My tribute to the legendary undisputed champion and greatest Middleweight of all time.
Marvelous Marvin Hagler - Was an American professional boxer and film actor who competed in boxing from 1973 to 1987. He reigned as undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to 1987, making twelve successful defenses of that title, and holds the highest knockout percentage of all undisputed middleweight champions, at 78 percent, while also holding the third-longest unified championship reign in boxing history at twelve consecutive defenses. At six years and seven months, his reign as undisputed middleweight champion is the second-longest of the last century, behind only Tony Zale, whose reign included several years of inactivity during his service in World War II. In 1982, annoyed that network announcers often did not refer to him by his nickname "Marvelous", Hagler legally changed his name to "Marvelous Marvin Hagler".

I saw him fight the first time when I was 11. That is exactly what I thought watching him, the man is a beast. He could out box the boxers and out brawl the brawlers. The only person I thought had a chance to beat him in those years was Tommy. Tommy left his bike at home and tried to go toe to toe with him. Man what a fight though!

I'm Italian. Marvin lived here for a while and kept coming. I bought a signed glove from him three years ago... Then, since it was a gift to my father, I asked via mail for a personal dedication to be added beside Marvin's classic signature. His secretary told me that he was busy and out of town but she would turn my request over to him. Actually I didn't expect that he would do anything, but eventually he did. This thing alone says it all about the person. Thank you Marvin. I'm sure that now you are skipping lite and happy

The most exciting fight that I attended live on site at Caesars Palace Las Vegas was the Marvelous Marvin Hagler ve John The Beast Mugabi fight. It was held outdoors and it was very cold weather and raining. The undercard was Thomas The Hitman Hearns vs James Black Gold Schuler. Hearns was carried into the ring so he wouldn't get wet. The ring was covered in a tarp for the rain. The Hagler vs Mugabi fight was a war and Mugabi was undefeated with all wins by knockout. The fight was a war and battle of the wills. It was so intense and thrilling that I almost forgot about the rain. I am honored to be part of history. I had attended Mugabi's fight camp in Rio Rico, Arizona for several weeks. I met him and Cornelius Boza Edward's and had lunch together with them at the Country Club. His training and sparring skills were awesome. I thought that he stood a good chance against Hagler, but Hagler was a man on a mission. Those were great times and I've been a boxing aficionado since 1959. Marvelous Marvin Hagler is a legend and will surely be missed by the world who he touched so deeply.

This splendid , talented , courageous ,fearless, formidable , black legend inspired me as a kid. He fought the very best at their best , never ducked anyone and beat them all ! ( Obviously a couple of exceptions ) . His toughest opponent was himself , he never really thought that he was respected by the boxing world , let me tell you now Mr Hagler , you were the best ! Not just of your era but one of the best in History ! Marvin was born in an era when boxing had so much talent and he still rose to the top of the pile , and everyone else knew it ! His mental toughness exceeded that of other boxers who themselves had some of the most incredibly tough mindsets you'd ever find in an athlete. From his extraordinarily iron chin to proficiency in two stances and his incredible stamina, if you add his uncanny determination and two-fisted assault, he was a nightmare for anyone who had the misfortune of facing him. He stepped in to the ring with one of the most devastating punchers of all time in Tommy Hearns and walked through every single bomb thrown at him without even flinching until he wore Hearns down and put him on his back. Hagler was never even knocked down in 67 fights sans a slip in one match which was mistakenly ruled a knockdown by a ref. His brutal battle with John "The Beast" Mugabi, a ferocious power puncher, defied logic for the amount of punishment a man can take without even showing an inkling of discouragement or disrupted determination. Marvin Hagler was a fighter's fighter, a man's man and the epitome of all the attributes a supreme warrior should possess. He stopped at nothing to achieve victory and his borderline superhuman abilities and achievements will echo in boxing lore forever. @Caligula Yes, Ray Robinson is undoubtedly among the Greatest Boxers to ever step into the Ring. He is the Greatest Welterweight in Boxing History. He crossed over into other weight divisions and continued his greatness, certainly. Even these Men, the greatest pf them all, have early career growth when they are not yet (too soon) ready to take on reigning champions. The usual point which a boxer should move into contest against top 5 or 6 ranked Contenders if typically at a 19-20 record (usually undefeated at such point in advancing into Contender History.

Boxing was chaotic in the 70's and 80's, and Hagler brought ORDER the sport. He didn't go up in divisions, nor down, he stayed the same weight through his entire amateur and professional career. He was a domineering figure who owned the Middleweight division. I was a sparring partner for another Middleweight that was one or two fights away from a title shot with Hagler, but never got the shot, as he lost just one major fight, which put him out of the running. . Everyone wanted a their chance at Hagler...but Hagler stood like an unmovable rock, holding down the Middleweight division for nearly a decade, and defended it with a viscous tenacity. There will never be another like him. He was the undisputed king of the eagles nest, and the undisputed Middleweight Champion of the World. Rest in Peace, brave warrior.
