The more we hear about how the MCU came to be the more it becomes clear it really was lightning in a bottle. They really haven't changed their approach to production much . The scrap booking of movies (filming several different scenes & outcomes and putting it toother in post) was all in place during the first 3 phases. The Avengers name drop and Thanos cameo were both just tossed in on a whim and not actually part of a plan. They just went with it when each subsequent film succeeded and somehow it all worked out. They thought they could keep doing the same with a new "big bad" and the all new all different comic characters. Had they taken their time took a pause to wait for the Fox deal to be finalized and started phase 4 with the introduction of the X-men we'd be in a vert different place. They got complacent, greedy and truly believed the masses would simply lap up all the agenda driven drivel that failed miserably in the comics. Now with egg on their face they will try and fail to right the ship.
@hilosky
@hilosky Жыл бұрын
We used to be excited for each and every movie because there was the promise of a post credit teaser/cliffhanger for the next upcoming film, which would directly impact the characters in the film you just watched and/or the larger story. When they reveal the "slate" of films for the next four years it completely kills any intrigue since I know exactly what's coming up and which films sound like I should skip. Which is exactly what myself and many others have done, skip marvels, skip thunderbolts, skip secret invasion, just watch a recap instead to get the vital info.
@bmcfonzie
@bmcfonzie Жыл бұрын
Whatever the approach was in the beginning, I really doubt it has much to do with what is currently happening. The dropoff in quality has been substantial. It's not as if the movies of the prior era were all great, but even the worst of them were at least coherent and entertaining. The current offerings don't even come close to meeting that bar. I don't chalk either the past success or the current failure up to happenstance. There were things they were doing right before, just like there are things they are doing wrong now. The emphasis on identity politics is just one easy example, but I'm sure there are numerous others. Granted, that element was there at the end of the Infinity Saga, but they took it to a whole different level afterwards.
@NameIsDoc

Everything was planned out more or less before Disney got a hold of it. Then when the plans were done they didn't spend any resources trying to plan the next few films. Infinity war was finished with previsualization 6 years before the first scene was shot. They had every camera angle and character position planed to the millimeter. A fully realized animation where sfx teams could work on the major effects at their leasure. It was the last planed film and it shows

Ridiculous. Absolutely absurd. What agenda? Say “woke.” I dare you. No one wants to try and understand the source material they just want to fly to their pack mentality with buzzwords and assume they see the MSheU or some stupid BS like that. So they have a gay character here or there? So? Hardly noticeable by the way, and so they introduce some female heroes that were in the original pages? Yeah. And? Bout time, I say. Don’t be ignorant in thinking that they’re getting rid of male heroes. Hey and guess what, there is no agenda. Apparently none of y’all are following the news of all the firings and rewrites and cancellations. They are shifting to the better writing and not doing projects until they get them right leading up to the Secret Wars reboot. I applaud Feige’s constant listening to fans. I challenge you to find another producer who does that. Bet you haven’t seen the stellar writing in Loki 2 and how it’s building up to Secret Wars. I’d be shocked if you knew what Secret Wars actually was. Get informed. Please. Unless what I’m concerned of here is true that y’all are all out to just ruin it all intentionally. In which case, maybe you should try to do better than Feige has. He’s taken the pages and turned them into a true creative live action masterpiece anthology that no one has ever ever attempted on such a scale. Everyone kinda forgets the massive undertaking and how quite good its been through and through. Or… maybe you could do better 🤔

If they wanted to have Doctor Strange MoM be a perfect entry into the multiverse while also developing Scarlet Witch's character, they should have had Michael Fassbender's Magneto helping her gain power and motivating her to find her children. It wouldn't just work on a "fan service" level, but on a narrative one, considering that the soft reboot version of Magneto lost his family just as she did. Helping his multiversal daughter of sorts would make total sense, and hes obviously one to help strong beings reach their full potential so why the hell not.

But the real feedback loop is: - Feige/Disney make movie - People watch movie - People discuss movie in person, over phone calls, and in private chats. - Sock puppets on social media, operated by activists who are driven by Internet points, try to "out-diversity" their fellow sock puppets. - Feige/Disney read social media, update movie plans, make new movie. Are the powers at Disney ever going to see what's really going on? I watched a video about Kang from the comics. I walked away with two thoughts. First, Kang was an imposter who used advanced technology to manipulate older cultures into thinking he was a god. Second, older comics had better writing, less plot holes, and even time travel was handled better, but ultimately, Kang did not rival Thanos in being an imposing villain in any way. Loki, had everything, it destroyed canon, created unreconcilable plot holes, and destroyed the show’s namesake with a woman and uncharacteristic actions and personality of who you thought was the main character.

In a very distant future where everything has pretty much already been discovered, tech is at an all time high, there's peace, every book and cranny of the planet has been explored, a young Nathaniel Richard was annoyed that adventure was taken out of people's lives and that there was nothing left for him to aspire to discover or do. So he kept on looking reminiscing about the past, the many Avengers battles, the development of technology, human exploration in the dark ages etc. He goes to visit Dr Doom's old palace I think where a version of Kang appears to him and tells him that he knows Nathaniel is looking for adventure and to come with him. So Nathaniel travels with him and he learns about things and the idea of Kang. But the whole point is that the kid was bored in the future and wanted adventure, ended up getting taken to the past by Kang, where his ambitions develop to conquer time itself. Kang's whole thing is conquest across all timelines. You can go check his comic at Readcomiconline(dot)to Look for Kang: Only Myself Left To Conquer

I am big WWE fan and from my years of watching there is something far worse then getting booed when the wrestler is not a heel and posed to be cheered, apathy. Same applies to Disney cos least when people were vexing they was getting some attention even if it was negative the moment they get none and no enthusiasm it’s worse cos no one is watching no one cares and no attention is being shown and I hope this continues

I remember in the final scene of the Loki Season 1 finale, Loki is talking to past Mobius and says that He Who Remains is "terrifying". And I"m just thinking..."What was terrifying about him? He did nothing terrifying. And this coming from Loki? Loki himself is more terrifying than that. You really expect me to believe Loki of all people thinks that guy is terrifying?" I've never read the comics so I know nothing about how Kang is in the comics but just based on that one episode alone, there was nothing terrifying about him.

*Who's* *Knocking* *At* *My* *Door?* *(1967)* So I finally watched Scorsese's first film. I was surprised by the nudity from it. Understand this was released in 1967. The Hays Code wasn't lifted until 1968. If you notice typical Hollywood movies during the 1960s were still wholesome where they couldn't show nudity, extreme bloody violence, and cursing. This was an indie film and a byproduct of the French New Wave. I actually thought it was pretty good. It has editing problems and it's very low budget like Clerks (1994) and Following (1998). But I can see Scorsese's fingerprints. Goodfellas was supposed to be set mostly in the 60s and this film was released in that decade, so you see the authenticity of it. Many of Scorsese's later works prior to The Wolf of Wall Street didn't feature nudity but you see it in WKAMD, Boxcar Bertha, and Mean Streets. I'm still watching Boxcar Bertha which is regarded by many as Scorsese's worst film and it shows. It doesn't feel at all like it was directed by Marty. When Sean ranks his best Scorsese films, I can imagine Boxcar Bertha will be at or near the bottom. It's like Spielberg's 1941 or The BFG. The few cool things from Boxcar Bertha is we get to see Barbara Hershey nude and Bernie Casey from Revenge of the Nerds and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure looked the same back in 1972 like he did in 1984 and 1989. Barbara Hershey and Ellen Burstyn were foxy ladies in their heyday. Ellen who recently appeared in the most recent Exorcist film is currently 90. But back in her 30s/40s, she was nice! I look at Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Brian De Palma, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Zemeckis, Guy Ritchie, and Christopher Nolan as "my guys." And RIP to Richard Donner. They're the ones who raised a lot of us. I love Doug Liman's Swingers (1996) and Go (1999). I do have all the best Kevin Smith, JJ Abrams, and Zack Snyder films. I might be underrating Coppola. He directed two Godfather films that are superior to any film those other directors ever did. And Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, and The Outsiders are considered classics. Perhaps Kubrick gets a tad overrated and Coppola gets a tad underrated? As much as I love Casino and Goodfellas, they're not better than The Godfather I and II. Those two are GOATs. Who's left out there to admire? Nolan? The others have gotten way too old. I do have films from Alfred Hitchcock, David Lean, Charlie Chaplin, Brad Bird, and Frank Darabont. I try to maintain range in all decades. I have albums in my Google Photos full of chick flicks and Christmas movies. Every popular movie franchise you can think of, I probably have it. Except the horror genre. Never been my thing. Joe Pytka, thank you for Let It Ride (1989) and Space Jam (1996) even if both are considered rotten. Will probably watch Duel (1971) after Boxcar Bertha. Coppola's next film: Megalopolis Tarantino's next film: The Movie Critic Spielberg's next film: TBD Nolan's next film: TBD Zemeckis' next film: Here (2024) Hanks and Wright reunite 30 years later. You know Tarantino can direct when I had to rewatch the strudel scene between Hans and Shosanna recently. Hans knew it was her. Ordered a glass of milk for her. What I didn't know was the scarcity of dairy products during WW2. So cream was made from pig lard. Shosanna is kosher. It's little details like that which is why I keep rewatching Tarantino films. *Great* *Action* *Scenes* Star Wars Theory was ranking lightsaber duels and choreography which was fairly predictable coming from him. ROTS and TPM tops, no brainer. Got me thinking, what are some of my favorite MCU fights ever? It's not from Endgame. It might actually be the fights from The Avengers (2012), The Winter Soldier, and Civil War. Endgame felt way too bloated but I did like Thanos vs. Iron Man, Cap, Thor and then Thanos fighting Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel. 1. Steve vs. Bucky, The Winter Soldier TWS had the best hand-to-hand choreography. 2. Thanos fight in Titan, Infinity War 3. Iron Man vs. Cap & Bucky, Civil War 4. Airport fight, Civil War Felt more like a sparring fight with nobody endangered of dying but had humor like Ant-Man becoming a titan. 5. Iron Man vs. Thor, The Avengers "Shakespeare in the park?" This one was so simple but I loved it. 6. Final battle in Endgame 7. Entire Battle of NY in The Avengers 8. Elevator fight in The Winter Soldier 9. Battle of Wakanda in Infinity War 10. Black Panther vs. Killmonger near the waterfall and at the end. Underrated fight: Hulk vs. Abomination in Incredible Hulk. Sorry to No Way Home fans for missing out in my top 10. I couldn't even include Hela slaughtering Thor's friends or that dope Mjölnir uppercut Thor did to Hulk in The Avengers. I personally enjoyed the Batman vs. Superman fight being I'm a bigger Batman fan. Superman sorta getting his revenge in the Justice League. Now let me think about all the great action sequences throughout several movies and TV shows... The Watchers on the Wall Battle of the Bastards The Spoils of War The Long Night Hardhome Black Water War in the Stepstones in House of the Dragon Final battle in LotR: The Two Towers Final fight in Wheels on Meals and Dragons Forever Hallway fight in Oldboy (2003) The Protector fights especially Tony Jaa against a capoeira fighter ala Eddy Gordo All of Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) Raiders of the Lost Ark opening Opening and ending of Temple of Doom Final 15 minutes of Jurassic Park Saving Private Ryan's D-Day opening Glory's final scenes All the epic open field fights in Braveheart Quicksilver's "Time in a Bottle" All the fights in Gladiator and Troy Any scene with Juggernaut in Deadpool 2 Vin Diesel vs. The Rock in Fast Five Burf Khalifa scene in Ghost Protocol Never seen Hard Boiled to see that hospital scene but I did like the Mexican standoff in Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, and Face/Off. I've been a Jackie Chan fan longer than being a Star Wars fan. Watch the opening from Snake & Crane Arts of Shaolin (1978). It's on Tubi. Will make Ray Park look amateurish. None of those lightsaber duels are as cool as Jackie Chan fighting a hundred axe men in Drunken Master II (1994). No CGI. No stunt double. No wires. Way more badass. And DM2 still had a badass fight scene under the train and Jackie against OG Liu Kang and Ken Lo.

Killing off 2 out of 3 of their most popular chars could have worked only if this would directly set up new interesting stuff, or if they were wrapping up the saga. Tony's death makes some impact on Spider Man but its not even close to impact of Eddards death in GoT, I'd say it is 80% wasted. Cap just retires, no one cares for the other dude receiving his shield, so it is 100% wasted. They have also mostly wasted Strange, Thor, Black Widow, Wanda and completely wasted Loki. But even if they had these guys and used them deftly, didn't kill stakes by introducing both time travel and multiverse, it'd be hard to keep milking it a billion dollar per film. MCU had to fade, there's no way to stay on the top for many decades.
