Thanks for this one! I first to know Flash Gordon via the old King Comics series. Personally, I liked the 1980 Flash Gordon movie. It was fun, with Timothy Dalton as Prince Barin, Brian Blessed as King Vultan, and Max Von Sydow perfectly cast as Ming the Merciless. The updating of Flash as a Jets football player aside (the comic strip states he was a renowned polo player), the film got the look of the comics right. Plus, Queen’s theme song’s one of the best for a movie theme.

I LOVED the Flash Gordon movie. Ever since I was a little kid. It's ones of those movies no one understands why I like it so much. And I have to admit I don't know why I love it. Maybe the soundtrack? Maybe it's so bad, it good. 🤷🏻♀️. But I always seem to like those cheesy movies. The movies that was a flop and that the critic hates with a passion. I don't know why even after over 30yrs of saying I love that movie I still pull it out and watch it again.

Amusingly enough, in one of the first episodes of the 1979-80 Buck Rogers series, Buck is aided in the climatic space battle by Brigadier Gordon. The movie was okay for its time ; looking back though it was pure camp, flashy, and a bit silly 😜! If memory serves me right, the movie was produced my Dino De Laurentiis, who also did King Kong! Mings costume in the movie weighed 70 pounds and he could only stand a few minutes at a time. @teddyrocker2 жыл бұрын
Sam Jones not only nearly walked out, but because of a fight with De Laurentis that nearly ended in punches, he left the production before it was finished, so his voice had to be dubbed by another actor.

1. No love for Brian Blessed??? 2. Not a word about a certain category of live "action" spoofs (mainly from the 1970's, though the 80's saw some action too) such as "Flesh Gordon"? ("Flesh Gordon" had William Dennis Hunt performing as Wang the Perverted; the sequel would have him performing as the being "Evil Presence".) 3. There have been many knock-offs (live action movies, animated movies, TV shows, comics) and while most were garbage, some were actually pretty decent... shame some of those didn't get any mentions.
