You perfectly summed up why I love this spider man and why Holland is my favorite live action version. While there are differences that doesn’t mean he isn’t Peter, he’s still the guy willing to get up and fight even when he doesn’t have to or people tell him to stay out of it. He isn’t trying to impress iron man in homecoming but prove that he can be an equal and seen as a great hero. This Peter relates to me, I’m 15 I don’t deal with money troubles, I deal with living up to people I idolize while making my own path, be the best version of me while balancing my responsibility with what I want. Peter Parker is a guy who even when his aunt may is in the hospital, has money problems, loved one died or is being told to stay out of it by a mentor figure, gets up and lives to face another day with his head held up high.

Well said! Hey may not be torn with finances anymore, but he's still torn socially. Always between the bigger Avengers world "out there" and the "friendly neighborhood" down here. He struggles between both. Homecoming was him trying to be big but accepting to be small. IW was him going big. Far From Home was him struggling to stay small. As you said, he could go cosmic. And that would be awesome. Or he could grow up and get married. That works too.
@armchaircritic22485 жыл бұрын
One important thing you missed was that Peter went big in IW just to stay small since he says "You can't be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man without a neighborhood. " But he fails to take the gauntlet off of Thanos and says "I'm sorry " to Tony because he thinks he failed. Then he returns only to be greeted with a lot a people wanting him to be the next "Iron Man. " I think that's why I loved FFH because with the context of IW every emotional beat hits hard, especially Tony's grave since Peter blames himself for the death of Tony because he didn't take away the gauntlet. what people fail to realize is that Peter Parker's side of life in his school years felt more like a sitcom and were relatively goofy while his spider-man side was filled with drama and mystery and both sides of his life gets filled with more and more drama in his college years , so I'd say MCU spider-man is pretty accurate , I have some complaints like most of the side characters are one dimentional , No mention of uncle Ben , It doesn't have to be a big moment , and I guarantee you the tone will shift in his college years and get more serious like in the comics , some of these video essayists like hitop base their understanding of the character from the raimi movies and claim to know him

@soundofmadness5955 жыл бұрын
Mohd Amerul Aidil The MCU Spiderman isn't Spiderman. Spiderman is a character all about doing the responsible thing even if it means giving up stuff that matters to him. I mean yeah, the Raimi movies were corny but that doesn't mean that they're bad. In Spiderman 2 Peter loses his job, his friendship with Harry, his Grades, fails on his rent and loses MJ to another man. And all the bad things that happen to him are a consequence of his double life as Spiderman. When he quits being Spiderman everything in his life improves, but he goes back to being Spiderman because he was given a gift... power and he has to use it to do the right thing. In all of the MCU Spiderman appearances he never had to give up anything major to go and be Spiderman. The only time he gives up anything is any chance to talk to Liz. However this barely matters to him or affects him. In the Raimi films screwing up with MJ made him so depressed he couldn't even use his powers anymore. On another note he's also way too dependent on Ironman. Tony makes his suit and upgrades his Web shooters? What? This was probably done just so they could make Spidey more integrated into the MCU but it makes him less unique. And the fucking boat scene in Homecoming was ruined because there was 0 consequences because Tony Ex Machina shows up and saves everyone. The best part of Homecoming is when he doesn't have the Stark Suit anymore and lifts up the rubble. But still nonetheless the MCU Spiderman faces no consequences where as comic Spiderman views his powers as a curse and even begged Fury once to take them away from him. Even the cartoons did this better, in Spectacular he almost drank a gene cleanser to be normal again but didn't because he was given a responsibility. In the MCU he doesn't view it as a curse and actually loves being Spiderman and is like "yeah I'm an Avenger Ned ain't that cool".

I think the beginning 3 minutes of this video is something people really need to keep in mind when watching these films. In the context of this universe, Peter probably _wouldn't_ have money problems or some of the other classic "Peter Parker Problems" he's known for, because A) this isn't a comic book where outside of events, other heros don't really matter(or writers ignore them for the sake of a story) or B) It isn't a stand alone property like the Raimi trilogy where other heros don't exist.

I'm not being a hater, I LOVE MCU spiderman so much! But I've never read a comic in my life ever before, so what comics is he accurate to exactly? I just wanna know, I mean I don't really care about comic accuracy
@xdecatron29853 жыл бұрын
@@robl0xgamer258 What an interesting question! I don't know that I would point to specific comics for accuracy. This isn't a cop-out, either. All three movie versions of Spidey have borrowed from different storylines and elements of the character. All of them seem to incorporate elements of the "Ultimate" reboot of the character as well as classic silver-age Spidey (60's and 70's comics). It's more in their use of the stories and incorporation of elements of the character. For instance, both the first Raimi film and the second Webb film incorporated aspects of the Death of Gwen Stacy arc from the early seventies, but went in such different directions with it that the two movies have very few similarities. As far as MCU spidey is concerned, he's still a geek, a bit of a social outcast, he's awkward, he's so busy he barely has time for the few people he calls friends and family. He's very smart, he doesn't have great luck with the ladies, he makes jokes at his enemies' expense while fighting them. All true to the character no matter what version you are talking about. But the minds behind Homecoming and Far From Home intentionally looked to things that hadn't been explored in previous movies. For instance, they intentionally took him out of Manhattan for the majority of both movies because we'd already seen him swing through the skyline of NYC in five movies. This is something that is explored in the comics sometimes but hadn't really been seen on the silver screen. They also avoided the osborn stuff so far, focusing on different villains and story arcs, making a very clever use of the Master Planner arc (I think?), a very iconic moment where Spidey is almost crushed under the weight of a building falling on him, but he summons all of his strength and survives. That came straight from the comics. Peter's relationship with Tony comes from the comics as well, though it is played up in the MCU to make some compelling drama. In the last couple decades of comics, Stark has taken an interest in Peter. He did build him an Iron Spider suit, which he used in the first comic book iteration of Civil War. MCU Spidey is a different take on the character, but few if any of the creative decisions are not in some way based on actual details and plot points from the gigantic library of Spider-Man comics. Hope that helps and isn't too long-winded.

@@xdecatron2985 thats okay my friend! I love thought out comments like this! I wanna add that alot of people hate on me since I like the mcu iron spider suit, the color scheme and design is flawless, but people say, ''you actually like that suit? You're not a real spider-man fan -_-" like that really hurts sometime. Others are like "You like this cgi crap? The suit looks weird!" While yes, its cgi, marvel has good reason for it, that's because like, why would they take time to manufacture a thin bendable like metal for suit? And for the actor to switch in and out of it b/w takes. That would be nightmare full. Plus, I really love the design they went with, if they went with a red and gold version from the comics, people would direct him as iron boy sidekick or something. Also with the character itself! They expect him to grow all by himself in home coming right off the bat, marvel takes time to establish Tom's spidey, and thats what I love about it, the small character development for his character is what makes mcu spiderman great in my opinion!

patoloquend0 There’s that as well. It’s undeniable that he’s worked his butt off and has put a lot of effort into the editing and writing of his content. While I don’t have an issue with him at all, I feel like his influence in the Spider-Man fandom has also been a factor of the, somewhat, toxic nature of it. Before his essay of Far From Home, he made a thread on Twitter saying how the movie actively hurt him and made him sick. He has the right to say his opinions and dislike the film, like anybody, but he’s continuing to encourage a nasty attitude when talking about movies like MCU Spider-Man’s. For example, the Star Wars fandom felt allowed to get more toxic because they were surrounded by figures being like "yeah, this isn't just a bad film, this actively HURT me" He’s doing the same thing. And so it began with comments like “Good movie, but bad Spider-Man movie”, and so on and so forth.

Lug-Out I agree with you about his influence on the fandom. Before his Homecoming video I can swear I only saw good comments about MCU Spidey. After that, I started to notice more and more people criticizing this iteration of Spidey, and with the same arguments HiTop presented on that video (what a coincidence). I'm not saying he's guilty of this turf war there's going on, maybe I never noticed it before because I never looked in the right places, but he has influenced people's opinion somewhat. @@TheRealSlimAnus It was some video comparing Peter Jackson's King Kong to Kong: Skull Island. In the middle of the video he goes on a huge rant about how he hates how the US army is portrayed as "heroic" in Skull Island and goes on about how America is the real terrorists or whatever, while blatantly ignoring that the film is blatantly making a statement on how shitty US adventurism is and that dropping bombs everywhere is bad. Kong is blatantly framed as good guy while Samuel L Jackson is pretty clearly a villain, with several characters all but stating this. When called out on it in the comments he said "Well the film should have made that more clear." How else could the film had made its message more clear!? Have Kong turn to the camera and give a huge lecture on the evil of American wars or whatever!? I tend to see this a lot in KZbin analysis, where any ability to see and parse through subtext (and K:SI is pretty much a B movie, it wasn't even subtext it was pretty much text) is almost non-existent. On the other hand, I do agree with many people saying that he isn’t really comic accurate, but I’m more than okay with it. I do wish the films rooted his responsibility and heroism to Uncle Ben a little better, not to say there needs to be another death scene but rather a brief conversation with Aunt May about him or him visiting his grave. Beyond that, I have little to complain about this version of Spider-Man. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is a lighthearted and entertaining character that still manages to tackle themes of self worth and accountability, and it is refreshing finally seeing someone recognize that and objectively talk about what makes this interpretation great.

HiTop Films needs to see this to learn a thing or two about analysis. Wow. Fantastic content. I've been arguing these exact points you highlight to people who hate MCU Spidey...but with a far less erudite delivery. Good job! Everybody just screams "mUh cOmIcS!" without viewing this Spider-Man through the prism of the MCU...which is crucial.

I just hope they continue this in the next movie, i want Peter Parker to come into his own, and really start becoming the Spider-man we all know and love without the influence of characters like Tony Stark. He works great with others don't get me wrong, but the best Spider-man stories are his solo adventures.

I find it intresting that manage to tie in the external situation involving spiderman with the narrative through line in his movies, yet I find that it's a bit shaky due to this Peter's personality flaw. Unlike other versions of spiderman who seemed to be irritated at what they perceive as life being unfair, this peter actually seems to be dissatisfied with himself in general as showm with powers being on and off depending on his mental state or him constantly trying to improve himself through outside means. This would normally be a fine a character arc of like danny phantom peter was below average in most areas and was surrounded by gifted people, but he isn't. He's incredibly smart for a high schooler, could have gone out with his crush at anytime, and seems to go to a school thay values intelligence above all else. So what is he insecure about?

Thank u I agree the comedic look is way better Nd I loved the 1st one Nd I liked how Andrew Garfield give Spider-Man with more attitude but this one feels dramatic with out trying to be Nd that’s what’s very under valued about all these films even Thor dark world Thor explains the convergence as worlds colliding to Jane making it an obvious representation of them Nd their love from two different worlds come even as a Man U know that’s a bar....I can’t wait for three Nd I definitely think they set up great story of Spider-Man does go on the run he should be with mj.....

My only point of disagreement in this brilliance is that his social connections have not set him for life. They've set him for life in his superhero career, but he and Aunt May are still poor. Tony didn't start paying him a salary even if his college career is paid for and he'll probably be selected by Pepper to be the president of Stark Industries until Morgan comes of age. But for now as a high school student he still seems to be pretty much normal Peter. Which makes sense, while Social Connections make for excellent capital they are not in and of themselves actual capital. And Tony is stupid enough to not understand that and provide the kid with a stipend. And I doubt that he set up something for him before he died.

According to a midnight's edge video, it has something to do with the shared copyright license, as long as the MCU versions of these characters are different enough, if Sony wants to break the contract they won't be able to use these versions of the characters because Marcel studios will still own them :p

I thought the recent spiderman movies were preety meh, clearly aimed at a younger audience and while I have no problem with that I just don't like the feeling of low stakes and this peter being so whiny about everything. I will however say I really enjoyed parts of homecoming, especially the part about spiderman saying "im nothing without the suit" and tony starks response. The scene where peter lifts up the rubble after crying out for help like a teenager would in such a dire situation was brilliant. Definitely an unpolished diamond, I just hope they give it a lot more polish and meaningful stakes in the coming movies. By god I also hope the humour improves, they keep killing suspense for no reason with shoehorned in jokes that will age terribly.

"an easier to understand personality role that stimulate conversational diversity and collective problem solving" I really enjoy your essays, but they could do without the parts where you just throw buzzwords in a blender. Phrases like that and "villains shaped by a sense of world building utility" take time and effort to untangle, which distracts from actually understanding their meaning, and from paying attention to the rest of the video. I don't think I even could have worked these out if they weren't written out for me: there are parts that _are_ undecipherable without turning on auto-captions. As a side note, official captions would be helpful. Also properly conjugated verbs. Try to write your points so that they still make sense without the context from the rest of the video. Like "a streamlined archetype that contributes unique interactions and perspectives to group-scenes"
