanded it be made into a live-service looter shooter.

That robot isn't 'Officially' a Sentinel because at this game's point in time Marvel was actively trying to bury the X-men and their associated concepts to spite Fox. It's also why the Inhumans were here, they were being pushed to replace the concept of Mutants.

I remember getting super mad that the story was so lackluster without many iconic villains that I made my own story for it. It included the Cosmic Cube (Tesseract), Masters of Evil, AIM, Captain Marvel coming in, Ronan the Accuser and the Kree Invasion, and set up the Cube being used to make Ultron. A longer story incorporating more characters and lore would've made this game something worth coming back to

@@monsoon1303 Okay here it is: Having an already experienced Avengers team who's already familiar with AIM, they discover that MODOK and Monica have been doing weird experiments with the Cosmic Cube. They fight them and recover the Cosmic Cube from MODOK. Monica tells them that they were only trying to stop an imminent Kree Invasion. With the Cube, they try to take it back to their base in the Avengers tower. But while they're doing that, they are attacked by the Masters of Evil or the Serpent Society (whichever one works better) who try to steal the cube. After a big battle, they safely return with the cube and get into a fight over what to do with it. Tony Stark and Hank Pym want to use it to make a being powerful enough to stop the incoming invasion (i.e. Ultron). They start working on a "suit of armor around the world" powered by the cube. The other avengers talk and hang out, showing that they don't trust Stark. Bruce Banner decides to build a beacon behind Tony and Pym's back to contact Captain Marvel to help stop the invasion. Then, the tower gets an alert that a ship has appeared in Air Space. It's Ronan the Accuser. He comes down to make demands for Earth's surrender but the Avengers fight him off. He says he'll return which makes Tony and Hank panic to finish Ultron. But the rest of the Avengers clash saying no being should have that much power, even if it's not alive. They have a mini fight over whether to wait for Captain Marvel or build Ultron. Just then, Captain Marvel comes crashing down into New York streets. The Avengers find her and she tells them that she received the message and tried to stop some of the incoming forces but they were just too many. More ships come into the atmosphere and the Avengers suit up. Some of the lower level avengers like Hawkeye and Wasp work keeping citizens safe while the Hulk, Thor, and Captain Marvel work to take down some ships. The fight is looking bad for the Avengers when Ant Man rushes back to Avengers Tower and finishes Ultron. With Ultron, they defeat the Kree Invasion easily and protect Earth. Then, in a post credit scene, Ultron is being shut down by Pym and Stark for now after the others told them to. But after a few seconds, Ultron's eye turn on and they are red. The next DLC would be basically Age of Ultron and introduce Vision to the Avengers to fight Ultron.

If the game wasn't hamstrung to the live service mission structure, it would have made for an interesting singleplayer adventure... Not an absolute classic but a decent experience... It's also important to remember that this was made at a time when Marvel/Disney didn't own the movie rights to the X-Men and were trying to push Inhumans as a legally distinct replacement for Mutants (hence the inclusion of Kamala Khan and the Sentinel-looking Kree Sentry) which is really ironic now that Ms. Marvel's been retconned to be half-mutant...

But the whole "Inhumans to replace mutants" thing was already... old as heck when this game came out? Disney had announced to be in the process of acquiring 20th Century Fox as early as 2017. Marvel's Avengers came out in 2020. We were quite past the stage of "Inhumans are the new Mutants" already.

@Ilia_Salnicov They didn't use to be "identical" until 2013, when Secret Wars introduced the "NuMans" (non-natural humans that got their inhuman genes unlocked, like Kamala). By themselves, the Inhumans have always covered a similar, yet different kind of niche, especially storytelling-wise (ironically, the recent "Krakoa" run of the X-Men is far similar to usual Inhuman storyline, given the whole "ethnostate with inner political conflict" angle to it).

I also gave it another try this year and it really is a shame. Cause I think this could have been a fantastic linear single player experience. All the things it was ruined by are exactly the things I knew that will make it fail since the first trailer and the beta. This could have been for Miss Marvel what Spiderverse was for Miles. It really should have been a chapter based linear game as it kinda fells like in the beggining. You play one mission with Marvel to find and run from the hulk, next you playing Tony trying to get his armor back. The game was far buggier dude, who are you kidding, the devs literally spent the first two months fixing the game because it released broken, the first dlc was literally delayed because of this, and every single update afterwards included new bugs never before seen, there was literally a bug that showed your ip address on screen meaning streamers were getting doxxed. People game saves getting completely corrupted and never getting fixed, bought skins dissapearing, loot not dropping, its literally hillarious how incompetent these devs were, and how ridiculous you sound by claiming the game was less buggy before.

Sadly the stuff with the Kree is never going to happen because crystal dynamics blew it when making the story good. The last characters besides Black Panther, Kate Bishop and Spiderman for playstation users, are Jane Foster and Winter Soldier. War Machine was going to be in the game but unfortunately this game was dead with it roadmap so that became a skin. Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange were going to added in the game after the Kree update but that never happened due to this game running out of steam after the final raid lair. The only good thing we got besides the free skins were character buffs/nerfs and that's it.

Ironman was my all-time favorite character in this whole game. All of his abilities and being able to summon hulkbuster, not only for yourself, but for other team members who might be struggling against enemies (because the other characters all sucked) is an awesome (and a great support tactic). Slogging through the campaign as different characters, (particularly Kamala) was pretty brutal, even though that's where most of the story is. Like, I get what they were going for, but you really mostly just wanna play your "main" character, and maybe switch it up for later replay value. Kinda like how the Lego games do their stuff. Not being able to properly main a particular character while being forced to play through a different character through the majority of the campaign sucked a lot of the fun out of the campaign for me.

I maxed out every character and had a great time with it. It’s a better version of games like ultimate alliance but trades a large roster for better gameplay. They had bad decisions including console locking spider-man, and it released at the start of Covid lockdown so a lot of game breaking bugs were delayed for correction by about 2 months but aside from that it was a perfectly fine concept. It just got such bad press in those 2 months that it shied away investment. The devs didn’t kill the game, covid and reviewers who couldn’t understand a big picture did.

I can handle a goofy story and marvel dialogue, my biggest issues with marvels avengers is the fact that its a looter shooter game. Like if this game was just trying to be like the batman arkham games with a semi-indepth combat system and just standard upgrades i'd be more inclined to play it. It is so weird that after this games release people would try this obviously failed formula with Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad which could have been better games.

I played this game on PC but don't remember it being this buggy... It's like Crystal Dynamics did an engine update which broke everything, and they gave up on fixing it.

I agree with most of what you said, but you should see how great I'm making the game look with a combined experience with Guardians of the Galaxy. Both games have bugs and issues to say the least but I'm doing my best
