Street Fighter Aplha Anthology on the PS2 had the feature of the right analog stick controlling the training dummy back in the day! its so usefull to be able to move the dummy around you and try specific positions I wish it was in more games.

Replying in hopes @jmcrofts sees this but you can switch sides in training mode if you hold the left stick to either side when you hit the 'coin' button it will place the dummy on the corresponding side. I found this just now trying out my new pad and tinkering with controls, hopefully this helps!!

Screen flash... I have a theory. Maybe when playing online there's no way to have each player play on a different setting, it has to be the consistent for both, and if that's the case screen flash should not be allowed because that's a safety thing for players with epilepsy. Player without epilepsy could basically force epileptic player to play with flash on and that wouldn't be ok. Just a theory.

Infinites screw the game balance and can make some matches insufferable (Ice climbers' infinite in melee and crouch cancel combos in alpha 3 are perfect examples) but they rarely or never make a game easier or not worth playing competitively.

I think all the "bad" features aren't that bad at all. Crossplay is new for Capcom, they will get there MvC2 has the memory select so it takes SECONDS to repick a team Statements from Devs? C'mon. No "flash" when someone gets K.O.d in MvC2? I understand it's different but it took me three seconds to get used to it. "I didn't know they were knocked out" was in the video. This guy has been playing marvel for years and putting up vids- I don't believe that the anti-flash feature is actually affecting him at all. MVC2 has such a huge roster but so many of the characters see no competitive play at all.

In the limited matches I've payed online, the no flashing on character death was really confusing. They need to put in at least another way to confirm character deaths. I feel like in COTA, super moves (X!) aren't flashy either? It seems weird to me.

Some the glitch removals come from the arcade versions selected. The version of MvC2 chosen for the collection was a later revision they made that removed some of the game breaking issues like gambit glitch and ruby heart game freeze and some balance updates. The arcade and dreamcast versions of the game are basically the same games everyone has been playing forever but this version wasn't circulated a lot because it came out relatively late and arcades rarely give af about buying and replacing the machine they already own. I'm guessing the reason why most infinites still exist is because they weren't found out by Capcom early enough to do something about to put in this arcade version. Same reason why the latest version of X-men v.Sf rom was chosen for the collection rather than the busted one. I'm not sure about some of the other games but I suspect some stuff from the arcade versions everyone plays to the latest rom versions picked for the collect is different.

Regarding the lack of Rematch: I used to be a games QA, and when working on a certain PSP racing game, a shortcut akin to the rematch was introduced at the end of races a couple of weeks before release. It turned out that this seemingly innocuous change introduced a memory leak that would end up corrupting your save. Obviously I have no idea what happened here in MvC2, but the fact that they added the cursor memory tells me they knew they needed to speed up time between matches, so maybe they tried Rematch but didn't end up adding it because of technical issues. I know it sounds like a very easy thing to add, and maybe, in the case of MvC2 it is... but maybe it's much more complicated than it looks.

Which I mean...at the end of the day may lead to a proper MvC 4 because companies follow the money. So there is the silver lining to that. I myself have the switch one pre ordered and I am waiting on it. I do plan to buy a Steam copy around holiday time. A save state is the contents of memory, literally the state of the game, at the time the save was created. That is why a save state cannot be used for faster rematches: the match had not yet started when the save was created, hence any rank changes and game challenges from that match would be reset.

I have noticed that sometimes there is screen judder (not lag) which occurs randomly. It is mostly noticeable when there is long horizontal or vertical scrolling during super jumps or cross screen dashes, or during scrolling text via X-men Vs SF title screen. Then it can sometimes happen just during normal actions and for intermittent intervals. I am playing on the Switch version but noticed it during a PS4 stream as well. It seems to be the type of thing that occurs when Vsync isn't properly adjusted or when frameskip is set too high. This definitely needs a patch as this would be pretty perfect aside from this issue IMO. Heck I noticed the they made the control sensitive very well; so that even the buttons on the joycons as a dpad, works very well!

The reality is that this not for the hardcore purist but for casuals with an interest in fighting games. The lack of a quick match was seen in the other collections. It’s just one of MANY signs that these are very dated arcade games that lack modern QoL elements. And for the selective things, it seems like in the process of correcting game breaking things certain things are no longer possible.

Something nobody is mentioning is the sound quality. The sound effects are badly compressed and distorted compared to original arcade and even older ports. Very tinny sounding with all the meaty punch of the hits lost. Sadly it's especially noticeable in mvc2. Going in to edit these roms for the collection, some quality has been lost in translation.

It's perfect for me. I started to tear up playing it at 4am...while I do wish juggs still had his glitch I'm ok with this. Crossplay also wasnt built into the 1st fighting collection and since they are using that framework it wasnt going to happen here. Same will be the case for cspcom collection 2. Also as someone who changes his teams alot online, going back to character selection is great for me.

But it’s still literally just a couple emulators, a couple roms, some scripts and save states, and a bunch of menus being sold for $50. Most of this game’s development effort was dragging and dropping. Compare the effort it took to port every game in the Alpha Anthology to PS2, compared to the effort here. Despite being way harder to make, Alpha Anthology is way richer in content. Somehow, these games get easier to make, and yet deliver less and less.

thanks I tested it online against a friend and it works there too. I tested it in Dreamcast training mode just now and it does work, must be a weird version like ps2 or 360 where it doesn't (or could be because i'm playing on emulator)

The Sega Saturn had arcade perfect releases of both XmvSf and (a superior than arcade version) of MshvSf. Not to mention, emulation has been capable of playing the arcade roms of these games for at least 15 years.

I think they nerfed Dark Sakura's teleport so that you can't abuse it along with Ken's anti air assist like in the original/360/PS3 versions? I remember being able to teleport to the opponent while calling in the assist and teleporting away again while being invincible the entire time? Am I remembering this wrong?

I've found one weird bug with Sentinel in MVC2 in this collection where he'll sometimes say "UNIT DESTROYED" when he's hit when he's only supposed to say that when he's KO'd. It's kinda funny, though! 😂

My guess about the glitches taken away is that they indeed are not targeted but the result of cleaning up the code. Juggernaut's power-up was obviously always a glitch, so making it not work is part of cleaning up the code. Likewise, I wouldn't be surprised if Anakaris or Cyclops from XvSF had some sort of glitched physics interaction which got patched out. The team seems fine with preserving the infinites that characters have so long as they're available without a glitch, so I suppose we're going to see how many characters were only good due to spaghetti code.

With XvSF, that one is a case that they are using V3 of the game for balancing (which was the last revision aka the Saturn balance)

That's the thing, it seems to be pretty obvious to me If they can do it because the properties of their moves allow it, it stays. If it's the result of some data getting scrambled or otherwise being wrong, it goes.

I’m happy with it. The input lag feels really good on PS5, the netcode feels good, it has the option for integer scaling, the filters are pretty good. I have a couple very minor complaints but they don’t spoil the experience at all. Now I wish they could patch the problems in Street Fighter 30th Anniversary.

Such a great release from Capcom, the ONE thing I wish they would have done was add a built-in ratio system. The way the game is built they would have had to add a separate ROM, one classic and one "ratio" mode with Ranked, Unranked, etc. Would keep a lot of spice and flavor in the game when a lot of the regular ranked mode is going to be the same few characters.

Its more than likely for him that during his matches, it was set to on for some reason. (Can now confirm, it is set to on by default in Ranked and Casual).

@@jmcrofts As far as I know, the settings are locked in for Ranked and Casual, basically a precaution for those that are actually epileptic. At least lobbies do let you mess with the settings however you want, so there is that as a fallback

@@wiltisdabest I agree it would be better overall if cross play was added but at the same time understand there would be more technical, software, and approval hurdles to go through if they went that way. Unfortunately, every console has their own rules and aren’t 100% down sharing their pool of players with people they have no rule over (among other internal reasons). It sucks but I’m not going to take this collection for granted.

About the bugs/glitchs/infis, I believe they are wating to see how the community will react to it. Some people, like myself, believe they should fix/balance stuff so the game can be competitive, but I know some will like it untouched, for nostalgia or other things. Day 1. Lets wait to see how players are going to react.

Aside from Juggernaut glitch*, my only complaint you haven't mentioned is button configuration. You have to slide each of your buttons instead of pressing them in sequence like as if we went back to 2012. I get the easy move/super button is reason why this is the case, but c'mon it should've been a separate config menu... especially since you can't even use easy moves in ranked anyway. *(which if it honestly doesn't get patched back in, I don't think this collection will last more than a year in tournaments)

The lack of crossplay support is the biggest issue for me. Steam/PC, PSN, Switch Online and soon XBL and the players will all be divided amongst the consoles. It's likely that PC and PSN will overtake the Switch and XBL ports that it will make them obsolete faster. The game is confirmed to run very well on the weakest console (Switch) so they really don't have an excuse to not implement this anymore. Unless you really enjoy the single-player experience or are using it for an FGC local, then buying the game on the switch and XBL is pretty much a waste of money. Even if it comes at a later date, including crossplay will, in my opinion, make this collection more valuable than Fightcade as emulation will always be a hassle for the non-hardcore playerbase and giving them an option to play amongst other consoles will increase the longevity of the collection. They've done it beautifully with SF6 that there's no reason to believe that they cannot do it for this, and the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2.

The rematch thing would definitely have been a nice QOL change for mvc2 in particular. I'm not too concerned with the other items though. Even crossplay...as much as i'd like to have it, i feel like in-game performance is always hit or miss with those titles, especially if we started mixing in Nintendo Switch. It'll lead to smaller player bases on switch and xbox, but i just cant call lack of crossplay a 100% negative either.

I can imagine the struggle in the dev team on what to do about the Iron Man Infinite. There's no reason they don't know about it, it's the most iconic infinite in fighting games... but they can't remove it, because it's *literally the most iconic infinite in fighting games*, and they'd be disappointing people who are picking up the game SPECIFICALLY so they can do the iron man infinite from the memes.

I think these rebalances are mostly unintended as JM said. Something in the code got rid of certain glitches, even though they were not directly targeting them.

If they included cursor memory but not quick rematch then I have a suspicion that there might be some technical limitation to getting quick rematch to work within the time/budget they set. I can't imagine how that would be but having the cursor memory means that really thought about it from a game design sense. Like the cursor memory means they already save the "state" of the match in some form. Maybe the engine or something is really hard designed to boot to menu/character select after every match and there's no way to change it without risk. That design choice might also be there because of the origin as an arcade games right? You had to put in a coin after every match so that might have been a fundamental design assumption in the way the games are implemented that make it hard to change. Also yeah. Those fixed freeze glitches really might have had unintended side effects of fixing other things. It really depends on what's the root cause. Capcom themselves might not even know what glitches they fixed and didn't fix.

No crossplay is the major, maaaaaajor thing that kinda kills the game for me... This games collection is astonishing. I'd honestly go as far as to say the best compliation of games to ever officially be released next to the Genesis Collection on PS3/360 era. But no cross platform intergartion in something as community based as fighting games is honestly extremely detrimental to its life span. Simply put, the more you have to play with, the more you will actually play. It sucks personally knowing so many people who grew up alongside me LOVING these games are SO close to being able to spend multiple years enjoying them together once again but cant simply because they dont all share the same exact console...💔. Still, go out and support this masterpiece if you can. This is the type of stuff we gotta show our love with our money and in doing so will give them the confidence to continue to deliver quality products like this to us in exchange for profitable margins for them. PS: DONT DO JUGGERTON LIKE THAT CAPCOM! 😭🙏

Could be that the emulation engine is too good that it fixes memory glitches like you said. That’s a hard thing to control for. This is the first implementation of their Naomi emulation. Maybe they can make it a little more accurate.

Patching out glitches is extremely weird. I get patching the glitches that soft lock the game, that makes sense, and those were already banned in competitive play by the community. But removing things that change the game balance is just a strange choice.

From what I heard, the Juggernaut glitch was removed in the PS3 version as well. This might be a case of re-using that version maybe? If there's other fixes from that version in this then it would confirm it.

If a glitch is the only reason a character is good or great, then that is a problem in itself. I prefer a balanced game with no glitches. Infinites are lame because it's completely unfun for the other player. No situation should ever occur in a fighting game where you can do anything.
