the fact he didn't kill everyone in the first film really shows how much he was just letting quill get away with stuff.

@Ban this youtube Hell, Yondu was even proud of Quill for doing it. For one, he demanded 'that orb', not the 'stone', and never bothered to confirm the orb he was demanding had the Stone in it until he thought about there being MULTIPLE orbs later. So he had no reason to go after him over it technically... Peter had kept his word, and Yondu had to keep his. He also knew Quill didn't fool him to make a starhaulerload of units, he was gonna hand the Infinity Stone over to people he thought would keep it safe from the wrong hands. Add in that the orb had a cute little decorative figure of the sort Quill knew Yondu liked collecting also showed that Quill meant no disrespect with the switch, he was just doing what he knew was right, and the gift was a kind of apology for the lie. When he opened up the orb he'd demanded and saw that troll figure inside he realized to his bemusement that somehow, his grumpy criminal ass managed to raise up a genuine, bona fide hero, and that despite their seeming difference, that hero still loved and respected him as a father figure.

There’s something I just realized that makes this scene so much more satisfying. When Ego plays a song that Meredith Quill liked, he’s doing it to manipulate Peter. He has to explain in painstaking detail how he and Peter are the Sailor in the song “Brandy” and how they live on a higher plane of existence where they cannot get the girl. When Yondu plays a song that Meredith Quill enjoyed, he’s doing it to honor Peter. He also doesn’t need to say a single word to make it clear that he is José in “Come a Little Bit Closer”. He’s going to enjoy every bloody minute of his revenge against the mutineers for killing all crew members who remained loyal even in the face of Yondu’s continued protection of his boy. Also, José gets the girl while the sailor leaves her stranded.

Mini analysis of the final part of this INCREDIBLE scene: This is Yondu’s ship, from the start we knew that from them being already in the mechanics room and the fact that they went directly to this camera room, it’s pretty reasonable that he knows its hallways, secret passages and so much more like the back of his hand so him being able to control his arrow through the corridors and very walls isn’t too insane to believe (though still insanely impressive, he went on a killing spree using OG Resident Evil controls and DID NOT MISS). What’s equally (if not more so) impressive is Rocket watching Yondu’s arrow through the cameras and gaining a near equal understanding of the ship’s build in SECONDS. You can even watch Rocket’s facial journey of “So if that guy’s there and I aim… here” before firing and looking over and grinning because he knows he’s figured this out and is free to take out any and all Ravagers he wants (thank you animators, y’all are CHAMPS). Then it’s just two mad geniuses shooting fish in a barrel cause no one else on the ship is THIS clever. What a scene, what amazing action and story telling all in one!

Literally no one would care about hawkeye if they had a guy who could do this in an avengers movie. He basically says he got a call and chose to switch out Gamora for Yondu after talking to the Russo's. Gamora's involvement was supposed to be minimal which is why gamora is barely in vol 3 becuase gunn wrote the scripts with "the avengers movies in mind" but not based off of whatever the russos and kevin wanted. Nothing can convince me he didn't get a call to kill yondu lol.

Rewatching all the guardian films has made me even more appreciative of James Gunn for his style, it just feels like you’re watching a comic come to life. Also can we please praise this move for its job at giving everyone meaning screen time? When you sit down and actually analyze this scene closely, you realize it’s doing such an amount of heavy lifting in only 3 minutes. It absolutely cements Yondu as a stone-cold badass and why 80% of his crew had to revolt at once before they had the combined cojones to even confront him. The fact that he uses Quill’s music to commit his happy little jaunty mass murder gives you some insight into their relationship, how close they actually are, how much they’ve influenced each other and even the fact that Peter takes after him in a lot of ways. And then it shows you, and this is important to give more weight to their later scene together, that Yondu and Rocket are A LOT alike. They both had no trouble whatsoever casually walking through the ship murdering a bunch of people and enjoying it. Such competent, efficient and yet enjoyable writing from James Gunn.

Originally Yondu was from a primitive tribe of Hunter's who had experienced multiple essentially raids on their planet. Most of them were wiped out by one of the Kree's warrior races. This was in like the comics in the 60's. I don't know if this is considered canon in the MCU and they just never say it but I doubt it. Especially since they messed up the mutants and X-Men. This is before they essentially rewrote all the comics in the 80s and 90s. Yondu was one of the original members of the Guardians alongside Vance Astro. Yondu was basically written off the team when they abandoned a lot of the old plot points. Star Lord and this iteration of the Guardians only really started in like 2007. Which they essentially became the prime universe Guardians.

I LOVE how at 2:36, he could have just killed the guys running away with the Yaka arrow. Instead, he uses the arrow to cut the spaceship loose from above them, and it crushes them. I laugh every time I watch that part, and the amusement he took in dispatching all those who took part in the mutiny.

And the fact it looks like the arrow itself decided to do that almost like it went "Nope, I've got a funnier idea." And at 2:40 It goes through the guy's mug like "Fuck your beer. Now die!" The second part being when it comes back.

The arrow is my favorite weapon in all of fiction. It's unique, lethal, fast, simple and best of all it's not unbelievable. This weapon seems entirely possible with this level of technology. sure it probably wouldn't have the red streak and would likely look different but how it works would still stay the complete same.

Far and away one of my favourite mcu scenes. Just the concept of that weapon is so cool to me and after seeing the little teaser we got of it near the end of Guardians 1 this felt like a really good payoff. Yondu is straight up lethal.
