What I find so interesting about The story where Robin May or may not have pushed an ambassador’s son off of a balcony is that not only is it left up to interpretation on whether or not Robin actually killed him but it’s also left up to the reader to decide if it was the right thing to do. I’m not going to say what is the right or wrong thing to do in that situation as you can make a valid argument either way. But what I find interesting is how the story started with the ambassadors kid making up a lie where his victim just slipped, and now Robin is claiming the man he “scared” just slipped off of the balcony
@lilam78518 ай бұрын
Jason is so well written, up until after Under The Red Hood. He's been SO stagnant for the last bit(like most characters now). He doesn't kill, he doesn't feel accepted by the family(because he isn't), then kills someone, is beat up, heals, and then is welcomed back. Which is a damn shame, because he's SO interesting. As a foil to the standard hero trope, to batman's version of justice and his mental health and to what it means to be a hero. He also is so cool as a redemption arc, because he DOESN'T become your standard hero. He still kills, but with more empathy and care for the people.

Regarding Tim Drake coming close to the abyss, believe it or not, he was in such a dark place during the 2000s that he considered taking his own life. He lost a lot of people. Aside from his father, he also lost two of his best friends, Conner Kent and Bart Allan, along with many other Titans during the rampage of Superboy Prime. His ability as a leader was constantly being challenged, and if I recall correctly, he felt that he was an inept leader and blamed himself for the deaths of others. Also, he was under constant pressure and feared becoming like his future Batman self, who was really cruel and essentially betrayed every code that Bruce had. He even became so desperate that he tried to clone Conner just so he could have saved something. However, Cassie Sandsmark talked him out of it and said that it would never be Conner. Something similar also happened when he wanted to resurrect his father using the Lazarus Pits, and Dick was the one who talked him out of it.

It ends with Tim telling him to just talk to someone, anyone, because it does help. Then, he acts upon his own advice and calls Dick and asks if they can talk, with Dick responding positively and trying to talk to him and make him feel better, with the Suicide Hotline advertised right next to the panel.

No, it's just very corrupt; that's not really a continuity thing. That's why vigilantes exist, because the system has stopped working; if it did work, Batman wouldn't have a purpose. That being said, since Bruce has taken up up upholding justice, he should do as a just system would and give serial killers the death penalty, but he just doesn't. This has an out-of-universe and in-universe explanation. Out of the universe, the executives are afraid people won't like a Batman that kills, and villains like the Joker really sell well, so just money. In the universe, he's a psychopath that enjoys being Batman, so he can't kill his rogues because if they were dead, he wouldn't have a reason to be Batman.

For me the best version of Jason is the "dark trinity" one(the one with artemis and bizarro), for me it shows jason's charcter very well, in surface, in his mask, he is a ruthless brutalist killer, that targets criminals and "puts an end to evil for good" by killing every criminal he encounters, but in the inside, hes scared, he has a warm heart and he fears getting hurt again, he thought the one person that he loved the most just saw him as a placeholder, replacable, worthless, but the thing with jason, is that hes kind, he saved his mother even after she betrayed him, he respects Tim for him being bold and not backing down even he should hate Tim since hes the ome who replaced him, and he admires Nightwing like the big brother he wanted to have, and when he met bizzarro, he knew that he couldnt let him be like what he is, bitter with life, from his past, being incapable of moving on and with the world setting him back making him unable to letting his traumas go, the compassion he shows to bizzarro, artemis and arsenal shows that Jason is a kind guy and he whants to do good, he just thinks difirently and has other ways to do that, i would love if Jason made like a Teen Titans with artemis, bizzarro and arsenal where they take care of the lesser crime and leave to batman to take on the big names like Joker, Two-face, Penguin(if he wasnt fuckin shot in the head), etc, and Jason gets everything he wanted all along, to live with a family, that cares deeply for him and would stop at nothing to be there for him and show their affection, and oh goodness if he had that white strand of hair it would be the best comic series for me, ten fold- no, ten thousand fold.

I’ll be entirely honest, the longer Jason’s story goes on, and the more comics come out about him, the weaker they get. Theres a few runs here and there that are great, just like any comic, but this back and forth dynamic of “Jason kills guy, Batman is mad, Jason tries to do better, then Jason kills again” and the cycle continues. It just gets so old after a while. To the point I wish it had just been cut down IMMENSELY, especially with all of the New 52 crap being so poorly written at times. I love the character, but man I do not love a lot of his stories.

Amazing video Mullet Man; unlike Dick Grayson, who was Batman's Greatest Success, Jason Todd really is *Batman's Greatest Failure* . Jason is one of Batman lore's most exciting and complex characters. I love his philosophy of showing Batman how his method is flawed and how when he came back, he wasn't broken by the fact that Bruce didn't save him, but Jason was truly broken, and Batman never avenged his death by killing the Joker. I really hope writers figure out a good way to utilise Jason again because, in recent comics, it seems like DC editorial doesn't know what to do with him since they always try to make him a constant anti-hero but don't seem to give Jason any exciting stories and sort of make him feel less relevant. One thing about Jason I love the most is how he follows his instincts and has used his trauma and instinct to ensure no one else suffers through the same broken system and abuse he did before meeting Batman or becoming Robin and growing up in a life of poverty with a terrible father and mother that abandoned him and used him.

The Dark Trinity was an arc I didn't expect you to cover so tactfully. That Red Hood contemplated killing his buddy (which would have given him more powers) left a sour taste in my mouth when I first read the comic. In what universe does someone with that much trauma kill another person who he has a 1-to-1 kinship. However, I will never forget his desire to save Pup Pup; that was bittersweet misery. I won't take that slander that he's, "Batman's Greatest Accomplishment." I'll die on the hill that Nightwing is The World's Finest Hero for a reason. He is the version of Batman that transcends all others, nearly carrying The Family like a second patriarch. He's Michael Corleone-the greatest son and highest in potential.

Yeah i agree. Editoral doesnt always get characters right which jason suffers a lot from but regarding which son is batman prouder of id say parents dont really pick. He wants all his kids on good paths at least thats how id write him. I think thats why even after everything jason does he just wants the best for him. Dick doesn't have his darkness because of bruces intervention and mentorship and jason doesnt have his darkness consume him because of Bruce's intervention and mentorship. With them being the oldest siblings with such similar lives im sure theres always competition but regardless they represent the best of Bruce. A son who respects his father wishes and is his own person and a son who tries his best to respect his father wishes and is ultimately still his own person.

He is…everything humanity harbours as feelings at the same time. Be it suffering, death, loss. How much he’s betrayed or faced unspeakable horrors; he never flinches. Yes, he does react. But that doesn’t make him give up. “Endearing”. I guess he truly is Batman’s greatest achievement’, mentioned the great Mullet-Man Comics. Jason really is one of my favourite DC characters and being able to learn more things about his story that I didn't know before really heightened my view of him. He's a character who struggles through life, constantly being beaten down and feeling as though he's nothing but a failure to those he's held dear, and that really strikes a chord with me. But even through that, he's resilient and always manages to come back, slowly but surely. Like you said, it's always three steps forward and two steps back with Jason, and I love that about him. Almost everyone who talks about Jason is focused on him being Batman's greatest failure, a cool killer, or a representation of the Batman's flawed moral code. I like how you have showed Jason as a character who struggles and tries to be his own self not defied by Joker's Torture or other tragedies. I had no idead it would take 1,5 hours, it is certainly a suprise, but a very welcome one and suprising myself I watched the whole thing from the beggining to an end. Thank you very much for spending so much time and putting so much work for this video, I hope it blows up since I've been watching you for a really long time and your channel is probably my favourite comic book focused channel on YT and this Red Hood video sets a major milestone for the other comic book related channels in my perspective. Now I will be going to eat some sandwiches since I'm starving, but once again, thank you very, very much for this video!

People also idealize Jason as Batman but who kills. It's a very teenage mindset to simplify such a complicated character like Jason to DC's The Punisher.

It's always fascinating how seemingly every single good comic book arc starts of epic and deep then steadily starts to become more and more ridiculous as it's being milked to death. After it's dry, it's just a free for all of LSD brainfarts and doing the first thing that comes to mind. The quality control is thrown out of the window with writing.

To add to the end of your video- This is what's great about comics. There will always be multiple endings which in turn allows you to choose any ending and make it your "canon". Beautiful video brother

Aight, honest to God, just finished watching the entire thing from start to finish. Really surprising since I tend to procrastinate a lot, especially for longer content but this one? I locked in man. What a wonderful, wonderful video. Two questions before I forget em. As of now, what is Jason doing in the comics? Second, did Arsenal really die? Also please cover The Hill comic when you end up reading it. Batman used to be my favourite hero ever, I idolized him. But I remember watching Jason being killed and my entire perspective regarding Batman shattered. I do not care about the inane reasoning or the justifications given by Batman fans or the writers themselves. Batman then quickly fell out of my favourites and still is to this day. On the other hand, Jason became one of my favourites. Any media I can consume of him, I watched it/read it. Comics aren't really a commodity readily available in my country (Pakistan) so I'm really, really grateful that you covered this. I thought I knew a lot but there were TONS of things I never even heard of regarding Jason here. Such as the outlaws, the trinity etc. The moments with Bizarro were so incredibly touching and I absolutely loved the way in which you conveyed Jason's story as one of growth and overcoming hardship and never, ever giving up rather than making it one of vengeance, anger and heartbreak. I loved this video, the ending especially, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this ♥

Same bro after Jason literally pointed out the fact that so many lives couldve been saved if Batman killed the Joker. I came to hate Batman honestly.
@bluecanine33749 ай бұрын
@Dello678 yeah, but less of a Batman exclusive thing and more of the sad reality of the format of comics. No consistent writers or unified plan for how things would go, some writers wanting to use a character so constant resurrections, and endless merchandise to make so the need to constantly reuse the most popular villains/characters. If Batman killed Joker, then we'd get no more Joker stories and Warner Bros sits with a warehouse full of Joker funko pops. If Jason puts away his guns and gets therapy then fans would complain he wasn't interesting anymore and he was more fun as a psychopath.

You objectively only call whatever you do not want to admit or agree with as inane. You are aware Batman is NOT REAL right? Jason Todd was factually hated by a majority of readers, which is why he was killed off. It's hilarious that "you looked at" a ficticious children's story character "differently" because of the literal probable fact that the comic runners had to get rid of an extremely unpopular character. Keeo crying

Ahhhh it’s well worth the wait. An hour and a half long documentary history of Jason Todd’s various origin stories and how we got to where we are today can take no less time, and you did an excellent job in my opinion of choosing what to include and what to gloss over. Jason’s a complex one and I love him so much, I feel so bad for him lol like DC is so cruel to him and mine his pain a lot, leading to a character that can be extremely tortured, but I like him best when he’s deflecting his pain with really aggressive comedy, compared to Dick’s strong but more lighthearted sense of humor. I think peak Jason is actually Pill head white suit Jason in Batman and Robin volumes 1-4, where he’s got the red hair and is in prison killing all the other dudes in there and refusing to be put in Arkham, it’s interesting to see how Dick as Batman handles Jason compared to Bruce as Batman when he comes back from him adventures through time thanks to Darksied’s omega beams or whatever.
