Instead of dragging the keys 24F in the graph editor, which can be a little finicky when dealing with a huge amount of curves, you can type in +=24 into the frame number entry field in the Stats area of the menu bar

Seems like Maya 2022 needs the Ogawa file format. Got an error with the HDF5 file format: "Alembic files must be in Ogawa format. Support for HDF5 alembic files has been removed starting in Maya 2022."

Bro.. awesome tutorial... I've small doubt,... in this tut, u r using cloth which u created in MD. But how can we simulate if a cloth from maya(means if we have already cloth model ).. could u pls explain?
@tjcousler3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can import that cloth into MD. Go to import > obj > under "Object Type" check the circle that says "Load as Garment." You might want to make sure your obj has UVs before importing, because that's what MD needs to create a fabric pattern. Hope it helps!

Hello, I have a problem when importing my character with Allmebic animation or with any extension. When importing it in Marvelous the scale of the head or shoes is much bigger compared to the body, and the scale of Marvelous and Maya are in cm... I don't know how to solve it... I know Maya has a "Transfer Animations" panel. Is there a way to transfer a cleaned up version of the clothing to the animation so that you get both the animation and clean topology?

So...you actually do animations before putting the clothes on? I'm asking cause i'm making a short movie and since i'm a beginner i wanted to know if I should hand the model with the rig to the animators before doing the clothes? Great content btw !
@tjcousler4 жыл бұрын
Hey Sachpierre, glad you liked the video! the important thing when working with Marvelous is having a model with a neutral pose. When you give the rig to the animators, you should have them set the rig to it's default pose and put it back to the origin for each shot. give it like 3-5 seconds of buffer between the neutral pose and the start of the animation. You would need to do this so that there's time for the cloth to settle before the animation happens. Traditionally, I think most people create the clothing during the modeling process, but simulate it after the animation is done. Also keep in mind that this is just the workflow that I use, there may be better more efficient workflows out there. I can only speak from my own experience. Sorry for the lengthy reply, hope it helps!
@sachpierre18484 жыл бұрын
@@tjcousler Thanks a lot, it's clearer to me now. Unfortunately I was given the task of doing the rigging lol it's a pain haha. Now I know it wouldn't be a waste of time doing the clothes this early on in development ! Great video keep it up :)

can you export the alembic separately? i'm having trouble because my shirt and pants have different uv set

Hmm, try selecting only the garments you want to export first, then hit the export alembic button. You could also try hiding the fabric you don't want before you export. Just select the garment and hit shift+q

I'm unable to import the alembic cache into maya :/ it says it's not a valid Alembic file. I tried Ogawa but it only imports a cloth group into the scene and nothing else. i've tried other export options but they dont let you change the frame rate which I really need to do. any advice?
@yomomma53473 жыл бұрын
so it turns out the frame rate option is broken. i had to change my scene to 30 fps, export an alembic, do my marvellous business, export ogawa at 30 fps and then import that into maya and change the scene back to 25. really annoying. im using maya 2022 btw. hope this helps somebody

When i import my alembic cache the number of frames are not accurate to my maya scene. I was wondering why every time Import it back to maya, my clothing animation timing is off. One way i went about fixing it is changing my scene time warp to be .8 because the animation is a bit longer in marvelous. How do i fix it so i don't always have to play with the scene time warp?
@tjcousler3 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering if it's because you have different framerates between Maya and MD. In Maya down in the right corner near the timeline should be a framerate option, that needs to be the same as MD's framerate. I think Maya defaults to 30fps while MD's standard is 24. Maybe give that a try? Hope this helps!

@tjcousler3 жыл бұрын
Was the garment created in Marvelous? Or was it imported from another program? In this case, we created the garment in MD and baked it to an alembic. If imported from another software, I'm not too sure how to convert an alembic cache to usable fabric. There might be some forums on the MD website to help, they have some extensive tutorials on alembic caches and simulations.

Quick question, I'm trying to do this with some clothes models I imported form Maya but at it keeps giving me the error "Could not recognize UV borderline correctly" when generating the patterns from the UVs it has, have you even had this problem?
@tjcousler3 жыл бұрын
I have unfortunately. Try double checking the scale of your geometry, it needs to match MD in order to trace the UVs properly. When I had this issue, I found some online forums that helped troubleshoot the issue. Usually just googling the error line that MD provides will give you some online resources to help.

I'm not super familiar with MD's material functionality. Usually, I just use it to get an idea of how the material will look, and then re-create a more flushed out version in something like Substance. Look up a guy named Travis Davids on KZbin, he's a MD pro and can give you way more information about garment creation and materials!
