Thank you for bringing that part of Atlanta History to the screen that's interesting to see how big those HQ buildings were. One can just imagine all the little desks and cubicles occupied keeping track of everything from freight car bills to how much a spike cost. While they weren't railroad offices south of Chicago Union Station the.cityscape changed quite a bit when they tore down the Erie and the Pennsylvania Freight houses as well as the Rea Express building

Too bad Atlanta is just not interested in preserving history. I remember the classic days from around 2007 up until 2014 when all the classic items left over from terminal station were still there. The had about 2 tracks left along with one the connects to the Csx interchange out to Augusta. The old platforms were still there and those apartments nearby on the other-side on the bridge were not there until about 2017 and you could park your car on the road and watch the trains or even go into the grass the was ahead. Nowadays Unfortunately Atlanta is just day with history and railroads and everywhere where some old railroad tracks used to be that are no longer there are now part of the Atlanta Beltline well known. The rest of the abandoned crossings were removed along with the last few pieces of track. In December 2017 Csx had shut down Tilford yard and in late 2018 the yard was completely gone. In May 2019 Csx was going to close Hulsey yard. Atlanta was going to use these abandoned old railyards for there beltline. As of June 2020 Csx brought back Hulsey Yard and Csx is still looking for people to buy the old Tilford yard property. Surprisingly the city of Atlanta hasn't brought it yet for there beltline. The old Pullman Yard towards Eastlake Marta Station was brought by the city of Atlanta in 2017 and will soon be an entertainment complex. Atlanta is just not interested in preserving history unfortunately. The old Southern Railway Pegram locomotive shops are still abandoned. In August 2018 Norfolk Southern had announced that they would be moving their headquarters to Atlanta and had thought about using the abandoned Southern Railway Office. In June 2012 when Norfolk Southern hosted it's 21st century steam program Southern 630 in Chattanooga had made a stop there at the old Terminal station when old the tracks, platforms and offices were leftover from terminal station were still there and did some trips to and from East Point. In June 2019 I had thought about creating what would be known as the Atlanta Historical Railway Society. The goal was to bring Steam back to Atlanta and also preserve some Atlanta Railroad history. The old abandoned pegram shops were going to be a locomotive maintenance, restoration and resting facility. If nobody buys the tilford yard grown then hopefully it can be a terminal station for 3 trains. The plan is the eventually hopefully send the idea to someone else and hopefully then it will work out. Other than that yeah Atlanta is just done with railroads.

I think Terminal Station's main owner - and tenant - Southern Railway System, was paying a lot of property tax on that site and few trains using the station. They were likely hoping to sell it.

My Dad worked for Southern in DC but moved to Atlanta after the merger in '82. If I remember correctly the address is 330 Spring Ave

Atlanta wouldn't exist without these major rail connections from 185 years ago. Sad to see so much indifference 😔 😟
