Just a tip my friend, but never camp on a riverbed or near one. It can rain 100 miles away and come flooding you in seconds and you would never know. Awesome vid and keep up the good work
@JimYeats3 жыл бұрын
There are something like 13 river companies that take thousands upon thousands of people down the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon every year and they camp on the beach every night. You certainly wouldn’t want to sleep in a slot canyon or a wash susceptible to flash flooding, but with some normal common sense, checking the weather, and knowing what season you’re in, its as safe anything that’s fun to do.
@blissmadness92643 жыл бұрын
@@JimYeats I understand your perspective, but even if the weather seems nice to you in that area it does not mean it is in all the areas that connect to that river. Colorado River feeds from a very wide range and any of those areas can level out at any moment. It's common sense to never camp near a river or rover basin for this fact. I'm not sure what touring company you are speaking of because I am an AZ native and have been on that very river and the camps are never alongside the river. They are a good 50 feet away. I simply wanted him to be cautious and take this into hand any time he is near a river. Even if the current one he was at had a smaller statistic of flooding he should not get comfortable and do it with other rivers

@jayce_venom Жыл бұрын
Hi, I work with, breed and keep Rattlesnakes. I've worked with thousands of them. Snakes, especially rattlesnakes don't "chase" anyone, They're defensive animals about their territory and where they live and breed. Specifically the ones seen here are Speckled Rattlesnakes that retain fairly calm demeanors when left alone. You can be born somewhere all you want but that doesn't mean you're knowledgeable about the animals. They do strike when startled, just as any human can punch or even shoot someone when startled. They have a right to defend themselves and their homes. Quit fear mongering about animals that have a right to exist and be where they are naturally from.

@Brandy Sutherland correction....I was told about it by him in 2000, I had just moved there so I'm not sure when the actual incident happened but it was at Boysen reservoir. They told me about it while we were out there water-skiing ourselves. He made good money for that dive!
@Camoboy703 жыл бұрын
@Brandy Sutherland no problem, yeah I didn't find it online either but was told how much he was paid and that just led into other conversation. The story creeped me out, I mean imagine you're water-skiing and bam, out of nowhere not only did you hit something to take you down but then you're immediately attacked by it as well. That weighed heavily on my mind while I was at that very reservoir skiing and knee boarding! And these weren't the kinds of guys to tell stories to rattle your cage, they were paramedics and firefighters and life flight pilots who were talking mostly amongst themselves and I was connected by being the boyfriend of one. Dinner conversations were pretty interesting, to say the least.

Now I’ve got to buy some of them food packs, they actually looked good. I love how Mav is somewhat a minimalist, living life with very little and enjoying it. When I saw that rattlesnake I was thinking barbecue snake and Hat band with rattlers. Mav’s the outdoorsman.
@josephreed81763 жыл бұрын
Mav, would highly recommend a sawyer squeeze water filter system for backpacking. You don't need to lug too much water with you or be worried about running out especially if you're going somewhere with freshwater available (like any fishing backpack location you visit).
@briansimpkins9853 жыл бұрын
the thing is with grand canyon area and the colorado river is a lot of silt so even a purifier really cant help to get the silt out of the water and also clogs ur filter way quicker
@keithl21103 жыл бұрын
It's worth whatever it costs to not get Giardia infection or worse in nature alone. Even a life straw is like 20-25 bucks, now they sell a bag and hose that make the lifestraw a decent camp setup. Always have a water filtration system and purification tablets as a back up. Always have a back up. When enjoying the outdoors luck favors the prepared, things break or get lost, 3 is 2, 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

@josephreed81763 жыл бұрын
@@jmac732 the sawyer filter can gravity filter with a different bag then the one that comes with. Could also save Mav money from buying water at the store.

My brother, my best friend and I went on a 9 day hike on the Bruce Trail in southern Ontario and we all brought 2 2L smart water bottles and we had a sawyer squeeze and a sawyer mini. they were pretty good for the 9 days, granted, southern Ontario has some pretty clean water in the streams and lakes.
