I like both Marv and Donald Byrd's versions. Marv puts his own jazzy flow to these songs and they sound so good. Most people don't even realize how deep Marv was musically. He was a griot and a prophet with a voice that could change your mind and your mood. I remember falling in love with "Where Are We Going" and pretty much everything by Donald Byrd and the Black Byrds when I was a teenager growing up down Saigon in South Philly. Listening to WDAS at night and WKDU would have you high off of music all weekend long. WKDU put me down with artist like Michael Franks, Flora Purim, Chick Correa, Alphonso Johnson, Michael Natada Walden, Gary Bartz, etc. when I was 15 years old. I many of you came up listening to these artist and more if you like these masterpieces being played here. Donald Byrd and Marvin Gaye gaves us some beautiful music that also enlightened our consciousness.

This goes to show that the music industry back in the day (and today) were and are just a bunch of hijackers of beautiful music and only understanding the bottom line. From the companies to the radio stations all that mattered was the buck. I'm a little pissed that I haven't heard this colabo before, especially since it is so beautiful. This greedy mindset would rather bury music rather than present it to the people in as many forums as possible. Even the other music forums today lack the depth and diversity of KZbin. I have heard dozens of unreleased, or musical extensions to songs that never made it out to the general public with an honest chance to be heard. Thanks for the posting!

Man this a casual walk back in time when people thirst for some good music.. Marvin Gaye vocally is in a class by himself.. I remember Donnie Simpson from the old Video Soul show on BET running around Lake Michigan while legend pro football player Lem Barney , a defensive safety or corner for Detroit Lions, running backyards and then all of sudden you hear this beautiful voice. Like something you never heard before or since.. You captured by the sound and you realize that’s its great Marvin Gaye.. And you as most people do when they hear something unique, there ears don’t lie. They stop and stare.. Remember that quote from the James Brown movie.. In other words we know its good because it excites and calms us at the time.. The struggles of life played out on notes from a page.. These beautiful creators of music reach deep off into the minds and soul .. I didn’t catch all that why don’t you play it again.. In other words shut and play it over.. But this time don’t talk all the way through the song to let me escape into a beautiful soft melody and lose myself in days gone past..LB lover of Old Skool June 2021…Rest in Peace Older Brothers Paul and Fatia , …

Never knew this existed! What else is in the can? Always loved this track but never knew Marvin Gaye did a version of this. Says a lot for his love of jazz and what Motown was holding him back from in order not to tarnish his "love man' image. but, in the end, both Marvin and Stevie broke the molds Motown made for them, to their credit and to the benefit of us all!
