Aside from Adobe (which is pretty much a must, but they're at least reasonably priced) I only use perpetual license for everything else. I've otherwise stopped using software that have moved to subscription only. I wish more would do this.. because voting with the wallet is the only way to change their minds. Also many drops makes an ocean. A clear example is Autodesk where the threat from Blender have forced them to lower the prices more and more. We all owe Blender a debt of gratitude from the flood of greed going on.

I own version 8. I never used it and don't need it for day to day use - but it was on sale and its a cool program to learn. So, this pretty much leaves out anyone except those that need it in their everyday work. Bye bye Marvelous designer for me then - I just hate that every program is going subscription based, there's a limit on how many subscriptions one will accept to have and it makes everyone more picky of which software one actually need and willing to pay for.

Subscription is a smart and con way to make money on people.GREED IS THE DOWNFALL OF HUMAN. 3D and 2D is a complex thing to play with and demands time and effort to do just a simple thing. PLus you need expensive computer, you have to learn the softwars which takes months and years, plus making money with these or getting a job is almost impossible, then you have bills to pay, house rent, and so on. How the hell can you rent all of those softwares that you just PLAY ALONG with when you barely make 3k$ in your construction job. SHAME. Remember, those softwares are not SERVICES. You can't just cosume or take, you have to learn and do everything on your own. Spotify, Deezer, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc are SERVICES. I can pay monthly for this, but not a software. The software industry is getting worse than the music industry.GREED

What are the benefits of MD versus sculpting clothing in something like Blender? Seems to me sculpting is the best way to go, since there are no limitations to what I can achieve, especialy if I want to integrate 3D objects and clothing! Am I right here, or is MD a better solution?
@Yodi_Bear4 жыл бұрын
I’d argue it’s about 10x faster than sculpting, it’s also got great cloth simulation for animating, it gives you great UV maps, and creates accurate layers of clothing. I mean if you’re making jeans and a T-shirt it’s overkill but if you’re making a post apocalyptic road warrior with 4 layers of clothing that’s all tattered, and a backpack on it’s almost a necessity. At least for realism.

Stop making my life harder! You have no idea how much I'm trying to save and spend crazy a lot of money on trying to get perpetual license! I don't plan to sell my stuff to make money and how do you expect me to pay in monthy?! But the big question is, is it justify to pirate softwares if they don't offer perpetual license?
@renjackson42494 жыл бұрын
Look, I understand why most companies switch to the subscription model, some of the time it's greed but most of the time it's competition, it's impossible to compete and keep up with a competitor that's making 10x as much as you do and that feels like that's what's happening here with Marvelous when going against Clo But just because I or anyone else may understand, it doesn't make it any less shit that this model of sucking developers and artists dry is becoming the norm in recent society. This is not okay, especially considering the most full-time artists don't make all that much anyways, and if you end up having a bad month or two then that's it, you're screwed over, you lost access to the programs that were making you money in the first place and you can't do anything about it because most companies don't have remorse for these kinds of situations. Christ I hope something changes soon, for 3D art I just use a combination of Mixer 2020 and Blender 2.83, both are free and I really recommend them to anyone looking into alternatives for any software that's slowly being enveloped in this wave of shitty monetary models.
@3drocket4 жыл бұрын
MD does not really have any competition which shows us that this is only based on greed and not because they are trying to keep up with competition.

Pay-to-own is simpler "for the software developers"; companies could care less about hobbyists. I am running an indie startup so fall into their Enterprise tier, which makes it impossible to own... fortunately, whilst other toolsets (such as Blender) have quite a learning curve, at least THERE ARE alternatives that don't cost the price of a PC to do cloth dynamics.
