This is a fantastic live DVD from Marvin Gaye recorded at the Montreux Casino on July 7 1980, as part of that year's 14th Montreux Jazz Festival.
Marvin Gaye is an American legend. He was signed to the fledgling Motown label in 1961 by label founder Berry Gordy and later that year he married Gordy's sister. He scored a total of 39 US Top 40 singles for the label including such classics as "Let's Get It On", "Ain't That Peculiar", "Inner City Blues", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "What's Going On" and of course "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", all of which are included on this DVD. Marvin Gaye died in 1984, shot by his father following an argument, and was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987.
With a running time of around 100 minutes, this DVD captures Marvin Gaye at the very height of his powers and combines outstanding music with a scintillating live performance.

Caramel Spice he also struggled with cocaine abuse and family dysfunction (but who doesn’t), so he wasn’t without flaws. But IMO, his flaws were ancillary to his legacy. Got a lot of "bad vibes" and comments from the brothers and sisters, till Marvin began to sing, and I sang along every word. Then all the folks around noticed I knew what is was about, then we all began to sing together. I wasn't going to miss the chance to see Marvin, and get in to Live. I had ah GREAT time. Marvin was Righteous, and as good as the recording. I'd go see him tomorrow, if it were possible.

Marvin's contributions to music, society, and our culture in general were enormous. This album stands as a testament to his artistry, talent and vision. As if the music and vocals werent enough to cement it as a brilliant album... the lyrical message is so profound, sublime and spiritual. I think it's the most important album ever from that standpoint. It resonates today and will continue to resonate. We need to get our act together as a species and stop the madness.
